I've been fooling around with hacking recently in FireRed.
I wanted to replace the sprite for the boy Trainer at the beginning of the game, when ol' Oak asks your gender.
So, I replaced the sprite, that went extremely well, looks awesome. However, now I need to change the palette.
So, I drop on by unLZ and copy/paste the palette offset into APE, click "compressed palette", go back and forth, replace (even though it still tells me it's dangerous...) and nothing changes. The game doesn't crash, just, the palette didn't change.
What am I doing wrong? Can someone give me the palette offset for this boy/girl gender option? Am I just screwing up big time?
Please, help. I feel like I'm just making a small mistake. How can I edit this stinking palette? I have a strange feeling this problem is a bit larger than I had previously expected...
I looked everywhere for a guide on how to change the trainer sprite in the gender selection, but all that came back were vague, hard to understand guides, so I played it by ear and did it my way.
Am I making sense? Does anyone want screenshots?

Discovered the problem. The trainer sprite in the gender selection shares a palette with the background- you need to use that palette, instead.
