Well, I wanted to ask you a question: why do you have to sign up for changing your name?
What's the point of it?
I know it would be a lot of work for the admins to change the users' name's, but we actually have 11 (!) people with admin powers here.
Why do we need so many of them, if they haven't much administrative things to do?

Look, I don't mind losing my posts when signing up for a new name, but the load of multiple accounts is confusing like hell.
(Not everybody is posting in the name change thread)
Another fact, which is annoying me, that you lose all your rep and most people think you are new.
You have to PM your friends about your change and so on.

I also feel it's kinda like faking PCs number of members a bit, isn't it?

Don't you have any better solution for the name change thingie?
Like creating a new usergroup for "Name changers" or just promoting someone to do it...

You could make rules for it like only allowing people to change their names every few months or something.

So, what do you think?
Would you maybe change your opinion concerning that topic?

Ummmm...XD I'm sorry, I think you might be confused. ^^; The Name Change Thread is for people to announce that they have changed their names themselves. i.e. - they logged out, and re-registered under a different username. ^^;

The PC staff doesn't do the name changes themselves, like other forums might. If you wish to change your name, then just log out and register again with a new one. <.<

Sooooooooooo, unless I read you wrong, then I'm afraid you're just a bit confused. ^^; All the Name Change Thread does is allow members to let their friends know they have changed names. ^^

I have to agree.

Although some don't mind about losing their postcount or rep, but others might find it hurtful to start from scratch again. Not to mention, like pika2000 said, you might get confused of being a newbie.

And besides, is it so hard to change a name? And if a name change thread is made, you can put a requirement that the person must put on his/her sig what was the old name. And also put a time-waiting period to change name again (For example, at SPPf, you must wait 2 months after a name change to have another).

I AM considering to change my name sometime on the future, but not by making a new account!

Those were my 2 cents.

I don't see any use for the poll. It's not going to happen anyway.

Trade Post Count & Rep = New User Name.
We see this as a good trade. If you really want a new user name then you will give up your rep and post count for it. It's always been like this (for the 2 and a half years PC has been running it's always been this way). But everyone should put a little thought into your username. I mean I've had "Arcanine" for over two years, Erica (Lightning), Tommy (tmbjr) and D (Dakota) and a few other members has had their user name even longer then me. If a little thought was put into a name then you would be sticking with that name for a long time.

I believe if you have so-many quality posts, you should be allowed to have your name changed. Like, 1000+ posts otherwise we'd have 10 post n00bs changing their name every 10 minutes. Or maybe a 1 time name change or something. Or once every X posts... Oh well

I would like to see name changes be able to be done. But maybe like once a year, maybe only one time? Not anything like once a month or one every three months. One a year sounds reasonable, I would think.
If that happened, a thing I would like to see would be a rule that says you have to have in your signature for like atleast 3 months or something that says who you formerly were like say I changed my name, then in my sig I would have to have "Formerly: PiroMunkie" or something like that, to let everyone know everytime they see me post.

Kels... she's suggesting ways how allowing name changes would be able to work.
Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, Ty, no need to SPAM up the thread by embarassing me. XD

Well then, I guess now that I understand more clearly, I always was used to SPPf's way of allowing admins to change the names for members...buuuuuuuut, I shouldn't be talking since I'm not an admin anyways. XD

But then, seeing how often some members change names, it sure as heck would be an awful lot of work to do...I dunno. I'll stop here and add more later when I think of more opinions. XD

...I thought we were trying NOT to confuse members?
Ok lets look back at the old PE2K. They used to have ProBoards (yea I know, no need to say how bad it is XD) and on PB you can change your name. Everyone was getting mixed up on names, wondering who is who. Even with all their posts there it was still confusing to all the members.

Which is where the time limit would come in. ;P In reality, changing a member's name is as easy as 1-2-3.

But that's where the time limit lies. Which would you find more confusing - a new member signing up without telling anybody that they changed them name from so-and-so, or an existing member posting in the name change thread so others can see what their original name was before it was changed?

There are many other cases in which the person's name was changed and nothing else happened, but let's not get into that. The fact of the matter is that the only way to maintain fairness is to allow name changes. =X
That's to "maintain fairness"? We (higher Staff) has turned down countless members on asking for a name change. Is that fair to them members that we turned down? We have been the same on name changes for 2 and a half years and everyone got by just fine.

Mmhmm. If those members are still around, then they could ask for a name change, should her idea go through.

I'm just saying... you do it for some, then it's only fair to do it for all. =X
As far as I know no one did any name changes. But Jake was the only one that changed his own name.

I agree with every single word. Would'nt it better if each member only had one chance to change their name, or more?.

Pika2000, we do a lot of work around PC, so it shouldn't be a case of "ooh! let's find more work for the admins!" as you've posed in your argument..
The 10 of us who do have access cannot be on all the time due to other responsibilities outside of PC, especially when you consider that the number is cut due to limited time to visit by other admins..

Changing names is so much easier than having to change many hundreds of accounts (especially given that there are only 10 of us), just because the person doesn't want to lose their post count and reputation..post count and rep shouldn't matter to anyone, and if you really want to change your name then those factors should be the least of your worries. You only have to have your old username in your signature for a while if you want people to know who you are, which you would have to do anyway if you changed names.
Sorry, but for the sake of post count (which shouldn't be important anyway), making us change what could be hundreds of accounts would not be worth it.

I think it would be good if you could change your username, it would save all these accounts that nobody uses, and the amount of PMs the Admins must get "OMG change my un" and such, although I have never felt I wanted to change my username, I know alot have.
I do not have enough time for PC anymore, it is a sorry affair but I haven't been active in a long time. I do not have many friends still here at PC but if you are one that is still please feel free to contact me via msn.

The only changes Ive seen are from members whove made a spelling mistake while signing up or who wanted some junky symbols removed from their names. (_ * ~) And I dont see those very often. One should think hard about coming up with their username to make sure their not going to get bored of it anytime soon. I use Lord Jaws wherever I go, unless youre not allowed spaces or something. Then it becomes LordJaws. My nick developed over a bit of time sure, but I ended up sticking with this because I liked it. So anywhere I was known as something else I just had to start again. Its part of the deal if you ask me.

Think of it this way everybody- we have around 8000 members at PC. If one person is allowed a name change, there's a potential 8000 people that will bug admins for a name change. Even though it won't be anything that close, it's still alot of work, and sets the stage for more drama than we need at PC. The Admins do alot of work at PC, and dealing with something as trivial as this is a waste of their time.
