You can't fight fate. Plenty of video games give you the luxury of choice, which can affect anything from the dialogue to the ending...but plenty don't. Don't want that annoying character in your party? That's fine, but they're going to tag along anyway! Want to think about that 20 million loan? That's fine, but you're not going anywhere until you take it, just so you know. Do you know how this works? Yes? I'm just going to tell you anyway as though you don't, OK? No? I CAN'T HEAR YOU, SO THIS HOW IT WORKS BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW RIGHT?

So, have there ever been any video games that have forced you into picking a specific option that you really didn't want to choose? What do you imagine would have happened in the game if you had been allowed to choose your own destiny? What do you think of the forced choice mechanic in general? Ever made a choice and had the game go disastrously wrong because it was obviously not the one the developers had planned?

the forced renegade option in the end of mass effect 3 still irks me to this day
my first shephard was a paragon with some renegade cruelty involved, but it still rubbed me the wrong way. in order to finish the game you were forced to choose the renegade option, despite any possible moral or storyline objections to choosing renegade. really drove home the hollowness of the morality choices in the series.
