Earlier today, various Japanese developers gave statements regarding their plans for 2016, some of whom, having produced a number of series that are either MIA or flatlined, have made vague statements regarding new entries in unspecified series. This, of course, brings with it the hope that someone's favorite lost-to-time franchise will again see the light of day.

Which brings me to the topic of this thread: are there any franchises that haven't seen any releases in years or have been discontinued that you would like to see revived?

HD Legend of Dragoon updated to an ATB-style. The "wait" set style always bugged me. I adapted, even found it useful since there was no way to pause the game, but man, the Addition system in ATBs would be really fun. (And a branching storyline... Lavitz needs his happy ending...)

Onimusha. Just gimme more Onimusha. I enjoyed the entire series, even the spin-offs (I have the SSB-style brawler, and Onimusha Tactics on emulator) and I just need more. Preferably longer. They've always felt too short, even with O2 being replay-friendly.

There is no knowledge that is not power.

I want a continuation of the misadventures of tron bonne. That game was my jam back when i was a kid and i still play it every now and then when nothing else sounds good. Also an ending to the golden sun series would be nice.

Darksiders, especially a four player co-op one where you can play as each of the horsemen
Prototype, as long as they move away from the characters in the first two games. Mercer being the villain in 2 was dumb
And actual new Overlord game would be nice, instead of a game that just takes place in the same universe

I want to see another Blue Dragon game come to the Nintendo 3DS. I played the original on Xbox 360 and although it was tedious times, I really had a fun time with it! Also, the anime was good but that's a whole other thing.

Also GUITAR HERO for 3DS! I know a lot of people couldn't stand it, but I LOVED it on the Nintendo DS. That games was so fun, and I played it so much. Even wrote a guide about it on myspace in middle school.

I would also like to see The Earthbound series come back. And if not a new game, then at least bring the games to the Shop on the Wii U.

Suikoden. The beautiful yet forlorn RPG series of Konami's. It's only been three years since the last entry, but that was a spin-off. The last mainline entry was released back in 2006. That's nine years since the last "true" Suikoden game. It's a shame really, it's a fairly distinct series with a lot of a cool recurring mechanics. The 108 Stars of Destiny might be tedious, it's still cool that they've stuck with that concept. Plus, Army Battles! Adding a little spice of SRPG into a game is okay in my book.

But Suikoden's revival is almost certainly nil. Especially regarding the current state of Konami. Speaking of which, I should really get around to Tsumugareshi.

And if not a new game, then at least bring the games to the Shop on the Wii U.
...They are. Both Earthbound Beginnings and Earthbound are available to purchase. Mother 3 being the only exception, but it's available in the Japanese Wii U Shop.

Oh, then when I go back to school I'll buy them. I don't look at the shop much, I only bought Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards and Paper Mario on there. :p

Wasn't Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier suppose to be Jak 4?
We don't talk about that game.

BOKTAI. Boktai 3 never came to the West and The Lunar knights... thing; didn't really do justice to the series, at least in my opinion. Unfortunately, Konami is... well, they're Konami, you can't really get more screwed than them.
Also, another Golden Sun would be nice, since Nintendo really needs the RPG presence (6 Fire Emblem characters in Smash, Really Nintendo?)

I'm with Suikoden as well. Konami did a great job at slowly building the world with each entry as well as the lore surrounding the True Runes. Such a damn shame too since I was up for exploring the mentioned countries and encountering new True Runes. Seems we'll never get the chance to fully explore Harmonia. -_-

Also Grandia, Wild ARMs, Shadow Hearts and Baten Kaitos, JRPGs series whose last game was 10+ years ago as well definitely need to brought back from the dead.

So there's this series called F-Zero. What's F-Zero? Well it's a racing game. The best, actually. The tightest and most satisfying you'll ever play.

Despite not having a game for a little more than a decade, the series has a dedicated community and the games are still played and admired this day. There's new things being discovered, world records being made and despite their age, they're still as good as they were when they were released. Just watch this insane LIVE speedrun of GX

I like to think the reason there isn't a sequel is because you can't improve on perfection.

That's more or less the reason, yes. There's nothing new to make with it outside of a re-release.

I've beaten F-Zero X on Master difficulty (all cups) but the difference in skill between me and the top dogs is insane.

I dunno if GX had the track creator but I'd kiss Nintendo's feet if they re-released X with the scrapped track creator from the 64DD.

SNK-Playmore itself is a company that needs a revival but anyway:
I put my things in spoiler tags to not have walls of texts so...

Metal Slug.
Spoiler:
Possibly my favorite game series from SNK since the first time playing this one in the arcades. Metal Slug and its entirety was basically everything that I loved about a side scrolling run n gun action game = Excellent mix of run and gun with some awesome boss battles, ridiculous weaponry, humorous character designs, sexy official artwork (Eri and Fio official art), and very family friendly action for everyone. Metal Slug was simply one of the greatest things from the 90s to the early 2000's and it would be cool to see a new Metal Slug game in 2.5D but with the awesome graphic style reminiscent Guilty Gear XrD. A reboot of the franchise and story-line would definitely be something I'd want to happen. If not a reboot of the storyline, just a remake or retelling of the Metal Slug story. Though if they are going to do that, they should not screw things up like the abomination that was Metal Slug 3D.

I'm pretty aware that Metal Slug still exists.... somewhere with newer "entries" being mobile app games and some of the older games are playable on consoles (PS3/Vita/PS4), and Metal Slug 3 (easily the best of the MSlug games) now being playable on STEAM but still, a new retelling and facelift might be something that I would definitely want to see.

Samurai Shodown.
Spoiler:
Perhaps the more underlooked series in SNK's library of games compared to the likes of King of Fighters. Samurai Shodown was something i enjoyed for its aesthetics, weapon based combat, over the top moves, nice cultural references, and some really awesome character designs.

and to branch out of SNK-Playmore;

Also NBA Jam. Yes, the only basketball game that I've ever loved, as well as others who didn't like the endless amounts of NBA titles out there. NBA Jam was everything i liked in a sports game.

Shhwonk

always with the games, etc.

This is gonna be longer post because I'm literally gonna skim through my whole collection to find series that I haven't heard from in a long time.

Mega Man series - be it a revival of the main series, Battle Network, Star Force, Zero, ZX, Legends... whatever! I just want another Mega Man game! And the more I see of Mighty No 9, the more I feel that I'll be disappointed when it finally comes out. It's being led by the guy who drew the Mega Man designs.

Final Fantasy Tactics series - Tactics A2 for the DS was amazing imo, but a lot of people were turned off by it because it seemed like it was trying to appeal to younger audiences. I personally didn't mind it, but seeing another gritty entry to the FF Tactics franchise would be great. Or Tactics Ogre.

Sonic - are you kidding me? With such widely enjoyed classics such as Sonic '06, Sonic Boom, and Sonic's Schoolhouse, this franchise should be milked for all it's worth.

Paper Mario series - I know it's been getting a steady stream of remakes, but what I think everyone wants is a revival of the style of the first two entries. M&L Paper Jam is coming out (so it sort of counts because it's a crossover), but it's not out yet in NA so I'll judge after that.

EarthBound series - come on. This entire series is pure gold, absolutely beautiful. Itoi has expressed that he has no motivation to continue it. The thing is, the framework of all his work already exists. It would take some studying of the series and what makes them so charming, but it's totally possible. Hell, there are hundreds of EB fangames, even a fanmade Mother 4. It's wishful thinking, but I could see Toby Fox, the guy who did UnderTale and also did an EarthBound ROM hack, being able to recreate the magic of EarthBound.

Team Ico - where's The Last Guardian, guys?

Call of Duty - this series is completely underrated.

Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Goku series - these games were my childhood, but were pretty obscure. I love the mix of action RPG with the world of DBZ. So many possibilities: they could use the world of the original Dragon Ball, or GT, or any of the movies.

Monster Hunter series - something on console or PC. Handheld is awesome, but I wanna see dem monsters on the big screen. Graphiks. Sound system. You get the picture.

Titanic - we need to see more movie-to-video game adaptations of Titanic. Preferrably in the style of Pokémon, where you can catch and train all the passengers, maybe even catch the iceberg.

Chrono series - Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross were astounding. They had deep worlds and great gameplay. Cross was loosely connected to Trigger, so maintained continuity, but wasn't dragged down by trying to mimic what Trigger did.

Gaia series- Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma had incredible ideas, and were thematically connected, but each did different things with their concepts. Their storytelling and worldbuilding were well-done. I'd love to see the idea of creating the universe from scratch explored in an RPG again.

Bubsy - I wanna see Bubsy VR.
