odd disgucussion.. o.O

Well anyway, how does a legendary bird keep itself int he air without flapping hmm? In the second pokemon movie at one point lugia is hovering, yet only flapping once ever few seconds... Lets just put it down to them being magical maybe. But geodude? I never liked this pokemon. I would be better if i walked on its hands me thinks.
But then think about this, if pokemon where reel, most of them wouldnt be able to move at all. Even charizard couldnt walk of fly. Its legs are to wide apart and too stubby for it to walk, and its wings are in a positioning and a shape making it impossible to fly. *shrugs*..they are only made up monsters and so these things are allowed. :P

I realise the whole cancelling out thing, it just seems kinda illogical. I guess the pokemon just have a natural immunity to themselves :S

Hajime, I don't know if you've ever noticed, but birds like eagles hover when looking for prey, and they don't flap their wings. They do this but finding a certian air current, and their wings act to control where they are with slight movements. I hope this is the same with Lugia etc, it's how paraglides work too with out any method of propelling. I don't think charizards legs are too short. Remember crocodiles legs are short, maybe they use that mechanism of movement.

There's a bird called Kingfisher that can hover in the air without going forwards and backwards or flapping its wings.
So for Lugia's place, I'm not surprised.
I'm finally back...after 5 years XD

first of all, if that Pokemon can learn psychic, then perhaps it can bend logic a bit by using the excuse "psychic powers make it possible". Lugia may possibly use psychic to hold itself up in the air for example...

Eagles do ride air currents to "fly" without flapping their wings but they can never stay in the air IN THE SAME SPOT without flapping their wings, which is what Lugia is doing in that case.

true psychic, but some bird can stay in the same spot without flapping there wings constantly, which was my point. Of course the occasionally flap to balance and keep in the air, but Lugia does do this if I recall correctly. Reason why I related it to that of a bird of prey, though kestrels do this more evidently as they are smaller. It's like they are hanging in the air, it's really weird.
