I really wish you saw more of Chinese New Year here in the states. I'm sure some of the China Towns in our bigger cities see some celebrations, but here in the suburbs you don't see much mention of it. It's a shame, because the decorations and the festivals in general always look so pretty when I see pictures of them.

That

looks way prettier than anything that we do for our New Years here.

Ours is just a typical city setting.

Or maybe I'm just not as impressed, because it's what I see every year.

Our family's Chinese so we celebrate it every year! We usually have a huge family gathering, either at one of the more expensive restaurants around town or at someone's house for the whole day. The lion dances, red pocket money, festivals and decorations are all fantastic parts of Chinese New Year and so is the food and getting to see a lot of my cousins that I haven't talked to in ages.

Quite a few people celebrate Chinese New Year so it's always a really loud but great time of the year. I'm looking forward to celebrating it a lot. :]

I find it kind of awkward calling it Chinese New Years since non-Chinese Asians also celebrate it. (The Vietnamese for one.) I usually refer to it as Lunar New Year.

But anyway, back to the topic at hand, both sides of my family have parties for it. Sometimes we go out to an Asian shopping plaza that has lion dancing performances, fire crackers, game and food stands, and a horrible mini-carnival. But most of the time, we hang out at someone's house, eat good food, passing out red envelopes, and just generally have a good time.

I know we have some things that happen in the main town, but I never go in town just to celebrate it since there's too many people. I know there's a parade and probably stalls up and everything, but since I'm out of town I wouldn't go in town just see experience it.

Not chinese either so I don't celebrate it at all.

We usually go to our grandparents house and enjoy a great time with the whole family and I used to love getting some money, but I guess it's time to stop.

Chinese New Year is one of the few things that means even less to me than the Western New Year.

Chinese New Year, eh? Given that I'm born from Chinese family, my family and I had celebrated it over the years! Usually, I would talk with relatives and family, and it's full of firecrackers, the dancing lion (we call it Barongsai), Angpao, and many festive Chinese New Year songs around.
