With Fallout 4 coming out in one week, I thought it would be nice to have a thread to discuss past experiences with the Fallout series, anticipation of the game, and thoughts while playing through it.

I've never played a Fallout game (funny because I'm the one who decided to make a thread for it), but I'm going to get the game for PC when it comes out. I bought 3 and New Vegas last week when they were on a Steam sale for $3.39 each, but I didn't have time to touch them. I'm looking forward to playing as it will be a whole new experience for me.

I'm concerned for what further disregard Bethesda will express for the lore established by 1 & 2, but it'll most probably be a fun game that I spend hundreds of hours playing regardless. That said, there has been very little in the way of gameplay footage released, so I'm sceptical about the game's actual scope. Apparently the PC will have a spouse and possible children, which seems rather odd to me, but I guess people liked Hearthfire enough, and I suppose it'll be done in a manner evocative of the pre-war idealism centred on the nuclear family.

There are two things I'd like to do with a Fallout character, so I'll probably do them both in my first one in this game: go with even stats (6 in everything with any spare points in luck) and be an antagonistic sociopath (there are some genuinely evil choices in Fallout 3, which I wouldn't normally consider since I'm a generally nice person and that carries over to my decisons in games).

I feel fairly abnormal for being absolutely indifferent to this...
Well, another AAA, good for fans, I guess?

Not sure what your intended meaning for this is, but there's no doubt in my mind that this game will at least meet the expectations that fans have for Bethesda games based on their reputation.

Doesn't the pre-war family

Spoiler:
Die right in the beginning of the game? They shouldn't really have much of an effect on the actual game after that. Although I'm guessing the kid will turn out to be alive near the end, or something.

I've only read that the story will start post-war and end pre-war, or something like that, however that's supposed to work. How do you know the family dies at the start? Also, you say 'the' kid, are you referring to a specific character?

Spoiler:
The E3 presentation demo'd making the parents (your character and spouse), then their baby is generated based on the parents you created (the kid Kameken was referring to), and it all sounded really exciting and important! But then the alarms sounded, so your new family ran to the vault together -- aaaaand then it fades to black. Only the PC comes out (200 years after the fact) and that was where you began your journey.

This all takes place in the first 5 minutes of the showcase. :)

Alright. Thanks. I avoided E3 stuff because of how E3 is these years.

So an abundance of glitches and general lack of polish? Yeah it's gonna be an AAA Bethesda game alright. :p

I would hope that after several glitch/bug filled games they'd try this time to release one with as few as possible.....not like I really expect that to happen though.

Spoiler: idk if this really needs to be spoilered but might as well just in case

How does your character survive for 200 years in the vault? People don't live that long. Mr. House lived to be 200+ years old, but he was only able to do so via some special machine and computer network and he couldn't really move (and looked like ****). Here it sounds like you character doesn't age a day after entering the vault, so how does it happen? Though I guess that may be part of the "events transpire" bit and would be explained in the game eventually.

..I'd like to preface by saying that I promise I'm really excited for the game, lol. I pre-ordered it the day after it was announced like back in June.

Spoiler: yeah, same, lol. I dunno if I need to, but just in case!
"Though I guess that may be part of the "events transpire" bit and would be explained in the game eventually."

"Eventually" sounds about right. From the sounds of things, that's gonna be the big 'plot' the game revolves around, figuring out how the hell you're alive 200 years later.. and for what purposes. Giving any explanation at all would have been a "spoiler," so it's not likely we'll find out what happened on Tuesday when it comes out.. perhaps if you marathon it, lol.

I've seen a lot of people get really angry about this on other forums. :v Many are suggesting it's cryogenics and -- it if it turns out that it is -- they're already ranting about the plot holes and inconsistencies. "If that kind of technology existed before the war, why didn't the Enclave use it to preserve their most important members" so on and so forth.

Others have suggested that you're secretly an android, since the primary location in Fallout 4 is where they were made and whatnot, according to Fallout 3's side quests on the matter.

...And I secretly hope that neither of these parties turn out to be right, but it's Bethesda so I'm leaning toward cryogenics and major plot holes.

I'm looking forward to it. Unless they completely screw it up, I'll still like it, however flawed it may be.

I have at least 200 hours in FONV, probably a lot more. It's one of my favorite games. Really like the House ending, it's what I usually go with. FO3 was fun as well, though I liked NV a lot better. I might try FO1/2 at some point, but the only CRPG I've ever actually gotten into is Planescape: Torment, which I'm playing right now (and I'm about 2/3 through it).

By the way, if you're thinking about replaying 3 or NV on PC, here are the bare minimum mods you'll want:
3: UPDATED Ultimate Fallout Patch (UPDATED is part of the name), Fellout
NV: Yukichigai Unofficial Patch, Fellout NV
VNs are superior to anime, don't @ me

What are your PC specs, by the way?

According to Game Debate I can't run it. I've got a GTX 745, 8 GB RAM, and an i3 processor.

I've got a GTX 750 Ti OC, i5 3570K and 8GB Ram and I run the game fine enough except in certain dungeons/inside houses where my FPS dips to about 35-40. 60+ in overworld though which is weird. You should be good.

What about me, though?

The big problem according to GD is the nVidia GTX 745. The processor and RAM seem okay.

I did my stream and it went pretty well. It's very interesting and I'm not sure how much I'm into it so far, but it's still early so I don't want to make a judgment about it yet.

Small thing, but it's a nice little detail... Codsworth calls me Ms Thompson by voice. (◡‿◡✿)
That is, surely enough Todd said they'd recorded many common names for him/it to say, but I'm rather impressed that they were prepared to pick up on people giving their characters surnames too.

I have to agree, it was pretty awesome to be called Alex by voice.
