What are some of the character traits that make you go "holy **** I love this character so much because [insert character trait] makes them so likable for me!" for any character in animanga? It could be "unyielding willpower" like a shounen protagonist or the "genki girl" attitude of some super-genki chick. Or the said character having "balls/boobs of steel". Anything goes, really! So, name away, fellow animanga fans! :D

Well, character who have "sweet voices" also count as a character trait at least in the animated form I guess? So that makes "She has HanaKana voice" a valid post. There you go, Satoshi. Made it easier. I mean, it isn't quite valid but...ehh, can slide.

I'll be unfair and say that the trait I like is "well-written". Surprisingly or not, I'm not really a fan of archetypes inherently. I mean, I'm fine with them, but if a character is an archetype, I'll care a lot more about how that archetype is executed rather than the archetype itself, because I'm a much bigger fan of when a writer creates a character that is an archetype but is also distinguishable and enjoyable than when they create a character that's an archetype and...well, that's it. Which happens a lot; anime fans- whales, in particular- eat pure archetypal characters up.

But I think that's really it. There are traits that I find enjoyable and will like a character for more, but I don't think there are any traits that will make me love a character right off the back. All I need is a good execution and good writing. Good design helps, as does good English voice acting. I'm certainly attracted to characters that are well designed and while I don't think I could love them straight off because of it- well, maybe I could. It's certainly give 'em a boost in my eyes. And as for the English voice acting...well, this kinda goes with the whole "Hanakana" deal. Laura Bailey's my Hanakana, so when a character is voiced by her, I'm gonna give 'em a chance. And this doesn't always make the characters better, but if the character gives a good or fun performance or just has a colorful personality as a result of their VA, even the dullest of characters can be made fun as a result. Only reason I say "English" is because I speak the language and know exactly what they're saying- the color of the vernacular isn't a result of some guy's interpretation but is 1:1 with what's happening on screen. If I knew Japanese and could appreciate the word choice and the delivery of said choices, I'd include that, too.

Long hair. Looking at you Zelos, Yuri, and Zaveid. I've got my eye on you.

Also really sassy characters. I love them. And apparently I have an affinity for silent protagonists. I swear I don't plan this, but most of my favorite characters in gaming are silent. Maybe I have a hidden agenda. I don't know. :)

1) Female character being a perfect mixture of being cute, adorable, and HRRRGGGGable (A term i use to connote a character that's so loveable, i'd really want to hug her RL) + badass, so badass that when she gets serious, its serious. Blood C's Saya is already one nice example of such, in my opinion at least. For some reason, she has that really perfect mixture.

2) For male and certain female characters, basically when they remind me of 80s-90s Action Movie heroes who don't give a Rattata about their enemies while being cool enough to even be "Thug life" without being a thug. Kenshiro of Hokuto no Ken (of course, the quintessential manly man up to this day), Riki of Riki-Oh, ALL of the Jojos (maybe Joylene can count as manly even though she's not a male otherwise), Jubei of Ninja Scroll (as many have described him, he is Bruce Campbell in anime form), the 3-man band of Samurai Champloo, Lt. Kusanagi of Ghost in the Shell, there's many more to mention.

3) As always, the character's ability to carry a show. I've seen good, decent, even subpar anime from time to time, and what i've always looked for in anime were characters that helped give a reason to watch, get hooked, and still go through it.

4) The character somehow connects with my RL personality (applies to both male and females). Much like in any form of media, I often connect with characters that somehow reminds me of myself through their attitudes, points of view regarding certain matters, philosophies, motivations, and actions.

5) A female character that has a loli or very young looking face but with a bod. Kanako of Velvet Kiss.

Literally noticed how most of my favourite characters are baby faced, cute, small Bishonen boys.
Gon and Killua from HxH, Itona and Nagisa from Assassination Classroom, Haruichi from Diamond no Ace.

I do also love the underdog characters - especially in sports anime: Tachimukai from Inazuma Eleven, Sho from Whistle!, Mihashi from Oofuri.

And also the females pretending to be a male to and going undercover like Haruhi from Ouran, Hotaru from Aoharu x kikanjuu and Mizuki from HanaKimi.

So tired and can't think properly but, these are just the ones from the top of my head atm.

I'm a tsundere fan. I love when they trope is played in an interesting way and shows the true nature of a cute but mad girl.

It doesn't mean any "tsundere" will make me interested, it's just generally speaking.

I also like some kuudere traits, especially when they hit the moe trope in ridiculously cute ways (Flemmy from Rokka no Yuusha, as an example).
