As someone with naturally wonderful skin, I have little need for any time consuming or expensive skincare processes. I just do the minimum to ensure that my glow continues to the next day - washing my face with cold water, not taking warm/hot showers if I can help it, a little dab of whatever cream I find in my mother's cabinet and voila! Easy, breezy Covergirl.

But even my powers will fade some day, maybe a lot quicker than I think. So I'm curious, what do you do to take care of your skin? What secrets can I and others in this thread possibly leech from you?

> Wash your face thoroughly
> Apply creams but not too much.
> Eat healthy is a big one as well.
> Try not to touch your face 24/7 (weird) but all the dirt on your hands from touching everything you're rubbing into your face
> Was your bedding frequently. Especially your pillows & pillow cases. Imagine all the sweat that accumulates as you sleep. Unless of course you shower before bed but nonetheless - hygiene!
> Natural sunlight also helps to give your skin colour and some oomph. Not to mention vitamin D.

This is coming from someone whose skin isn't perfect but isn't dreadful either.

This is something I always have to remind myself before I sleep - the natural oils of your hands react with those on your face and while I am yet to experience acne, I am told that this is a big contributor to acne and blemishes in general.
I have really dry skin, especially in the colder months where it isn't as humid outside. I have to use really high quality shampoos to make sure my scalp doesn't flake. I also have to apply lotion quite often because my skin becomes really itchy out of the blue. I have never really had much acne in my life so I am thankful for that but yeah my skin isn't as great as I would like it to be.

I use a daily facial cleanser that removes dead skin cells and blackheads during showers. Also, when my skin is dry, I apply moisturising lotion as necessary. Enough water consumption is also beneficial, although I need to improve on that.

I have a horrible habit of touching my face, especially when I'm on the computer. Not only that, I inherited bad acne genes. It seems like I'm just doomed to have acne for the rest of my life.

It's not nearly as bad as it was when I was a teenager, but I still get zits every so often, no matter what I do. I wash my face twice a day- mornings are for apricot scrub, and evenings I use Dove soap. I drink water like no one's business- especially at work since you get dehydrated quickly when you do what I do. I eat pretty well, avoiding most junk food. The worst thing I ingest is cider. Lots and lots of cider. My skin doesn't get too dry, but I use a natural sesame seed lotion for it........... It's going to be a forever problem :(

i've never had acne before. every so often i get little blemishes here and there. i use to get facials every couple of months, but i stopped because they're so expensive and my face isn't that bad. all i do is when i take a shower, i wash my face with ivory soap. then at night i just put water on my face and then put Clearasil on. pretty simple.

I have an acne problem, and I've been having this problem since my teen years (I have no idea you'll still get acne as an adult). Now I look hideous with my acne scars, which I wish were gone. I've been using clindamycin phosphate and benzoyl peroxide gel, finacea, and retin-a micro to remove my acne and, in vain, my acne scars.

Try using honey, apple cider vinegar, or aloe vera for your scars. I've always found that natural remedies work much better(and faster) than chemicals.

I've been taking better care of myself these days, and found that my skin has improved greatly. Since I wash my face daily and hands a lot, the amount of acne I get has dropped. The fact that I wash my pillowcase often and drink more water than sugary drinks has helped too.

The only skin problem I have is keratosis pilaris, and I have that all over my body. Some days, I'm just too tired from everything else to moisturize with special lotions...and I pay for it because I'm so itchy all the time.

I'm in the same situation as TF in that I have very greasy hair, that is somehow feeling very thin because of all the countless times I've had to wash it. For skin, I mainly have to use some body lotion so that I smell nice.

Acne however is something I've never had an issue with though. I do get pimples a lot but I've never had acne.

it's probably the seahorse tears i indulge in every morning.

i didn't really think about it until now but i don't really get acne that often and when i do it's not in abundance. i have fairly dry skin that tans / sunburns easily so i just wash my face with a gentle moisturizing face wash then moisturize with hope in a jar.

i also exfoliate every few weeks with either olive oil and sugar or coffee, honey, and olive oil i believe. it's also fantastic on lips just make sure you warm up your skin first with a wet hot towel.

I have oily skin and haven't particularly used anything for that specific reason. But I use a face scrub about once or twice a week generally. Trust me after I use my face scrub my skin feels free as psyduck on my face! It's called Equate Beauty Refreshing Apricot Scrub, 6 oz. Really cheap and makes my skin feel amazing. x

For acne prone people, I would suggest not getting wrapped up in the western hysteria of extensive and frequent face washing and "sanitizing" products. Those products often lead to dirtier skin paradoxically. Essentially sanitation products often kill bacteria indiscriminately, and p.acnes and other harmful bacteria may be able to infiltrate open pores with less competition of other bacteria.

"Skin flora is usually non-pathogenic, and either commensal (are not harmful to their host) or mutualistic (offer a benefit). The benefits bacteria can offer include preventing transient pathogenic organisms from colonizing the skin surface, either by competing for nutrients, secreting chemicals against them, or stimulating the skin's immune system."

Killing bacteria may allow for p.acne to fend off competing bacteria that do not stimulate oil production. Further, research suggests that p.acnes can stimulate the immune system as a means of increasing oil production and thus causes a never ending nutrient supply. Other bacteria we wash off do the job we try to, and we end up being more dirty and possibly more prone to acne, follicultitis, inflammation, rosacea, and body odor.

P. Acne are also able to build immunities to soaps and even powerful antibiotics, which leaves them the opportunity to infiltrate follicles with little competition. Thus, why many describe proactiv as slavery...once you start, you cannot stop without leaving the skin vulnerable to harmful bacteria and similarly, antibiotics incur a systemic imbalance of bacteria which may allow acne to exist long-term and weaken immune health, this encourages user to increase dosages and extend treatment without actually addressing the issue long-term.

I shower infrequently with only cold water and don't use sanitation products (I'd prefer using non-fluoride "enhanced" water). I do use fragrances, since those do not kill good bacteria, and I apply them to clothes and underarms, but never anywhere else on my skin directly.

I use to be a slave to exfoliants, scrubs, washes, antibiotics, moisturizers, but not anymore, and my face for the first time had become less red, dull, and erratic being oily and dry. I used to have really bad cystic acne and redness, but now I have a pimple here or there and basically have no "routine".

Also, I notice I used to shower multiple times a day and wash my face, but regardless, I would have to increase use of cologne/deoderant and my face was not "clean" insofar as the bacterial imbalance. Not to mention, hot showers increase oil production, the main nutrient source of p.acne.

I read this while touching my face :( possibly one of the reasons my face has gotten all acne-y again recently. :/
