I got an eevee, and I will not evolve it until the Johto pokemon comes out so I can evolve it into Umbreon.

Chances are you'll find more Eevee, plus the CP boost that the Eeveelutions get is really high so they're very popular in gyms right now. Also, you need 25 Eevee Candy to even evolve it so... you're gonna need to catch a lot more Eevee regardless lol.

Honestly the only competitive Eeveelution right now is Vaporeon.

Has the highest base HP by far, has the highest CP scaling, and actually attacks just as fast as Jolteon and hits harder.

Between a Vaporeon and Jolteon of equal CP, the Vaporeon can actually win even if it's controlled by AI, which is saying something.

Also Jolteon scales the worst in terms of CP. Flareon is relatively average (approximately 2.5x). All the current Eeveelutions I have were evolved when the Eevees were around CP620-650. Vaporeon started around CP1750, Jolteon around CP1250 and Flareon around CP1500.

Right now my Vaporeon is nearly CP1900 and can solo 2-3 consecutive CP1300-1400 Pokémon before going down. It's a joke.

I had similar feelings but basically we have no idea how long it'll be until Gen 2 Pokémon are released so it's hard to feel like we won't easily get 25 Eevee candy again by the end of next week, let alone by the time that Gen 2 happens. I think it's pretty safe to evolve the Eevee now, especially if you are interested in Pokédex completion, but if you save all the Eevee candy up for Gen 2 then you could at least get a super buffed Umbreon as soon as it's out!

As others have pointed out, Eevee is fairly common. You should end up with a lot of Eevee's.... so, while your passion is admirable, I think you may as well play the game. Just my opinion.

I agree. As we're on the topic, can anyone confirm if the second attack determines what the eevee will evolve into?
It doesn't. As Aero alluded to, the only way we currently know of to guarantee your Eevee evolution is to nickname them as follows before evolving them:

Sparky: Jolteon
Rainer: Vaporeon
Pyro: Flareon
Fenrir---------------------Svetlana-------------------Blaine

I can confirm that the Eevee's moves do not determine its evolution. So far I've evolved two Eevee with Swift - one went into Jolteon and the other went into Flareon. They're right about the nicknames though, those have been rigorously tested and shown to work.
