Has anyone ever noticeed the strange and unique ways that some pokemon move. Spheal for instances rolls around (which my bro thinks is hilarious and uses it to describe our cat :S). Jigglypuff floats, tumbles and rolls, whilst wurmple's legs rotate. Also some pokemon like Azurill (and evolutions) have things to help maintain travelling (i.e. in water for Azurill their talils are floats). Though many pokemon...just roll. Like Spheal, Voltorb, Electrode, Igglybuff, Jigglypuff. and pokemon like Gollum and Graveller roll to attack. One thing that really puzzles me is how on earth a pokemon as heavy as Geodude floats?....:S It's defing gravity! lol no complaints, just compelling mystery :p

Geodude floating was always a mystery... along with gigantic Dragonite in Bill's lighthouse episode. Also the appearance of Mewtwo on Bill's lighthouse door is a complete mystery... like Mewtwo is not even created back then? Even if it is, no one except Giovanni pretty much is suppose to see a face of Mewtwo yet survived/still maintained their memory... Pokemon is always full of weird and strange stuff.

Yea I dont get how Geodude floats but I mean how is it going to walk? On its hands? But if it was like that then how would it battle. XD
Well about the Mewtwo thing. Its like the movies is not in step with episodes, like if Ash saw a Pokemon on the movie he forgets it in the episodes. Im thinking this is the same way with Mewtwo (I never saw the episode with Bill), Mew is 151 and Dragonite is 149 looks like Mew would be Mew would be 150 and Mewtwo 151 since Mewtwo is a clone. Any way im getting off topic here. XD

Why geodude floats, why magnemite floats...
I want to know too!
Gengar, Mewtwo, Jynx, Latios, Latias accasionally floats...but that's because they are psychic.
But...how do the others float?
I'm finally back...after 5 years XD
lol, aren't my Jynx da cutest Jynx you have seen?

So do Koffing and Weezing...
Maybe the gas inside them are lighter than air?
Well if you check out one of the pokedexs (can't rememer which one) it says that what you said is exactly how they float. Also look at their pokedex entries. Koffing weighs barely anything for it's size (I think around 2 lbs)... though Weezing is about 21 lbs so I guess a lot of gas :p)

I think it was in the Pokemon Silver game entry and it states: "The poisonous gases it contains are a little bit lighter than air, keeping it slightly airborne."

I think that's the most you'll get as an official explaintion:P.

ahem... the idea of 21lb of "gas lighter than air" bugs me a bit still...

Thank goodness Magnemite/ton didn't inherit "levitate" ability regardless to the fact that they do float ^_^
Unfortunately, Gengar did. That thing is very evil now. ._.

true... Gengar has only ghost as its physical weakness, with psychic/dark as its other weakness... Absol or Zangoose will have to be your best friend now...

but the RBY ghost family are all gas as well... makes sense that they are capable of floating (unlike some other heavy gas ball ._.)

Lol, and Stadium makes it seem even more unrealistic. =/
Just as how all water Pokmon float in air, but I'm sure you guys touched on that.
I agree, how does Wailord even fight? I guess I can understand it rolling over their opponents as an attack but why does it float in the air?

Nevermind, I just found out Wailord's species is called "Floating Whale Pokemon"...rofl! But I still don't understand why they have the ability to float, unless they have untapped psychic abilities.

I always thought that Wailord is in the shape of a blimp ^_^;

Mantine is flying but if you look at the pokedex, it's flying only because it swims so fast that it glides far on surface, AS IF flying. So really... it can't fly... (plus what the heck... it's speed isn't that good is it? If Mantine is classified to fly like that, I'm sure Jolteon is pretty much walking above the ground or something?)

Surfing may involve with checking with the original attack name of "surf" in japanese first, to see if it really means surf or just some form of wave attack or something. That may matter a lot.

As for Aerodactyl, well in the ancient times flying creatures are obviously not made of rock but they do weigh somewhere near Aerodactyl. They are completely capable of flying but however, their wings were much larger in order to fly... but I won't go into detail about the porportions of the wing and etc... like technically no Pokemon can use gust regardless of wings or not. If you want to whip out a tornado with several flap of feathers, how strong of muscles do you need is completely beyond calculations.

To Atsuji's question on how gyarados might be able to fly, I noticed that Gyarados is a kind of dragon/serpent, which might explain why he was a flying type (although it cannot use the HM move fly).
About Wailord...hmm...I dunno? *everyone falls down*

Hmmm aerodactyl the flying rock :p it doesn't look as rocky as onix and geodude though. I never getr pokemon that are a type that would mean they would normally be weak against themselves. Like Chinchou and omanyte. Rock weak against water and water weak against electric :S
