It's just an excuse for Game Freak to stop thinking of new designs and please the genwunners.
These are new designs. I mean, for the foxes it's mostly a palette swap, but for the others they are new designs.
Besides, you can't please genwunners with re-designed Gen 1 Pokemon, that interferes with their opinions about only the first designs being any good.
If it's any consolation, I don't think it's going to be an issue of "an excuse to think of new designs" anyway. Think of the Alolan forms as extras. I predict it will not have an affect on the number of actual new Gen 7 Pokemon.

we allready have a seal evolution line.
Popplio is the "Sea Lion Pokemon." Not a seal.

I hope GF will give some love for the 5th gen Pokes. I don't want all the Alola Form to be on 1st gen Pokes. Come on it's the 20th anniversary of the franchise and that includes gen 2 to 6.
I agree, we got ONE 5th Gen Mega, which was Audino (and it was a terrible choice). I'd like to see some new forms for my favourite mons like maybe a rock type Conkeldurr or a ground type Stoutland.
I agree with you two, since I love Unova (although Alola is now threatening to dethrone it as my fave region) and it's such a shame to see 5th Gen getting shafted so much, and while Mega Audino isn't badly designed I can see why people think it was a wasted choice for a Mega. Hopefully we'll get Alola Forms for Pokemon outside of 1st Gen because there's so many ideas that could get used.

EDIT: by the way, I also agree with the posters above asking for more love for gen 5 Pokemon. Only one Mega was fairly pathetic, and I hope they don't get shafted for Alolan forms. I wanna see what kind of cool stuff they could come up with for my favorite gen 5 mon, Volcarona, which curiously has an islandish theme already?

I feel the same way. What is even the point of this? It's just an excuse for Game Freak to stop thinking of new designs and please the genwunners. They could have just made new pokemon but they got to lazy. I can see why they did this though. Have you seen some of the new pokemon designs? XD. I absolutely love gen 5 but I thought it had the worst starters but I think we have a new contender. Rowlet is pretty good so I won't argue with that. Forgot the water starters name but we allready have a seal evolution line. What the hell even is Litten? (Apart from a Cat).

I think Sun & Moon will be pretty good games but some of the new features are really bad or good ideas that were poorly executed but I'm hoping the full game can change my opinion but so far it won't be easy.
I have mixed feelings about the Pokemon design overall, but I do for every gen, ya know? I think the designs revealed thus far have been fairly imaginative tbh, besides this stuff.

I'm excited for the games in spite of my criticizing some of its features. The game overall looks great. I can't help but feel miffed at the further genwunner pandering after XY had it in spades, and I wish later generations saw attention as well. That's really my gripe, gen 1 as a whole receives all this care and attention while the others that aren't the brand new and shiny stuff are left in the dust. That and I'm almost becoming the anti-genwunner because the oversaturation makes me sick and tired of it, lolol. (I guess I'm starting to be part of the problem now but idgaf.)

Don't be butthurt because someone dared shared an unfavorable opinion on something you like. This isn't an academic art forum or about politics, this is about fictional monsters for a video game aimed at children. What do they need to be "informed" about? Who cares what weight their opinions hold for people other than themselves?

I know Cubone and Marowak having an Alola form could happen, since Kiawe's bio mention is partner being a Marowak despite Kiawe being a Fire-type specialist. That could likely signal a possible Alola form for it that's a Fire-type.

Who said I like Popplio? Worry not, it has nothing to do with conflicting opinions or "butthurt." I was only correcting them: Popplio is not a seal but a sea lion. I am not out of line by correcting such a fact about its species.
I don't think it's too much to ask that our users know the basics about a Pokemon (e.g. its name) before they make an argument against it.

I think it's because people can't tell the difference between seals and sea lions on most occasions. That's likely why they mistakenly call Popplio a "seal" because sea lions are the ones that have the ears like Popplio but people maybe haven't seen enough pictures to tell the difference.

I would like to further my idea about the Tauros everyone is talking about. I now see that it was not the one in the trailer people were talking about, but the overheard art we got of the humans and pokemon living together.

It is the lighting in that specific area. It doesn't show up like this anywhere else, because that is where the sun and shining to me. If you look at the Mudsdale in front of it, it is also significantly lighter than its original art. Again, I think they were trying to capture the realism in the art for that picture.

Totally understandable.
I would have had trouble identifying that too, if it wasn't listed as the Sea Lion Pokemon explicitly.

  • Dragon Dance
  • Swords Dance
  • Lunar Dance (lol, copying this)
  • Featherdance (idk if this counts?)
  • Petal Dance
  • Teeter Dance
  • Fiery Dance

I'm not sure if Oricorio can copy every dance move, but that's about the gist of it, from what I know. I don't know if it just copies status dance moves or also whether or not it copies offensive dance moves also (a la Fiery Dance and Petal Dance).
I am thinking that it copies dance moves that increase its stats. It would make a bit more sense that way at least to me.

At least Marowak. Cubone could remain the same like Exeggute. Though I think it'll go the route of Vulpix, and Sandshrew.

I have been wondering something... do you think we'll get Alolan versions of legendaries? Perhaps a Deoxys landed in Alola and got exposed to even stronger sunlight than the Hoenn counterpart. Or maybe it clashed into the icy mountain and became Psychic/Ice.

Tyyyyypically Pokemon games don't concentrate on any other legendaries except the featured ones for that particular generation.
Historically, I mean.
e.g. Ho-oh and Lugia and the canine trio were the focus of Gold/Silver - and while other legendaries existed, no attention was drawn to them.
Wouldn't you agree?

It's possible. I suppose if legendaries can receive mega evolutions then Alola legendaries could also be a thing. There seems to be a heavy emphasis on older Pokemon for S/M, particularly with the Kanto Pokemon. I'm not sure whether it has anything to do with the fact that you can trasnfer the Pokemon from the RBY eShop titles, but if any of the legendaries were to receive Alolan forms then I'd say it would be the legendary Kanto birds.

It has already been said that Zygarde is going to play a somewhat large role in the games if I am not mistaken. So it is possible and and wouldn't surprise me if they connected some of the older legends.

Lugia is the main one that comes to mind as it has popped up in every Archipelago in all Pokemon in one fashion or another other than the Decolore Archipelago.

Based on the recent leaks, it seems most of the Alola Form are dominated by gen 1 Pokemon. Let's hope for other Pokemon to have further improvement in the game.
Here are just some of the Pokemon that I think needed some form of improvement:
1. Sunflora
2. Dunsparce
3. Butterfree
4. Kingler
5. Delibird
6. Liligant
7. Heatmor
8. Durant
9. Mega Hydreigon (my fav Pokemon :-) )
10. Final form of 6th gen starters that is equal to Ash's greninja. (Come on, Delphox and Chesnaught need some ummmmmh too.)
Active Pokemon breeder. I've got plenty 5IVs leftover Pokes from my previous breeding sessions. PM if you need/want 5IVs Pokes.

Ps: Depends on availability of the desired Pokes.

Please god no :(

Alola form Pikachu would be cool, but I can't deal with Raichu being ignored again.
I mean, I'll be honest. I'm tired of all this gen 1 pandering but Raichu deserves this. In a perfect world, there would be just regular Pikachu that evolved into some magnificent Alola Raichu. But my gosh, after all this time... They couldn't even give poor Raichu a Mega! I hate to say it but I've become so jaded that I can't imagine them being more kind this time around. I can't even fathom what an Alola Raichu would look like, much less its Type...

I hope GF will give some love for the 5th gen Pokes. I don't want all the Alola Form to be on 1st gen Pokes. Come on it's the 20th anniversary of the franchise and that includes gen 2 to 6.
Really though, this is the main problem I've had with this all along. Is this really the celebration of the series's 20th anniversary or is it just yet another celebration of only gen 1?

These are new designs. I mean, for the foxes it's mostly a palette swap, but for the others they are new designs.

As much as I want to believe this, look at how many actual new Pokémon we got in gen 6.

This is me except I've been sick of the gen1er pandering since long ago. It just seems to get worse and worse as time goes on which is the most baffling thing to me...

There is so much I could say about this but I'll just give you the basics.

Alola forms show little change. Allola executor just gets longer and more derpy. How does that help him adapt?

So what if it is a sea lion it is a very similar species and this isn't some exam.

And as someone else said this isn't some important meeting with the primer minister or something like that, I'm just a stranger (to you) on the internet giving you a pretty valid opinion. I shouldn't have to inform you of every little detail this is a pokemon forum page.

The leaks of last month mentioned that their would be aola forms of current existing pokémon and they would have diffrent types as well. It mentioned a white pidove so that would indicate that we might get aola forms not only from kanto , al though these leaks weren't 100% correct it did get a lot of stuff right. We can only hope.

Maybe we'll get a Pidove for each island. Darwin is remembered for Finches, but the animal he breed the most was the Pidgin.

You know, this stuff about Alola forms reminds me of a theory that Gible line evolved over time from the Carvanah line. Given the changes of some of the Pokémon introduced to Alola (like Vulpix and Ninetails) in the past, it's possible that with enough time Pokémon could become entirely different species. There's also the theory that Bastiodon's family gave rise to the Aggron family over time.

I don't think it would be Pidove, especially not different per island. Remember that Pidove looks different based on gender and a Pidove is also already mainly white. I don't think it would be the one to be used. It isn't a big enough change and it would require 4 additional designs if it changed per island.

I am more inclines to believe that we would be an Alolan Noctowl and Pidgey before Pidove.

It doesn't help him adapt. He just grows taller because there is more sun light. You don't even need a video to explain that because it is explained in a few words on the English Pokemon site and the Japanese site.

Desert palm trees are short and stocky, tropical palm trees are stupid tall. That's why it makes sense for Alolan Exeggutor to be super tall and skinny.

On a tropical coast, monsoons and tidal waves would cause damage to smaller foliage. That is why tropical palm trees adapted the way they did. Alolan Exeggutor is just following real life tropical plant adaption. It has very little to do with sunlight and much more to do with coastal weather.

Although it's totally possible that the Pokemon designers did not think that far and were simply designing it tall because tropical palm trees are tall. Both are fine.
