Have you ever suffered an injury in sports before?

I was a hot mess when I was playing soccer back in high school. I suffered two concussions, sprained both my ankles, broke my leg in a game, and had to consistently wear a knee brace because it was super weak. I was basicaly a walking robot when it came to all the equipment I had to wear, but I wouldn't give up those experiences for the world.

broke my leg in a game
that is so gnarly, how did that happen? mad respect

me I've got some battle scars -- I've torn my meniscus and broken my arm playing basketball, then broken my ankle skating. but I will keep doing what I do until I become a fleshy and bruised stub

That's the attitude I like to hear.

Playoff game my senior year, first round. There was a 50/50 ball that a kid and I went after, and the opposing player came up from behind and kicked me in the back of the leg when I wasn't looking. Fractured it right then and there and had to get shipped off to the ER. Our team ended up winning, but it was a mute point as I was sidelined for the rest of the playoffs.

Sucks too just cause I wanted to get scouted that year for college. The broken leg combined with the two concussions I suffered that year prevented that from happening. Probably one of the very few regrets I have in life, but what can you do - just keep moving forward as they say.

I've never really done serious injury to myself, but I've gotten more cramps, sprains and pulled muscles than I can count. One weird injury that I remember though, is I somehow cut my knee open doing high jump at school and have no clue how it happened.

I've had only one injury while playing sports. I played 3 sports during school (got a scholarship for 1). I was playing American Football and I was a left defense end. We were whooping the other teams a**es and I made a play and an offensive lineman broke my tibia intentional. I was out for Basketball season as well, but got back for Baseball season.

In high school, I sometimes played soccer and the school had a mini tournament where all the coloured teams in the school and while my team won (I was in the blue team) there was a time when I played during lunch in the goalkeeper position and the ball came so fast it hurt my hand for a while.

It was thanks to that incident that I'd prefer kicking the ball than catching it.

There was one time during tennis practice I was supposed to volley, but I positioned the racket wrong and the tennis ball hit my face. Nothing too bad, just a bruise. There was then another incident where I slipped and my knee got scraped, but that wasn't too serious either.

The sport I've played the most is Badminton and it's an achievement to get injured playing that. Most injuries I've had are from falling off my bike. Never broken anything though - woohoo!

I got my knee kicked sideways once. It's been kind of weak ever since, though I didn't end up with a torn ACL or anything that serious. I also almost broke my hand from an athletic pursuit at one point. Aside from that, I've mainly had muscle strains and sprains.

I had a pretty gnarly MCL Sprain & high ankle sprain at the same time my sophomore lacrosse season that nagged me that whole 3 month season, I wore a brace on it just in case of future contact - my dad tore his ACL/MCL/PCL once and had major surgery to fix it all and I made a point to avoid that. It sucked, haha.

Do you still have issues with your ankles? I find that mine are fairly weak after spraining them a few times. Sucks cause I just really want to continue playing soccer but I kept getting no injured.
I haven't had anything as serious as say a broken bone/torn ligament (thankfully), but I definitely have had my fair share of grazes/bruises/sprains/concussions throughout.

What's even worse is that most of these are playing Basketball and Field Hockey which are supposed to be non-contact sports! A few notable incidents have been:
  • Several bruises at the bases of my fingers, where sometimes in B-Ball the ball would land directly on top of your finger when receiving a pass etc.
  • A scratch on my eye in Badminton - someone decided to smash it AT me and got the angle very wrong.
  • Skinning half of my leg - when playing soccer/field hockey and the like, we played it on an AstroTurf court. This is a court which essentially has sand mixed with some other stuff on it for I assume grip. However when you fall over...........you end up scraping most of your skin off
.
How did you end up getting your concussions?

From playing basketball, I have:
  • Sprained my arm once and my ankles MANY MANY times
  • Fractured my scaphoid bone on my shooting hand
  • Re-aggrevated that same fracture a year later

Unfortunately I had to miss out on the majority of my last year in high school's basketball games because of a sprained ankle I got during try outs. Thankfully I still made the team because my coach knew I was good enough when I could move. But I only ended up playing in a small handful of games. By the time I had recovered fully, it was our Zone Championship match... and I twisted my ankle again on my first possession. :/ Needless to say that was the last I ever played basketball at a competitive level.

It was my left leg, which is my dominate leg ironically, and I don't think so, the next season it was fine, no lasting issues. I did have some lingering shoulder issues though, I was pretty certain I tweaked it/sprained something my senior year and it lasted into the summer after I graduated High School.

Was your shoulder just one of those injuries where you said to yourself "eh I'm fine, no need to see a doctor"? I've done that a few times (i.e. just sucked it up and played through it) during my soccer tenure.
