So I was reading this review of a certain Ultrabook, and these graphs made me stop for a moment...

I have to say, I'm very impressed with the current-generation ultra-portable laptops, especially the Ultrabooks. They seem to pretty much run for the entire day practically... We really have come a long way with regard to making effective use of limited battery capacity.

I really want to get my hands on such a laptop at this point. I'd probably end up getting some other ultraportable in the end, but it's reassuring to know that you can get a lot of things without losing anything today.

I certainly wish I had a laptop that contained a battery life of 15 hours, that's for sure. Usually, it's discharge for 2-3 hours then charge for 1-2 hours on my laptop.

You should check out the battery life on some of the newer chromebooks.
I don't know about the latest models but my HP chromebook 14 has gotten me ~8-9 hours per full charge.
Here's a recent review list: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2413071,00.asp
Asus has theirs 11 hours 15 minutes for under $300. I want <3 Asus..

Mmm hmm!

I think I just want to have a convertible Windows tablet-laptop so that I get to do everything I'm used to.

If you want the best battery power, get a Atom or a Core m laptop. The laptop will be less powerful (and probably cheaper if you go with a Atom) , but it wont need to be charged as much.

I own a ultrabook, and i find that using it for Word or other low intensive tasks it can last for ages, but whenever I do web browsing or gaming it goes down for a few hours. Hopefully web browsers will slowly become more optimized as a few hours per charge is too low, a good several hours would be ideal.

The probably reason web browsing consumes so much is that it is actively sending data over the wireless, which requires a fair bit of power to actually transmit data, iirc (my understanding of the way it works may be well off the mark though since I'm going off of stuff that I'm pretty sure is what I was taught 6-ish years ago).

If you really want battery life, haven't external battery packs been available for decades already? Sure, they're heavy (muh First World problems!), but if you've got a laptop on for long periods I'd think it unlikely that you're really moving it all that much.
Not just external battery packs, but the extra capacity batteries that take the place of the main battery, too. And those don't require lugging around the external battery.

Huh. Why don't those come as standard then? Expensive?
An extra way to earn money and they often protrude out from the base footprint of the case on the models that have them as an option.
