Normally I'd talk about whether it can be good or bad, but you know...it can be necessary.

People often think about the consumer end, but really, one reason that that DLC exists at all is because, past initial launch, games don't make all that much money. Secondhand gaming certainly doesn't help. DLC helps keep a somewhat steady stream of revenue and, while it's not always justified (looking at you, Last Round), it can keep a game in business, especially after a lukewarm release or an overhyped release that's met with mixed or negative reception.

And as for microtransactions...well, in the case of a full-priced release, I'd say it's almost never welcome. Almost. In the case of F2P's, though...it's how they make their money, and I have much less of a problem with the practice as I do the lack of understanding amongst devs/pubs of how to introduce it in a way that's appealing and non-intrusive (though it being intrusive can be necessary in some cases, but this is mishandled far more than it is handled correctly).

As a full supporter of F2P Online games, i highly support the use of microtransactions, especially if they are ones that give a lot of fun for the buyers without granting really huge advantages to those who can't afford or don't buy.

In fact, i often buy them when i fully support the said game. League of Legends and Path of Exile are two of these F2P games that I have actually spent some money on to buy some really nice stuff because i fully support these two games to the core.

DLC is a great concept, kind of like a glorified expansion pack, but boy do companies constantly abuse this business practice by purposefully locking finished content inside the disc and ask you to pay in order to unlock them. Only a few companies such as Nintendo were able to utilize DLC as originally intended, by creating additional content after releasing their games, and they are not a requirement to finish the game 100%. Microtransations are another reason why gamers despise mobile games, and it's not doing any better with traditional games for them either.

Heheh, heheh. Honestly it depends on the game; if it's a game that I will spend a lot of time playing then I will more than likely buy the DLC because I am a cheap bastard. Like for Smash 4 I will buy the new characters but not the amiibos because I play online mostly. However for a game like Barbie's Dreamhouse, unless I spent a god 30+ hours on the game then I won't buy the DLC.

We've also seen kind of a shift lately, where more companies are deciding to release games in episodes. As long as each episode isn't overpriced then I like the idea because it gives the gamer a chance to play part of the game to see if they want to spend more money on the other parts. However, this new trend also is annoying because I have no patience and want to play ALL of the game from the day it releases.

DLC is just a content you paid for few bucks just to get some extra stuff like storyline, new items, quest and etc there are some good points and bad points about DLC like I said before Developers sold these and we're so want extra staff into our games also suckers at it. I feel Mircotransaction is just way to milk money from people by selling awesomely and epic stuff for secondary and premium currencies, to bypass waiting period (time for building or staff to finish, avoid waiting for energy to fully load), upgrades and many more and Mircotransactions and free games is another bias on the mobile gaming and 3DS or portable consoles out there.

I really don't mind DLCs, even from the consumer's end. I'm actually excited when I see a DLC for a game I really enjoy (provided it's a reasonable DLC that adds a substantial amount of content, and not something that should have been like a free patch) - I'm always kind of sad when I finish a game that was really good, so any time the devs add a new bit of story/chapter or anything that gives me a reason to pick it up again, I'm for it.

I do hate microtransactions though and I refuse to pay through those, I'd much rather pay once for a game and have access to all features than download something "free to play" that obstructs you and asks you for money at every turn. Maybe I just haven't been playing good games that do microtransactions well.

For me, it really depends how the game uses it. It's just that today, you don't seem to get squat for the price, and there's always more and more and more coming. Games also cost more and more. I personally can do without aesthetic changes, but I'd love getting freaking the notion of expansion packs back, instead of "DLC here, microtransaction there, and here you can buy weapons to be overpowered!"

And don't get me started on games like Disney Infinity, Skylanders and the new Lego thing that came out. It's a "buy ALL toys to play the game you just bought, aside the actual expansion packs..."

I know games cost a lot to make; I work in QA... when a client can't afford more QA, well that's also less people working on our end.

Then we see "line 3" mobile games making millions off microtransactions and we collectively weep. But it works as a business model.
