So as I posted over at the welcome lounge I just recently purchased Pokémon Yellow for 3DS. My question is if I want to play the games in a somewhat chronological order. Yellow>Soul Silver>OmegaR/AlphaS> Not sure where it goes from there honestly. It's hard to figure it out with all the remakes. If someone could give me a road map that would be fantastic.

My main question is how could I do this and be able to take all of my pokémon from one game to the next? I've heard of the Pokémon bank but it seems it only works with certain games.

I'm buying the games digital unless there's something that would benefit me from doing otherwise. Thanks all.

Hi there Nismo :)

I guess if you only have a 3ds the order you'll have to play the games will be Yellow>Diamond/Pearl>Platinum(not compulsory) >SoulSilver/HeartGold>Black/White>Black 2/White 2>X/Y>Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire

Although, anything that comes after Yellow and before X or Y on that list will have to be purchased in physical form as digital copies are not available for the DS Pokemon games.

Just head down to your local game store and you should be able to buy some in the pre-owned games section, though they can be really expensive...especially HeartGold/SoulSilver...

Concerning transferring your Pokemon, you'll need two different systems to do that with most of the games but you can transfer Pokemon from Black/White and Black 2/White 2 to X, Y, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire using the Poke transporter. Also Pokemon from your Yellow Version can be transported to the upcoming games Sun and Moon with the use of Pokemon Bank.

Thanks for the detailed reply Sap!

So if I wanted to keep all of my pokémon using 1 system I would have to skip to ORAS and X/Y using the Pokémon bank? More than anything I'd prefer to be able to keep everything if it means skipping a few games. I know Gen 1 will transfer to Sun/Moon. I guess what I'm asking is what games will transfer to Sun/Moon so I can not feel like I'm losing progress

Starting from the 3rd Generation (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/FireRed/LeafGreen), you can transfer your Pokemon up to X/Y/OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire, and then up to Sun/Moon. The only exception to that is the Pokemon you have on the Virtual Console release of Red/Blue/Yellow. Since you only have one system, then you can only transfer up from Yellow.

If you want to play the game in chronological order of the storyline, it goes like this:

Yellow/OmegaRuby (take place at the same time) -> SoulSilver/Platinum (take place at the same time and Platinum is the best way to go to play the Sinnoh games) -> Black/White -> Black2/White2/X/Y (take place at the same time)

Any Pokemon that you have in XY or Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire will be transferable to Sun and Moon and yeah with one system you would have to skip to those games, or Black/White and Black 2/White 2.
