Bethesda have decided to officially reveal Fallout 4 before E3 for some reason! Confirmed to be on Xbox One / Playstation 4 / PC which means no cross-gen!

choppy boxart images yay

I believe this is also the first screenshot of the game.

Spoiler:

I played Fallout 3 but I never really got INTO it like I did with Elder Scrolls. Will definitely give this one a try though. I'm excited to see what Bethesda can do.

What are your thoughts? Excited for more Fallout?

I might get it.....whenever I get a next gen current gen system besides a WiiU. Liked my time with New Vegas so it's probably worth checking out 4. Where's it supposed to take place though?

Welp, looks like I need to sit down and play Fallout 3. Been wanting to do that for a while, actually.

I'm really loving the art style. So much nicer than the gray and brown with a green piss filter that they went with for FO3.

This is exciting. I hate the Elder Scrolls games, I've been waiting for a new Fallout since Skyrim came out 4 years ago. :3
New Vegas was not my favorite, though.. So it's exciting to see it taking place up north, maybe it's headed in a slightly different direction. Or at least there will be less desert to walk around and more scattered cities to fill the void when you're walking for 3 hours, lol.

The trailer showed off Boston, Mass, is where I got that from. Which may or may not be related to a lengthy side quest from F3. :)

Screenshot looks like it's pulled from the trailer. While I kind of doubt it's the actual artstyle for the game, and not just a pretty trailer... it would be an interesting change if it is. :v

And if this Polish retailer is anything to go off of, it will release this year, the general consensus is around September/October.

The prices are weird, though. 254 zl is like $68 USD, and 174 zl would be like $47.
Amazon has it listed for the usual $60 price tags, with the usual place-holder date of December 2015.

Of course then you have to pay for DLC and mods for it, anyway.

It's official.

I need to actually get around to playing a fallout game. ;~;
You could always wait for 4. Like Elder Scrolls, Fallout is mostly anthological, and the gameplay tends to differ between entries (save mostly for Oblivion to Skyrim and Fallout 3 to New Vegas), so you're pretty good to jump in anywhere without being locked out of the others, and similarly playing one is never dependent on having played its prequel entries.

I'm torn between being excited because Fallout 4 and being disappointed because it's only for next gen consoles and PC, meaning it's going to be awhile before I play it unless my PC is able to run it by some miracle.

Eh, I'll go with both.

And apparently the leaks were real and the protagonist will actually speak in this one. Not sure how I feel about that just yet.

If that's true, then I at least hope this comes with the standard set of 3-5 voice options, per gender, to choose from.

But I'm torn on how to feel about that, too.
Can't help but worry that it would lead to extremely brief dialogue options for the PC, cutting out all of the snarky responses I so love.
On the other hand, it is Bethesda, and practically all of their NPCs have ridiculously long, fully-voiced dialogue trees.. especially the companions. So maybe there is hope? :v

It could just be for actions. There are a number of games where you're give a voice to do things, but you don't actually use it for speech options and the like so much as they're used in conjunction with commands, non-conversational social interaction (a good example of this would be the Neverwinter Nights series). It wouldn't be surprising if that was the case here.

They probably revealed it so they can show more at E3. Good marketing that. Will be sure to draw people to their booth.

As for the game, it doesn't look as pretty as Skyrim, but that's likely because it's not as stylized. Graphically it is solid, and getting to see before the bombing again (I'm counting the simulation in F3) will be pretty sweet. I just have to wonder if that's just going to be a cut scene or an intro level or what. I can't imagine time travel being a factor. Well, I could see Time Travel being the equivalent of Mothership Zeta, as in DLC to be released way down the line.

That is a good point, and was my first thought. But I immediately ruled it out under the assumption they'd do it more like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, etc.

But I dunno how I'd feel about that, either, honestly. Then it could just feel kind of empty when the protag only has a specific voice half the time. I can imagine they'd be doing it to try to make the protag more "immersive," so I don't feel like they'd half-ass it?

Although if it is fully-voiced, I'd be completely on-board if the VA for either Moira in F3 or Veronica in New Vegas will be a voice option for the female protag. :v

Was Skyrim pretty?

Well, I think that, on an objective level, it's more a difference in direction. The idea with Skyrim was to make everything gray, with mystifying night skies and the occasional splash of color in forests and greener areas. More than anything, though, it was a mix of fantasy and real, RBG-limited culture so, in terms of mystifying beauty it could never match Oblivion or Morrowind, both of which were scenic and had basings in real-life cultures (moreso the former game than the latter), but where heavily fantasy oriented and were a lot more colorful and dynamic as a result.

With Fallout, though, it's just...well...life. A sci-fi take on our world that's mostly influenced by what's currently here, just warped by destruction, propaganda, a second attempt at life. I would say, in that sense (looking at what I've seen of this game specifically rather than others), this will likely be the better looking game, as it will no doubt be the more vivid of the titles and be a lot more dynamic in terms of what the environment contains and how interesting the "culture" makes settlements, sewers, stations, and various other areas look due to the nature of the Wasteland.

But that's just speculation. I'm not really sure how this Wasteland will stack up to past ones. Guess that'll be for E3, then.

So happy rn

You just get me.

I love, love Fallout and everything it stands for. It's up there with Pokemon for me. And this game ...

Boston and finally exploring the long hinted-at Commonwealth? Talking character? Return of Dogmeat? PRE-WAR GAMEPLAY?

I'm actually crying. Bethesda and associates have proven that they're becoming very competent storytellers ever since New Vegas and its exemplary DLCs. The game, from what I can tell over the pre-rendered stuff, is gorgeous. I'm going to save up all the money I can to buy myself one of those fancy new gen consoles just to purchase this game. Either that or I'm abusing Christmas this year.

LIKE DID YOU SEE THOSE FERAL GHOULS
I CANT WAIT TO ACTUALLY BE TERRIFIED OF THEM

I mean I'm totally 100% okay with a full-voice character, which does look likely after researching the callback materials, but I would find myself disappointed if they didn't do it for every line. You can't really bring only half a birthday cake if you tease it in the party invitation, if you get what I'm saying.

Neat! Anyone planning to get it for PC, you can already pre-order it cheaper. :)

http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/action/fallout-4/

Use the code 23PERC-ENTOFF-48HOUR during check-out.

You can snag it for $46.20.
I have never played a Fallout game before. Should I start here? :P
Start at Fallout 1 and play every main game except 3.

I seriously hope this one doesn't get plagued with the muk writing Bethesda used for Fallout 3. Unless they get Chris Avellone and other former Black Isle/Interplay employees writing the story, I might pass this up.

Bethesda and associates have proven that they're becoming very competent storytellers ever since New Vegas and its exemplary DLCs.

Bethesda never wrote the stories for New Vegas or it's DLC; that was Obsidian Entertainment, Chris Avellone, JE Sawyer, and other former Interplay/Black Isle employees....you know...the one's who created Fallout 1 and 2 and therefore knew what they hell they were doing.

Don't listen to him, Fallout 3 is worth playing. It may not be the best written, but it has solid gameplay if you like first person RPG games. Plus the ending mission is a blast. And the DLC gives you a nice variety of locations to explore.

*cough cough Bethesda and ASSOCIATES cough said for a reason cough*

Jokes aside, yes, I did know that and I was simplifying them all under Bethesda, because, well, that's the big brand name Fallout's signed with. And I'm gonna agree with you on Fallout 3. Although it's intriguing and has great gameplay, its lack of competent writing shows. I've been currently replaying it and finally getting around to completing some DLCs properly, and they just don't stick in head as well (sans Point Lookout - I've still got a crush on Desmond.) In fact, I don't remember much from Broken Steel besides the beautiful mess that was Scribe Bigsley and the ending where I took out the Citadel for being so bloody boring - honestly, The Mojave's Brotherhood of Steel had 3000% more personality than the Capital's and they barely had one tenth the screen time.

All in all, I really hope they still have Obsidian hands on this. I don't see why they wouldn't.

Eh, I'm no Fallout purist but I thought 3 stunk hard. Fallout: New Vegas was also similarly flawed but I still managed to adore it because its excellent writing made the world and characters come alive.

I'll probably buy it if Obsidian is working with them, otherwise I'll just pick it up off of Craigslist for $20 a few months after they patch all the big bugs out.
