Specifically, does it matter when it comes to making judgements on another person - for whatever reason?

Personally, I know a person's name doesn't define them and I shouldn't act according to how I feel about their name. But their are some names I really, really don't like.

On the contrary, there are some names I hear that instantly make me like and/or appreciate a person more.

All in all, the objective side of me thinks this is dumb. But the instinctual part takes over.

How aboot you guys? ^^

I'm not in a position where I can allow myself to judge other people by their name.

I've never really passed negative judgment on anyone because of their name, but I have noticed a lot of my crushes have had the same name, if that counts for anything

I've heard it is a real issue though, employers place a lot of weight on the names of their applicants, which is kinda sad.

I would never pick on someone just because of their name. It'd be so wrong.

I never base someone on their name, you could literally be named "Mukbucket", and although I may laugh trying to call you that, it won't change how I look at you, and I won't judge you until I get to know you.

There are some names I hate (I'm sorry if some of you are named things like this, I won't judge you on it I promise and I don't mean any harm, I just hate these names.)
Guys:
Spoiler:

Billy
Robby
Richard
Jeet (Yes I know someone who is named Jeet, pretty cool guy but I hate his name)
Damien

Garry

And then some names I love
Spoiler:

Chris (This is actually my first name, but I always go by my middle name)
Jacob
Luke

Josh

Makayla (Definitely my favorite name for a girl. It just has some ring to it that I like)

I would never make judgements based on their names alone. I won't lie in the fact that there are some names where I've met several people of the same name with generally the same personality that I don't like, but I wouldn't instantly dislike someone just because they have said name. Because each one of us is different so it would just be unfair.

I have a list like this too I keep loosely in my head - mostly of names I do like. Generally it just means I warm up to a person quicker.

Thankfully I can say I don't outright hate or dislike a person because of their name alone. But I would say instinctively I feel less attached to a person if they have a name I just don't like?

I feel like I may have not gotten my perspective out in the right manner. And the example I used was a hyperbole (other things had transpired) so I apologize for sending out the wrong vibes.

It may be more appropriate for me to have said how quickly I'd grow attached or by okay with detaching myself from said person? Even though that is indeed still pretty shallow. x_x

The only way I could think twice about a name is if it's really weird. I mean, the parents who named their kids Orangejello and Lemonjello have to be insane.

Edit:
I just remembered some poor fellow named Mukhead (pronounced Shi-heed).

I've thought about names when they sound really weird. It would never cause me to cast judgment of a person though.

I don't think I've ever taken anybody's name into consideration when I'm judging them. The most I'll be is maybe like "oh, that's a cool name" if it happens to be a name I think is neat, but there's really no inverse thing for me, there aren't any names I hate in any sort of capacity.

I dunno, I just never really gave much thought to this. :P I'm far more interested in how a person is than how they refer to themselves.

:( My full name is one of those listed under the girl names there. Sadface. Although to be entirely fair, I'm not the fondest of that name either lol. There's a reason I don't use it too much.

okay obviously you wouldn't consciously judge a person by their name, but I feel like someone's name can sorta influence your perception of someone in a very subtle way. names carry moods, and moods affect perception. hell it's why certain book/movie characters are named the way they are.

All of you need to stop lying lmaoooooo

Like... yeah? Many names have preconceived notions attached to them, let alone ones that you have developed through your own journey in the world. That's not to say one has to or will take part in any judgement, but the innate thought is certainly present at least initially.

I'm a pretty horrible person. I'm very shallow, very critical, and very cynical when I meet new people. I cover it up with humor and being silly, and because of that I'm fairly well-known around my college and apartment complex. I don't actively try to be a mukty person - it's just comes naturally.

My relations with a person include a number of factors, not just their name. That said, their name isn't really all that important, unless it just doesn't "fit" right. Sometimes I meet a new person and I don't like their name because it doesn't "fit" their physical appearance or personality, but that doesn't really affect my judgement of them. More than anything I judge someone based on whether their looks and personality match up.

Sure, there are names that I prefer and names that I don't prefer, but I'm already fairly judgmental. I believe judging someone by their name is pointless.
