It seems for everything the gaming industry gets right, there are about a million other things it gets wrong. A hotly anticipated game is announced, then spoiled by the fact that it comes with another game and only with another game. Delays on top of delays on top of delays. Announcements of announcements of announcements. Multiplayer glitches and useless patches for said glitches. Video games might be great, but there is a lot of excess baggage and frustration to work around both before and after their release.

So, share with us some recent (within the last three years; let's not go crazy here) happenings in the industry that have made you shake your head in disgust, made your blood boil, or made you abandon all hope for humanity. Have these things dampened your enthusiasm for the game in question, or have you been able to maintain your hype? Do you find yourself more pleased with what is coming out, or more annoyed with the way it's all handled?

Yes, the creation of this thread was prompted almost entirely by Nintendo, Atlus, and Square Enix.

League of Legends related: TWO OF THEM

Riot removing Talon's Silence from his 3rd ability (June 2014).
Spoiler:
This was highly controversial back in the day mainly for a couple of reasons: Before June of 2014,Talon was at the peak of his viability in both ranked play and even professional play mainly for his use as a strong anti-mage role in the mid lane, being strong enough to stand toe to toe against almost any champion in the mid lane, especially against mages. Talon, if fed quite early, through assistance via mid lane ganks, could completely demolish an enemy team with his extremely high burst damage and his very apparent 2 item power spike. However, Riot found that the High damage assassin with a silence was way too overpowered and decided to remove it, replacing it with a 99% Slow that lasts barely a quarter of a second. This was highly controversial since Talon when he was released back in 2010 was not really a champ that people bothered to play as. But since then, the level of play has increased and many people thought that Talon was indeed very strong, strong enough to reach competitive play. But Riot being Riot, they removed the silence because it basically made counter play against Talon non existent. This basically killed off Talon's chances of scoring high in the competitive scene and many people found it to be out of the line.

its sad. I really did enjoy playing Talon when i got to learn him. Heck even up to this day, but the removal of his silence meant that his role as a counter-mage was long dead. You're pretty much MUCH MORE DEPENDENT on getting fed early and having jungler assistance. The removal of his silence from his 3rd skill really made me almost want to not play anything other than my jungle role.

2) Riot cancelling Solo queue, replacing it with Dynamic Queue. (Early 2016)
Spoiler:
Now I'm not going to talk about why Solo queue should be a thing. I'm just here to share something i found really controversial. For years since ranked play in League came to be, Solo queue was the thing. You log in, get into the queue, team up with 4 other nobodies, work together and win. That's basically what it was. You could tag a partner along and duo queue as well. The importance is that when you play well in solo queue, you really show a lot of skills. But ever since a new mode of queue was introduced called "Dynamic queue", Solo queue was cancelled out. This was very controversial to the point where a lot of pro players even spoke out about this. The thing with Dynamic queue is that its how people will have to play in order for them to get their competitive fix. Dynamic queue's essential difference compared to the old queue is that you can take more than 1 more ally along, even form a 5 man team and climb the league together. Ideally that somewhat solves the issue of solo que being toxic right? Heck, here's the thing. Not everyone still has time to form large groups. A lot of people still play ranked League solo or with a duo, and chances are, you could end up with a group of 3 in their own queue, but also face off against an ACTUAL 5 MAN QUEUE. A lot of people have said that this was the worst decision that Riot has ever made for League of Legends. I would agree as well. Dynamic queue is really busted. I would have liked to continue climbing up the ladder on my own or with a very trusty tag team partner and be forced to work with other nobodies since that's what people liked doing as well. People can easily reach higher ranks if they play with their friends and have them get carried. That's not how climbing solo queue is for me. I mean if you want to have fun with your friends, play a 5-man normal queue and not worry about pick-bans. Ranked was supposed to be super serious and is a show of your individual skill level and ability to influence wins.

And on a funny note. the same time period where Riot decides to cancel out Solo que was the time when Blizzard's Heroes of the Storm dev team decided that Ranked HOTS should be something like only solo or duo queues. LEL!

3) AWP Nerf in CSGO (March 2015):
Spoiler:
For those who have played Counter Strike for the longest and longest of times, you all know the unholy power of the AWP. For years, players and awpers alike have played with, around, and against the said weapon in every iteration of Counter Strike. In 2015, valve decided that enough is enough and nerfed the AWP big time in such a way that many professional CS players spoke about it.

What is the AWP nerf? The AWP has been changed so that players move much slower while scoped in. For years, before CSGO and even during CSGO before the March patch, many people have played the AWP with as style of moving while scoping especially in corners. This allowed many skilled snipers to have some mobility while maintaining their tactical advantage. But March of 2015 really changed it all. Mega nerfing the AWP mechanics was something that a lot players spoke about. This made peeking around corners while scoped much much riskier, and given the very heavy movement speed penalty the AWP already has pretty much punishes the playstyle very hard. Of course, lower tier players praised the nerf though.

I'm not a hardcore AWPer but if i had to pick the weapon up, I'd be able to score a few kills with it. The meganerf to AWP meant that if you aren't a sniper but you can score a few kills, do not even bother. Its already risky using the weapon if you aren't accustomed to it. Its even more risky now given that you move MUCH SLOWER when scoping with it. So don't even bother.

I'm against paid DLC in general, especially if it's required to play the full game. I have no issue with patches and expansion sets (like you'd see with an MMO), but I can't help but feel like I'm being cheated when I have to spend 120+ USD to have access to all of the in-game content. It actually makes the 60 USD version worthless, in my opinion.

Would this be the right place to bring up my frustration with Nintendo and their treatment towards those who let's play and review their games?

On something more directly gaming related, on disc DLC should not be a thing. If you purchase a game, it should be a right to be able to get everything on the disc without having to pay more money just to unlock it.

In general, situations like the one that's currently plaguing Steam ever since Greenlight was introduced. It allows for way too many games, of dubious quality.
We're being absolutely drowned in new games every day of every week, which makes it harder for people (specifically indie developers) with quality games to actually make money on the platform. It seems more and more likely that we'll eventually see a repeat of the video game crash of '83 in the not so distant future.
