Do you prefer to grind, or do you take your chances at going through the game underleveled?

I have no patience for grinding during the main game, so I always take my chances and go underleveled ;)
What are you so afraid of?

I might answer some past questions later, since there have been a lot of interesting ones that I could give answers to, but I guess i'll make do with this one.

Do you prefer to grind, or do you take your chances at going through the game underleveled?

Often I won't waste too much time grinding, because I like being able to strategize when i'm lower leveled. Although there will be times where i'll have to spend time grinding, most notably before the Elite Four. I remember in one challenge in Black I did, the Elite Four was the first part of the game where I found myself grinding seriously. And with the EXP mechanics in Generation VI, it becomes a lot easier to gain more all at once, so grinding isn't as necessary. There are times in B2W2 Challenge Mode where i've gone in against Drayden and/or Marlon (who the lowest levels of are 50 and 53 respectively) with teams around Level 44-47.

But in Nuzlockes, I will obviously have to do some grinding to make sure i'm on top of opponents and won't get my team smashed.

Absolutely! I like being overleveled and I want to be in a position to destroy the gym. For me over time, I've deemphasized the challenge gyms are meant to give and focused more on the overall adventure. That said, I am still often challenged, so the game is that much more fun!

I don't like to take any chances, so I grind up a lot.

Grinding or take a chance?

I suppose more of the former than the latter? To elaborate, I don't bother researching gym levels or anything, but I do try to spend some time training my Pokemon. Usually, I end up being about 3-5 levels higher than the gym or rival without spending too much time grinding.

Most of the time in action RPGs, I'll take my chances at doing everything underleveled. But in a turn-based RPG like Pokemon, I grind as much as I need to, and then some :P

Here's one that I thought of because I realized the ungodly amount of time I spend on EV training @[email protected]

Since the EV training mechanic has been a lot easier, I say it's less than 1 hour per train. But that depends if I'm focused or not! XD

I never once tried it. Once I got a 3DS I would put this in mind in doing it.

A total of 0 hours and 0 minutes per game, unless I want a specific stone through Super Training.

It depends. It used to take me several days of intermittent gameplay (or a long afternoon) to EV train something, but now, it's a lot faster. If I'm doing it at the start of the game (e.g., with newly hatched eggs that I don't want to EV train by traditional methods), it probably takes an hour or two per Pokemon. If training in the wild, with items and such, it's faster than that. I haven't EV trained anything in a few months though; I have a backlog to get to, but I don't know when I'll get around to those.

When it comes to Generation VI, I tend to get it done quickly with horde battling and Sweet Scent, unless I can't because i'm doing a -Locke. But in my main White 2, i'll use the Power items and kill time sometimes. So yeah, varied amounts.

How much time do you spend on EV training?

Combined with breeding, EV training accounts for about 8/10ths of the playtime I spend with the Gen 6 games. There's always a rewarding feel in successfully hatching a perfect IV'd Pokemon with the Egg moves you want, then training it to prepare for online. Ever since my first time breeding and training a full-out competitive Pokemon, I've always wanted to add more to my arsenal to create more options for team setups.

I EV train soooo much. At least I used to, now I'm focusing more in my games on doing things I don't traditionally do, like trying to complete the Pokedex.

So, here's an interesting semi-competitive related question, but one that I find myself asking all the time @[email protected]

Psychic's pretty great, but Psyshock's always a nice surprise/last resort for a specially bulky mon.

I love Psyshock because of its unique trait, but I do like Psychic a bit more cause it's just so damn powerful :P

One world, now and forever - Best friends, loyal and true - One dream, put side by side - There's nothing we can't do
One hand, helping the other - Each heart, beating as one - We live, always together - Sharing the same bright sun

Psyshock or Psychic?
Well Psyshock would treat special attacks as were Physical means it would harm special defence wall and it have good attack power too. While Psychic is just your typical flash-cannon lowering sp def which hits really hard. I can't say which to choose.

Psyshock for me! My Espeon and Alakazam are gonna be stuck with Blissey if they don't have a move that can hit the pink Pokemon. XD

Psyshock or Psychic?

Both are great moves, but I still like Psychic's overall power and reliability more given it's the cream of the crop Psychic-type attack. Psyshock does have the cooler animation though.

I really like Psychic! Good ol TM-29. I used to pretty much use this move as often as I could back in the day. Today, it's still a treat to use and brings back a lot of fond memories playing as a kid. Good times!

Just about none honestly :P

Psyshock or Psychic?

Psychic, call me old-fashioned :P
Whaa no EV training??

I actually tend to go with Psyshock, in competitive situations. Really helps in Calm Mind wars, which tend to happen quite a bit. In regular gameplay though I normally go for Psychic, because it's ever so slightly stronger.

One thing about Psychic is, it was easily one of the best attacks in the game back in 1st gen and arguably 2nd gen too. So for those of us who were players during that time, using it is pretty satisfying, I have to admit ^^ (especially since they brought back the classic sound effect in 6th gen)
