The pen may be mightier than the sword, but I'll take both just to be sure.

As some of the only Gamecube games for the series, the two Orre games have many unique properties. They range from a mandatory 2-vs-2 battle grid, the introduction of shadow pokemon, purification, and the first "desert punk" setting in canon. Notably we also have the introduction of Cipher, an organization that you actually see in the act on numerous occasions, rather than the implied harm on other games of that generation and before. The grit was a refreshing change for me.

What about everyone else? Did you have a favorite character, or maybe a headcanon? What did you think of the AI in these games? Anything in particular you liked or disliked?

Fire away. ^^

While I have not played Pokemon Colosseum or Gale of Darkeness, I do find they are good games. As for favorite characters, I admit that I find Cipher Admin Lovrina to be quite attractive. If I had ever played either of these two games, I probably would have gone with Gale of Darkness.

I think Colo/XD were the best in the series, honestly. The villains weren't tongue in cheek kiddie evil, they really were evil. The setting was great and made good use of the Gamecubes limited graphics (I still think The Under was one of the best designed towns in the franchise, ever!). The protags were pretty good.

Really my only complaint is that Rui never got fully developed. After Agate Village she was just kinda there until the final cutscene. I think the 2 on 2 battle system could have been developed more by making her a true partner in a tag-battle for the rest of the game after Agate.

The only problem is that, in order for shadow Pokemon to make sense, their basic foundation has to be incorporated into any future games as well. This meaning that they would be more overpowered than megas are, currently. Don't forget that every single shadow attack is super effective on anything that isn't a shadow Pokemon, so I can definitely see that getting on people's nerves a lot if they were incorporated in a more competitive battlefield. D:
They could go back to how it was in Colosseum and have Shadow type moves (all one of them back then :V) be neutral against everything. Alternatively they could just put a limit on Shadow Pokemon in wifi battles or even in-game challenges like the E4, like how in Colo and XD you couldn't trade Shadow Pokemon.

I enjoyed these two games a lot, and would like to replay them. Actually, I have them both. I'm staring at them right now :P .

I only have one problem with them that is a complete showstopper for me... the battles. No, not the fact that almost all of the battles are double battles, that I liked. It's the animations. They last freaking forever! Gen 4 has nothing on Colosseum and XD in terms of slowness.

But again, that is frankly my only problem with these two games. If Game Freak or Genius Sonority made remakes of these games using the Gen 6 engine, I'd buy them both on day one.
