Any strong viewpoint I have usually stems from self-interest or self-experience. That's all I'll say.

Other subjects are more grey, both because history provides fair evidence for both sides and because these are often moral issues; fact and reason alone do not win the race.

90% of the time, extremists come off as loons that hurt their own position (eg. Tumblr), but the other 10% of the time I view them as necessary or correct. Safe, boilerplate discussion is as harmful as it is underwhelming.

I'm gray on most subject matters, but I do have my beliefs that I stand by. I come from a very religious family, and after seeing what having a strong, unmovable position on a subject can do to relationships, I don't want to be anything like that. I try my best to remain neutral and look at things from an unbiased perspective. I can't obviously do that, considering I'm human, but I'm always open to new viewpoints and can expand upon thoughts easily, even if they don't agree with mine.

The most dangerous parts of extremists are their closed minds. There's absolutely no point in arguing with them because they won't budge or listen to you on anything. It tears relationships apart, so I avoid it.
