What are your manners like? Do you always use your please and thank you's?

Contrary to popular belief, I think I'm well mannered. I don't always say the nicest things, but sometimes it's necessary to be blunt in order to get your points across. I think being honest is good etiquette in and of itself.

I try to make an effort to always say "please", "thank you", "you're welcome". It's just something that doesn't take extra effort and makes the recipient feel appreciated/look at you in better light. Sometimes if the person is being rude to you, and you still thank them and speak politely, they'll end up stopping. So it definitely does have it's psychological benefits which by itself makes it worth saying.
...
I have good manners, even if I toe the line between being bluntly honest and utterly tactless on occasion with certain things. I don't think maintaining a basic level of decency should be particularly difficult though, even when people clearly don't deserve it. I prefer to communicate my displeasure with people through thinly-veiled sarcasm and general contempt rather than through being blatantly, unnecessarily rude. We can be civilised when we're hurling insults at one another, surely?

Someone told me today

"You look very summery today!"

To which I replied

"Yes."

Because it wasn't strictly a compliment, was it? Even if it was probably meant as one... I sometimes find myself being quirky like that when I don't stop myself. But most often I believe my manners are reasonably good.

I've worked in retail and other public-facing jobs for most of my adult life so I'm usually extremely polite even when I don't need/want to be.

I also work retail and am usually extremely polite - even when I'm not working, it just doesn't go away. It's ingrained in me to the extent where some people have commented that I'm unusually pleasant. I think the only exception is when I have bad days or I'm stressed I can be not so well-mannered because I get really quiet, but I'd rather be quiet than talk and sound snappy.

Yes, I have good manners. I was taught from a young age to say please and thank you. My parents were quite strict in my upbringing that way.
That said, my shyness usually gets in the way of my asking for anything to really say please or thank you.

now what shall you do?

I'm kind of weird, I tend to be reasonably well mannered but I'm also blunt and sarcastic. The two probably cancel each other out and leave me neutral on the scale of politeness lol

I work with the public and have to be very polite, but unlike you guys I'm not that way outside of work. I'm not rude exactly, but I almost never say "thank you" to anyone for anything. I'm a kind of "actions speak louder than words" kind of person. So, like, if someone did something nice for me I'd offer to do something nice for them, like pay for their lunch or something, but I'd probably never say "thanks" at any point.

I am a real big slicker for manners. I say please loads and thank you loads, especially when it's people in retail or in restaurants as they've got to deal with enough shert as it is, and it makes them feel good.
I often hold doors, and whenever I rarely go on the bus I give up my seat for elderly/pregnant ladies if needed.

Though if someone is rude to me they get it twice even thrice as hard back

I am when I'm speaking English. My manners slip up a lot when I'm speaking Spanish. Unless I have to make my way in a packed bus, in which case I start just bulldozing myself through while saying "excuse me" every two seconds.

I guess it has to do with how I have been essentially taught to use "sorry", "please", "excuse me" and "thank you" as some sort of stops in sentences when studying English.

i get so mukty when people don't have basic respect for people just trying to do their job
and i make it a point to always be kind and uplifting to people working because god knows how awful some people are
particularly bus drivers and people i buy food from bc too often i see absolute abhorrent treatment to them and it drives me up the wall

in general i'm kind and polite to whoever i meet in public because that's just me
but i drop some of my manners/pleasantries around those i know because i can't be bothered and i like being unrestrained around those i know

I'm pretty good about manners when working or in public. With family, I'm constantly forgetting my "yes ma'am" and "sirs" and muk. But while working, I'm always respectful of those titles and such. And when I'm on the opposite end of retail or food service, I'm always mindful of that as well. I currently work retail and I used to be in food, so I know that people can be mukty. Even just a "thank you" for refilling water can make someone feel a little better. You never know who's having a really crummy day and the smallest kindness really does help.

I've always thought of myself as a pretty polite person; I make a habit of saying "please" and "thank you" to whoever I'm dealing with. Even when someone is screaming at or being completely rude to me, I'll stay calm rather than stoop to their level (as badly as I want to most of the time). But at the same time I only treat someone with the same amount of respect and politeness as they do me, so I guess it's kind of situational? I'm pretty sarcastic around my friends, but it's always in good humor.
