So does anyone here like playing games involving sports? I'm talking like the MLB: The Show, Madden, NBA 2K, PES, Fifa. I don't play many myself, except for Madden with a friend every once in a while. However, my brother is obsessed with the new NBA 2K16 game. So do you play any sports games often. what are your favorites? I'm thinking of maybe getting Fifa when it goes on sale. Honestly to me, all of the games year to year are so similar that's it's not even worth buying. I think that sports games are actually declining and may not be as prevalent in the future; except for Fifa because that is still one of the most popular franchises worldwide.

Also, throwback to the Backyard baseball days. Those games were the bomb! So were the games like Super Mario Strikers Charged on the Wii! I was like 3rd. in the world at one point in that, such a fun game.

I was a big fan of them in my PC times, I played the big three (FIFA, NHL, NBA) mostly.
Currently, I don't particularly look for them (paying for the updated rosters is meh) so I just play them if I get them for free.

When it comes to sports video games, the only ones I really liked playing were the ones in the Backyard Sports series. As for sports games under the EA Sports label, I am not really a fan.

I don't play them, but I love when people trade them in at GameStop and they're mad that the games don't get them much in cash or credit and I have to explain that since these suckers are pumped out every year and it's always the same thing, they just ain't worth much. lol I mean yeah, it sucks, but it's just idk how people don't understand that. Same with the Call of Duty games really, but eh.

I like FIFA and I play it all the time, I love football so I guess thats why ha.

I only play the career modes because I like making my own player and teams giving them a story etc.

yeah its a pretty big rip off buying the new one every year because EA never add anything to the career modes (only FUT the money grabbing mode I wouldn't touch) but I still end up getting it every year somehow.

I actually bought NBA 2K16 as well this year because I watched someone play it and it looked cool but then I realised I knew nothing about basketball so was terrible at it

I like sports games, but I typically don't buy the newest one most years and tend to prefer to stick to the franchise management modes where I basically act as a GM. My favorite game for its game mode is probably one of the NBA Live games from the early 2000s before they overloaded the game with a bunch of "Do X to get a boost!" things toward the end of the series's first lifespan. My favorite franchise management game modes are from MLB: The Show (in particular its last few PS2 releases).

My favorite non-traditional sports management games are Xpert Eleven and Basketball GM.

I also occasionally do enjoy the simplicity of the various Backyard Sports games.

I learn how to play sports games because its what most of the ladies can actually play comfortably. It would be pretty awkward to ask the girls to play Senran Kagura or anything that involves my own personal tastes so its something i have to deal with.

But yeah, just to lick some mustard and salt to the sports game wounds, AVGN pretty much sums it up:

AVGN Rant on Sports games in general.
Spoiler:

To be completely honest, I 100% agree with AVGN's rant and how Sports games where actually sports games on ATARI.

In the context of that video's punchline, this sentence of yours makes no sense.

I used to play several sports games a lot, especially when I was playing PSX back then. Most of them involves soccer, even though I also played Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, and several NBA games (NBA Live and NBA Shootout) as well.

I still remember when Winning Eleven (Pro Evolution Soccer) was booming in my country back in the PSX days, not to mention when I hear Jon Kabira (the Japanese commentator in the game) shouts "Goal!!!" as loud as he can, it was very satisfying. And at some point, I also played Super Shot Soccer, it's just like Inazuma Eleven, but without the RPG part.

I do wish sports games become more common, though, because I wanted to play high-end sports games in my 3DS again.

They are insanely common here in the US, but since most people want to play sports games socially and on their large TV screens, devs have generally stopped making sports games for handhelds likely due to extra money and effort being expended on a segment that probably wasn't very profitable and took resources away from the big-money console versions. This also is why there aren't nearly as many for the Wii and Wii U, either. Sports fans bought the "cooler" consoles. I'm pretty sure EA utilizes quite a bit of the profits from Madden, NHL, and FIFA to bankroll new IPs that they think have a shot at being profitable, so the sports games do still bring in money like crazy. They just limit the systems they're released on to maximize their profits.
