Arx made a thread about this back in June, but since I've been playing a fair amount of mobile games in my spare time, I'm interested in knowing if anyone plays them now.
Mobile gaming has evolved over the past decade and a half. Ranging from small, simplistic games like Snake to full ports of AAA console titles, there are a wide variety of games to play on smartphones, tablets, etc.

What is your opinion of mobile games? Do you play them? Why/why not? What are some of your favorites?

Since Shuffle got mobile version, I have 2 games now in addition to Love Live.
Other than that, nothing catches my attention (also because I don't have enough space on the phone...)

Recently, I've been playing a lot of Plague Inc. Super addictive game. Also, while I still had the app, I played a TON of Flappy Bird. I think my high score ended up being close to 1000. Too bad I lost it when I got a new phone.

I dislike mobile gaming. If I want to pick up and play a game at any time, I'll pick up a handheld; I'm really not into these mindless distractions like Angry Birds and all the rest of it. Mobile games don't cater properly to my tastes: I like complex JRPGs with in-depth battle systems, engaging storylines, and 50+ hours of gameplay, or at least something a little more complicated than just "tap the screen"...and when I'm not in the mood for that and I want a distraction, my handhelds have me covered with things like Theatrhythm. Mobile games, by and large, lack any kind of depth, and those that do have depth can't even come close to competing with console or handheld titles, so there is no appeal whatsoever for me. I wouldn't say it's necessarily a bad thing, but like all markets, it can't cater for everyone, and I happen to be in the group that is excluded. Which is fine. I have other things to amuse me.

I'll confess my opinion of mobile gaming is a little bitter though, because companies like Square Enix are producing games by the bucketload for mobiles and neglecting consoles, or they're not doing them to the high standard I would expect going by their past titles. Maybe if they did I'd start to consider buying them. People are also raising up mobile gaming as the end of the handheld era - Sony are using that excuse for the Vita's performance, ignoring the fact that any low opinions of the Vita are due to them refusing to make games for it; mobile gaming has NOTHING to do with it - in the same way as they're raising PC gaming up as the end of the console era, and I'm sick of hearing about it. It's bollocks; the markets are totally different, and the rise of one does not necessarily mean the fall of another, and the sales tell a different story entirely.

tl;dr mobile gaming just isn't for me, so I don't go near it. Simple as that. I also don't have a good enough phone (although I do have an iPod touch) and I don't really want to waste my money on one.

I.... don't really like mobile gaming that much.

Don't get me wrong though; there are a lot of good mobile games out there, and really complicated stuff like RPGs or platformers can be done well on a mobile system. My tablet's library is primarily games and emulators, and they're all really fun to play.

My main problem with mobile gaming is the overabundance of flash puzzle games like Candy Crush Saga that are shallow and filled to the brim with microtransactions. They're just big money funnels that eat your money up and then get rereleased later with a new coat of paint and minor gameplay changes. Sure they're fun but they're all just time eaters you play when you're bored. Mobile gaming is dominated by stuff like that, and it just irks the heck out of me. We can have nice games that have some depth and don't tempt you to spend a lot of money on them, so why can't we have that instead?

My phone's battery is **** and I can do little more than use it to communicate if I want it to last the day, but I've been addicted to some mobile games (I have to play them at home while it's plugged in though, so).

I've mentioned this one in previous threads but I still love it. Bag It is a puzzle game where you stack groceries into a paper bag - it's kind of like Tetris with watermelons and breadsticks, but the catch is that certain things are more crush-able than others (just like real life!) and you have to fit them all in bags without breaking the eggs or exploding the fizzy drinks.

I was also shamelessly addicted to "Kitty Powers' Matchmaker", which was something I saw a couple Youtubers play. It's really stupid but I spent many many hours hooking people up in that based on their hair and eye colour preferences, strange hobbies and horoscope signs.
