Just recently, I found out that in Advanced Options of Power Management in Windows, there are two types of cooling policies when cooling my laptop. First, there is Passive Cooling, which is basically slows the processor first if the laptop is heating, and the second, comes Active Cooling, which uses the fan inside of the laptop to try to cool it off while retaining the performance most of the time, albeit at cost of hearing fan noises.

Which cooling method in your laptop do you prefer, and why?

Personally I prefer Passive Cooling tad bit better, because even though it might slow down my laptop when it gets heated, at least I don't hear the fan noise most of the time, so that I'm not disturbed when playing some video or music on occasion, so the saying "silence is golden" might apply for me.

I prefer active since I have a desktop gaming powerhouse in an ATX XL case (okay, it's a mid-range machine, but plenty upgradeable) and I'd like my investment to do her best for senpai. I've tried using passive but it didn't make a difference to either noise or performance. I guess that's a side-effect of having the PC in a very small room where the ambient temperature increases very easily from any heat produced.

Well, my laptop has automatic fan speed control. So, when the laptop is running low the fan will be slow but when the laptop running at max power, the fan can spin at the fastest 7500 rpm. So, the temp can be cooled down for like 4 to 5 degrees.
