We all know that Nintendo's next big move is probably going to be the Nintendo NX. When will the release be? Probably later in 2016, however I don't think that's a definite yet we may end up seeing it in 2017. We know what Nintendo's new console will be and we know little about it, but what about Sony and Microsoft? They have many successful titles out now, and I believe that they are more focused on game right now. But what do you see in their futures? The PS5, Xbox 2?

I think that Microsoft and Sony are currently doing better than Nintendo is. I feel like Nintendo has dug a hole, and the Microsoft is about at the even point (maybe a little over it now that Halo 5 is out) and that Sony is on top. I think we may see a new console for them in late 2017 or early 2018.

Depends on how the market evolves. It could be that Steam Machines become successful and break the console market.

If Nintendo's alleged move to Android is true, this would open an incredible amount of possibilities. Every streaming app is on Android, and Android has Steam support. I'd totally buy a Nintendo media center box if it was Android-based.

Please do it, Nintendo.

Hm, if Nintendo teamed up with Android that would definitely be a big move for both parties. Nintendo needs to make a big move right now.
If you could play Nintendo games on the box and use Steam streaming for PC support, you'd have a gaming machine like no other.

Nintendo's biggest problem is that the guys who develop the gizmos are the best but the managers are really conservative. Now imagine if the NX's controller also doubled as an Android tablet. I'd sell one of my kidneys for an NX then.

Of course, Sony will come out with the PlayStation 5, and whatever the hell the next Xbox is; Nintendo... Ah, I'm one of the people betting on the NX being something earth-shattering, and I'm pretty damn sure that that's all Nintendo's praying for it to be considering how fall the Wii U hath fallen from their expectations, and I do agree with the other posters that getting with Android would be a big move for them.

From what I know, Microsoft's shareholders are begging them to kill off the Xbox brand, as it's not making enough money since the beginning. I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft were to drop off the market. Sony on the other hand, despite having a financial crisis from all of their other branches, I suspect them to still stick around the gaming market due to how stubborn they are, and they'll continue try to sell their other divisions to keep themselves afloat until bankruptcy eventually occurs. And despite all of these happenings, you guys still think Nintendo is in deeper trouble than these two when these situations are far worse than the Wii U flopping. If they could survive with the N64 and GCN flopping, then they can still survive with the Wii U "flopping" too, which is why I disagree with you guys claiming that Android would "save" Nintendo, because it sounds to me you guys really do want them to go third-party, just so you could play their games on your PC legally. Also, the Steam Machine might end up being a flop based on mixed receptions on its controller.

Yeah, roughly the same feeling here. PS5, Xbox <insert name here>, but we probably won't see them much before 2018 or so (and I hope so, I recently bought a PS4 =_=). Hopefully, that backwards compatibility for PS2 titles will show up soon, because we can apparently forget PS3 titles - but since the Vita is pretty much a handheld PS3, I'd love more support for the Vita. I'd get one, really. I still have my old PSP.

As for Nintendo, Android would be perfect. They said they wouldn't, but they have a history of saying no, then bam, doing it anyways. I'd love that. Steam support would also be really nice~... but let's face it, they'll probably stick to their own download platform and shove the Mii social network stuff back in our faces x.x.

There is no knowledge that is not power.

Don't count on it. Steam and Nintendo have already tried to get something working, but it flopped. Also, Nintendo has teamed up with DeNA which has its own mobile platform to work with. And seeing how DeNA is the most popular and success mobile platforms in Japan, its an excellent move for teaming up with. And since DeNA is planning to make its platform available to the west, its possible that the Nintendo x DeNA relationship could be potent as all heck.

Well, seeing how the NX has been confirmed to not be a 100% replacer for the WiiU or the 3DS, it sounds like the new generation console yes. But what it sounds like to me its Nintendo's next big networking program. Since its going to be crosslayering with WiiU, 3DS, Tablet, Smartphone, and PC. You can already it in alpha with the Eshop and Mario Maker having online website connections and such. This is NX.

Also, the WiiU's expectations dropped at launch before of fear and weakness in the company. If there were more promotion for it being less of the Wii and more of the successor of the Wii, it would of been possibly more successful. Now seeing how Mario Maker, Smash Bros, Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, and a few other titles really brought sales up to what they were original expecting, I don't think they are going to be completely cutting off the WiiU's services yet. Its too much of a lost if they do.

I think what they are going to do is they are going to making games and releasing them for their new console and the WiiU so those who can't move on still can play and since the games are going to be crosslayering with each other, it would work. In one of their directs was stated, "Take your Nintendo with you. Play a game on your console? Play it on your handheld? Play it from where you are comfortable." This implies the cross-play features of the NX system, so the WiiU and 3DS are not getting snubbed out.

To pinpoint what he's saying about crosslayering in question, here's the image of it from one of Nintendo's power points back in I believe March or April:

What's next...? Sony will push PS4 even more and Xbone will flop completely.
But we're talking about next gen, huh?

I think we won't see anything about PS5 at least for 2-3 years. Maybe announcement that Sony is starting working on it, but they are investing too much effort into PS4 to work on something that would replace it.

As for MS, I'm 99% sure the next one won't be named Xbox2, they WILL think of some unrelated name again.
In any case, I predict that Xbone's successor will be the last MS console.
With how they are getting pounded by PS4 this gen, I don't see a nice future of MS console branch... Which will imo hurt the console business since Sony will be the alone there.

I'd love more support for the Vita.
Well yea, that's not gonna happen :/

I don't know if you realize this but Steam has an Android client. If the NX's OS is Android-based, there's a possibility Steam would port the client to it or, even better, it would run on the NX without the need to port. The SteamOS is a move from Valve to take its share of the gaming market, but the biggest thing that keeps Valve going remains the store, which makes Valve want to be everywhere despite selling its own platform.

The way I see it could work is Nintendo making their native games for the NX available digitally and/or via disk, and the NX running a Steam client that would stream PC games from a desktop. This is something only Nvidia can do ATM (with the Shield) and Nvidia's native game library is pathetic compared to Nintendo's. Nintendo doesn't need to sell their games on Steam.

Even if Nintendo doesn't do it, someone could still jailbreak it and run stuff on the NX, which would be a very convenient side-effect for Nintendo like the PSP's ease of hacking was for Sony.

To be honest, I'm not banking on Nintendo coming out with something earth-shattering. I bet on that twice already (Wii and Wii U) and was mostly disappointed. Is it too much to ask for a Nintendo console that isn't super gimmicky?
What I got from the latest article on the NX was that the NX's controller could also be Nintendo's next handheld. They won't give up the handheld market, because of Pokémon, so they may morph the next handheld into something more versatile.

Will Nintendo enter the mobile market? Of course. But they'll do it in usual Nintendo fashion: by selling their own machine.

Whether you like it or not, Nintendo breathes through gimmicks on their systems (minus the GCN), which is why Sony and Microsoft's consoles fail to impress, especially how both of their hardware and software library feel almost exactly the same that there really isn't any difference to pick one over the other. Either Sony and Microsoft take a big risk by introducing a working gimmick for their next gen console, or else there will be a repeat of our current gen.

If Sony and Microsoft's consoles are "failing to impress" then why are they both outselling the Wii U? I just got a PS4 and I'm already having more fun playing Bloodborne than I ever did playing Smash 4 or Hyrule Warriors....and I've had a Wii U for a year and half longer.

If there isn't any difference... why are there things called... you know... exclusives?

THIS IS BIG HYPOTHETICAL BUT....

Honestly, I could see Steam coming to a point where it eventually breaks the market. If the Steam machine gets cheap enough, and works as well if not better than a console then this could definitely be in the future. Furthermore, if like VR could be incorporated with the Steam Machine then we would have a mega console. Steam has the best deals, and the best bundles most of the time. I would consider switching over from a PS4 or Xbox One to a Steam machine in the future if they continue to improve. Computer games normally have better graphics than console games do, there's a larger variety of games (especially if you're an indie gamer) and the deals from time to time don't suck.

I think that the gaming industry is at the point where pairing up with companies like Android and maybe even Apple could be a good idea. I really don't know what they will bring to the table, but any company teaming up with Apple would be scary.

I think you missed out the part where I said "almost." But the number of exclusives on both systems are dwarfed by the large number of multi-platform titles.

I did read that almost, but it felt like you meant the number of exclusives is same for PS4 and Xbone, and it seems you were talking about comparison to multiplatform titles.
Well, that is obvious. The market is run by multiplatforms.
