When I open my old hp laptop, Windows 7 OS, I was asked to type the password, but I really can't recall the password I set before, I can't reinstall the system because I am scared that the documents will be erased, I've tried every way I can think of to reset the password but not succeed, can you help?

Basically, if you have an USB flash drive for password reset, you should be fine.

But, I'm sure you dun have that above so, let's start with this method.

If you are using laptop, turn on your laptop, press F8 before the windows loading screen is up.
Or, the old way which kinda spoil your laptop, remove the battery while the laptop is on and not plugged in with charger

You should be entering advanced boot options, which has safe mode or normal boot. Choose safe mode with command prompt.

If you done it correct, windows will load and go to the login screen. A command prompt should be appeared.

Type this,

net user and press Enter.

All the windows account will be listed on the screen.

Alright, now find your locked user and type this to change the password.

net user [LOCKED USERNAME] [password]

Ex:

net user killer150 killer150

After that, you can put in your new password and log in.

However, reset disk only works on specific account that been set to so unless you able to get the password reset before forgetting your pass, the only way is do the command line as killer mentioned.
Post Sig coming soon.

If you don't like command line staff, you can make windows reset disk with USB. insert the disk into locked computer and reset Windows 7 password with a GUI interface.
Yeah, I don't like the command line, that makes me crazy! but what windows reset tool would you recommend? Thanks!

Well in my opinion screw passwords. You need to go into the real administrative account or what is known as the root user account ( the real user of the computer that can be accessed from a million miles away with no password ). Once there you should be able to reset the passwords or any actions of other accounts.

Problem with my computer the root/administrative user on some Windows computers does not exists. In fact XP have this but I am not sure about Vista/7/8/9/10 and the rest of the NT6.0 gang. You would have to have the pro version of Windows.

That is my two cents. Otherwise I would remove all my passwords because there is 3rd party software to encrypt the entire computer even before it boots into windows. For years even before 95 you could do this. I would encrypt the whole computer from the ground up with a gigantic 256-bit password.

In fact recently the government have been bullying the authors of encryption software as one person at an airport terminal was stopped and frisked and when asked to open his computer he refused ( as that is his right ). So the feds/airport people held on to his labtop for months and there was this court thing about it.

So do not bother using the official Windows passwords at all. Use encryption software that starts before the actual OS if you really need password support. In fact a computer I got recently used a Key-decryption software with a USB stick. Like the USB stick is the key with the other half of the password and so forth.

Personally I have abandoned Google mail along with Yahoo to go to Proton mail. It is a clean private system free of advertisement and anti-privacy BS. I was considering AOL mail but again these scumbags since 2001 and 2004 with anti-privacy have crossed the line. They pay companies in order give away contents of emails.

All standard passwords are breakable. the iphone has made news as well with problems breaking into the phones lock as well.

Passwords always can be broke one day. There is always a possible way even to hack the government or bank web page.

I dun know these stuff, but the technology can.
