Help me plan my Christmas dinner!

Christmas is on the way, and I'm the chef. x3

I was going to plan the menu myself but I thought, why not have some fun and ask the members of this lovely forum what they think would make a good Thanksgiving meal? You can give me a recipe you'd like me to try, come up with your own ideas or your own spin on it, and I'll make it! I'll take photos of the food and tell you what my family thought!

Here's what I'm looking to serve:

A meat: (Example: A roasted duck, a chicken)
A starchy side: (Example: Mashed Potatoes, Stuffing, Corn, Rice)
Another main entree: (Example: Prepared cheeseburgers)
An appetizer: (Example: Bread, buffalo wings, dumplings..)

Thank you so much to anyone who gives me suggestions!

Hmm... For one of the meats, maybe a nice spiral ham? Or if ham isn't an option, turkey also seems to be popular on Christmas with a lot of people I know. Macaroni also makes a nice side dish with most holiday meals, and candied yams (melted marshmallows on top optional) are a personal family favorite that goes with just about any meat. But whatever you decide to make for your big dinner, good luck, and I hope everything goes well!

I'd go with a seafood platter. It seems to be something I see a lot in big meals served as special occasions like this.

A meat: Baked ham.
A starchy side: I'd say cheesy mashed potatoes :)
Another main entree: I like Hika's seafood idea. Maybe some beer battered fried fish?
An appetizer: mozzarella sticks, because those are the first things that pop into my mind when I think of an appetizer
A vegetable:
baked zucchini
A dessert: peach cobbler
A dessert: bread pudding (never made it myself before, but it's good stuff :)

Maybe I'll think of some more later on...

A meat: Roast a whole ham, chicken or turkey. Inject it with cajun sauce (easy to find in grocery stores). Cook for 4 hours at 325 degrees F.
A starchy side: You could do stuffing, just don't do it the Thanksgiving way. It can be on the side. Mashed Potatoes could also work as well.
Another main entree: Roast beef is a great option. Just remember that this takes longer than ham, chicken, or turkey. It needs to be well marinated with whatever marinade you want to add in (orange juice, wine are best choices), and cooked at 200 degrees F for 5 hours (6-7 hours if you want it well done).
An appetizer: Salad. Garden salad is perfect if you are looking to add greens.
An appetizer: You could also do croissants. I recommend either making from scratch, or Pillsbury.

meat: I always just do a turkey. Coat the inside and outside with butter, stuff it with onions, garlic and celery, season with salt & pepper inside and out, cover the top in strips of bacon and coat the bottom of the pan in chicken stock, basting it ever 30 mins or so.

A starchy side: I'd do potatoes, because everyone eats potatoes. Garlic and parm cheese with gravy for savory or sweet potato with cinnamon sugar, marshmallows and pecans for sweet. Au Gratin potatoes are easy too.

Another main entree: Ham. It's not expensive and can easily be cooked along side the turkey without a lot of fuss, plus like with turkey, you can use the left overs easily for eggs benedict the next morning.

An appetizer: Rolls.

An appetizer: Pinwheel sandwiches.

Another side dish: My grandmother and aunts always did cornbread stuffing. Rather then bread crumbs, you use crumbled cornbread, and onion, garlic, celery, but parsley and bell pepper are sautéed with seasoned ground meat and all of it is mixed with chicken stock. An alternative to regular turkey stuffing.

Another side dish: Baked mac n cheese, if kids are coming and they're picky, they'll prob eat at least this.

Another side dish: If you have The time and access to fresh seafood, lump crab cakes with garlic butter cream sauce are easy. Broccoli & cauliflower with holiday sauce.

A vegetable: Greenbean casserole is classic, but oven roasted seasonal veggies like potatoes, yams, squashes, zucchini or carrots coated in olive oil and sea salt are great too.

A dessert: I have really great turtle cheese cake and lemon pie recipes ;d

Cheers~

I really appreciate all of your responses so far, thank you. ^^

I see a lot of people picked a ham roast for the meat entree! I'm keeping it in mind, although we actually had a brown sugar glazed ham this thanksgiving. :P The marinated roast beef idea sounds wonderful too. Chase I had to google Turducken and at first I was terrified, but at second thought it looks like it could be really good! We will probably do rolls or croissants as one of the appetizers. Mozzarella sticks are amazing. *_* Pinwheel sandwiches sounds really interesting too. Smoked salmon canapés sounds like a delicious snack. I wouldn't serve it in the meal, but as a little snack to munch on beforehand. We will very likely do a salad too.

I really liked Hikamaru's idea of a seafood platter since I love seafood! So to those who suggested shrimp, there you go. :P Hoping I can get in some calamari and even some lobster too. If I can arrange that I will serve it with a cocktail sauce. :D For the starch I'm going to have to go with the mashed potato idea since it was so highly favored. Many of you picked it, and some of you suggested making it cheesy. Lucid's idea of cheesy garlic mashed potatoes sounds wonderful. Cornbread stuffing also sounds interesting.

Chiptune and Lucid we usually make macaroni and cheese with candied yams for thanksgiving, and it's so delicious and well received that I'm going to make it for at least one of my Christmas parties this year. The crabcakes idea sounds delish, but I'm probably going to have to stick to the seafood platter as the seafood dish. For the vegetable I like the baked zuchini and green bean casserole ideas the most, but every idea works :)

For dessert a pecan pie sounds lovely, as does pretty much everything else you guys came up with except for the oil and the poisoned ice cream. I love my family dearly and do not wish to kill them, sorry! :s Also Chase I actually do make gingerbread cookies every Christmas as a snack for people to munch on before the meal. :P For the desserts I was thinking something cold that you would serve with Ice Cream.

Also if I'm forgetting anyone's suggestions I'm sorry. It doesn't mean I don't like the idea, but I have a lot to choose from and can't make everything! Also to Meem, while I like your ideas I don't think many of my guests will since they don't want to die, so I had to have to skip all of your suggestions. Hope that's ok!

A meat: baked scallop casserole
A starchy side: garlic mashed potatoes
Another main entree: linguini and clam sauce/or if u don't want to go too fishy regular pasta
An appetizer: nice fluffy rolls, perhaps some olive oil to dip them in/crackers and spreads
An appetizer: deviled eggs
Another side dish: rice pilaf or a risotto
Another side dish: roasted or sauteed mushrooms and onions
Another side dish: fried eggplant or cauliflower patties
A vegetable: roasted broccoli or roasted brussel sprouts
A dessert: cheesecake
A dessert: brownies or cookies are always a favorite and satisfy the chocolate lovers

my family has this tradition of making seven different kinds of fish and no meat... could be an interesting spin if you want to try something different. Not saying you have to make seven kinds of fish, more like if you made one lol.
