Ahoi,

I wanted to play competitive for a while. I started reading aboute teambuiding, Playstyles, Offensive a nd Defensive cores and so on... I also know basics (a bit) about breeding.

But then when I decided to start building a first team, to try in random online battles for the first time ever for me i had hell of some problems..!

I wanted to build a Core, which I found on Smogon and found pretty intresting / attractive to me (as im a beginner, idk if its really good or not, but I want to try it) but here comes the probleme.

Amoongose,
Slowking,
Arcanine - Core

Okay then - went to Showdown, builded the core, with the attacks, natures and abilitys evertything.

- Then i wanted to start breed the first of the Core - Arcanine, gentle nature.
Went, started breeding, ive breeded with a ditto with a non-matching nature. The guy always told me they dont seem to like eachother and a egg came very rarely...how come? i thought ditto can pair with everyone well?

- Even if i get an arcanine with the right nature and right ability its never female (it has 25% percent chane of bein F)
-Even if nature and ability are right, id have to breed hours to get a perfect 31 IV pokemon (since i dont have a 31*6 ditto....)
-Even if i get that....where to go after the core? i'd have to know every counter for every freakn pokemon and so on, how should a beginnger start of there?

My main question:

HOW THE HELL SHOULD A BEGINNER GET INTO COMPETITIVE? this absolutely scares me off, confuses me, and make me want to quit right away...

I guess building a prefect 31 iv team, with breed attacks is quiet impossible for me atm as a begginer isnt it?

SO how should I start off? Just build a team with wack-ass IV get my ass pwned and be frustrated too?

How did you guys start off, as you diddnt had any idea of competitive?

Since I've read about 50 tutorials, threads and 101's on teambuilding, battling mechanics and every freakin thing on earth about competitive, Im not lookin for more tutorials, but simple Tips and adivses where to start off as a newbie, and what to expect, or what not to expect as a beginner?!

Thanks right away, for ever Answer and help!

1. Pokemon breed better when both parents have different trainer IDs.

2. Gentle is a bad nature in competitive play because it doesn't do anything beneficial. Lowering a defensive stat in exchange for increasing another isn't good.

3. Slowbro generally outperforms Slowking in competitive play mainly because the former has the Defense to take advantage of its resistances. Slowking has the advantage of dealing with Keldeo and Latios better, however.

4. Learn about tiers. Two of the Pokemon you mentioned are usable in OU (the main competitive tier), while one isn't (for your reference, Amoonguss and Slowking are usable there, while Arcanine isn't).

5. You can't expect to counter every threat in a single team. You'll have to take into account the most prominent ones.

6. Look in this forum here: http://www.smogon.com/forums/forums/competitive-discussion.249/ They have discussions about each respective tier.

7. Read each Pokemon's analysis for viable movesets and what to use with them as a starting point.
