For those of you who aren't aware, Pokévision is a popular website which lets you scan an area of the world (ie your local village!) and check which Pokémon are currently around there, their exact locations and accurate timers on how long they'll be there for. I won't link it as I'm not sure I'm comfortable with it being used right now, but if you want to find it you can do so easily via Google. Some people think of using this website as cheating whereas others are calling it "fair game" whilst the infamous 3-step glitch reigns supreme, and others will just use it regardless.

What do you think about this service? Do you use Pokévision yourself and what've you found whilst using it? Do you consider it cheating? Would you judge others for using it?

I've been to the page and snooped around my area and, honestly, it's doesn't seem overly useful to me.
Oh look, a pidgey waaaay over that way and a weedle waaaay over the other way.
I'd find more just by taking my dog on a walk.

So I looked at downtown of the neighbouring big city.
Oh, take a step and trip over five non-basic Pokémon (probably with halfway decent CP, too).

Why bother with PokéVision if Pokémon are everywhere? Why bother with it if they're few and far between? I guess it would only be useful if I was looking for something specific and wasn't gonna go out unless it was on the map.
My hypothetical Galar team:
Spoiler:
Rillaboom, Toxtricity, Grimmsnarl, Coalossal, Polteageist, Frosmoth

Type combos I desire:
Grass / Fire
A real Grass / Electric
A proper Grass / Rock

yes i like grass type what of it

It's pretty hit or miss since it depends on the stability of Niantic's servers. And even if you do spot something of interest on the map, you still have to do the rest of the work to track it down (though it does drastically cut down your navigational work).

It is very useful while the footprint bug is still unresolved. I doubt I'll use it once the bug is fixed as it's a small hassle to continuously swap between apps on the phone to double check positioning.

The site was down when I checked now, ahha. But I'd like to try it out, I think. It's really annoying that there's a footsteps bug now ); Not sure this would really help much though; the same pokémon would still be shown in my vicinity despite the bug, right? So basically it's still "cheating". Or rather, using other resources hehe.

I mean, you can think of it as someone telling you where they found everything.

Social media groups exist where people within a common region just shout out what they find. For example, NYC has a Facebook group where people regularly post what they found a minute ago so those who happen to be nearby can scurry over and get their own. Or they share "nest" spots where specific Pokémon regularly show up at certain times of the day.

Or would that be cheating as well?

Tried to access it, but it's down for maintenance right now. I'll try again later.

I assume it's like the other maps going around though, albeit a bit more accurate. I would probably use this, and certainly wouldn't consider it cheating, especially considering the tracking system is broken. However, my town has a FB page that's really active and has all but mapped out where you can get what, so it's more or less just that without the social aspect.

It does go down a lot yes haha. Personally I have been using it a bit whilst the footprints glitch is up but it's honestly pretty tough finding the actual Pokémon with it. Might just be because my village is basically a giant maze but it can be tough to even find half of the Pokémon around here once you see them on the map. I've used it to track down a couple of nearby Pokémon around my road but it just doesn't feel feasible to get anything more than a couple of roads away with it. I do consider it cheating honestly but more just "cheating for the sake of it" rather than to get super far ahead because it really isn't that effective.

PokeVision is a pokemon locator for pokemon go. Basicly it shows pokemon near you. But is it cheating? Well some people call PokeVision the 3 step fix, but in my opinion its not cheating. I think it will be cheating once the 3 step glitch is fixed.
What do you guys think? Is it cheating?

I think it depends on how purist you want to be, ultimately it's just a game and however you play if that's how you get enjoyment out of it that's how you should play. Unless it involves trolling and bullying other players that's where my tolerance
stops.

Wait, so this is something that shows in real time where Pokemon are?

Yeah, I feel like that's cheating.

I like the user-sourced sites that try to give a heads up, like, "I captured a Charizard here yesterday!" So that you can slowly assemble a better idea of where certain spawn points may be. But just seeing everything in real-time, that's... that's not cool.

Do you think it's still bad to use whilst the 3-step glitch is active? (ie, see a nearby shadow then track it on PokéVision as you can't track it based on the 'nearby' section) Or do you think that doesn't change anything?

I really don't consider it cheating at all, and when it's up, I use it.

It's not like I'm going to search some far-away area to see what's there and then be able to make it to said place within the minutes they are spawning there anyway. I only really use it around my home since the three-step glitch started happening. That way I can still track them down if they're nearby without needlessly heading off in the wrong direction many times and missing out. I don't see much of a difference, really.

I really like Pokevison. It has been helpful for me.

Walking around aimlessly and trying to find the Pokemon I haven't caught yet is part of the fun, but it can be frustrating and tiring, especially since it has been extremely hot in my area for the past couple of days.

I will still go on random walking adventures, but Pokevision does help to make finding new Pokemon easier.

I get why people want a workaround for that. Any sort of distance system where you actually have to triangulate and hunt for the position is the far better option, imo. But I'm not trying to be stuck up about it or anything, so it would feel like cheating *to me*, but I wouldn't judge someone using it right now given that the footprint system is broken.

I've been thinking of using it myself. I personally don't go to populated areas that have pokestops/gyms. It's always in my area (which has two gyms and two pokestops in my community. One is a church, the other our community public park).

And I'm desperate to find certain pokemon honestly mostly Eevees, (which says that they are local in residential areas, which is where I am at) and geodudes. It's a hit and miss for me right now because of the step glitch. :/ But I woudn't mind trying it out. It's not cheating to me. It's just a form with pokemon spawns. It's the same as whipping out a pokedex in game, to find a pokemon you sighted?

Gotta say the downtime on this is starting to get a bit irritating! I've started using PokéVision more often now as the three-step glitch is just making it far too difficult to fairly track down new Pokémon but I can't say it's the most useful thing either in itself - not sure if the maps of my area are just a bit wonky or something but the Pokémon listed are very rarely actually in the spots they say, but instead usually turn up 2 or 3 minutes walk away which is often far enough to let it despawn. Do you guys get this problem too?

for it to work well you need lots of other people in your area using it at the same time but is definately really useful, it helps you find where rare spawning locations are. Only problem is it shows a very small area around where you scan so you need lots of people scanning different spots so its easy to miss things.
For me its not cheating, firstly you still have to go out and actually go the location where the pokemon is. Secondly even if it shows a pokemon in your nearby that doesnt mean you will easily find it on pokevision and finally it needs teamwork to use effectively so to me thats in the spirit of the game ;)
