Andy, you know as well as I do that Jake is by no means the only one.

Claire- Once again, the time limit. x.x; Why not make the six-month limit apply to everyone?

Also, no offence or anything, but changing names is pretty easy. Just click the person's profile, click User Options, type the new name in the username field, and then click "Save". ^^;

A time limit? So they actually have to keep track of them when they ask for a change too?

Pika2000, we do a lot of work around PC, so it shouldn't be a case of "ooh! let's find more work for the admins!" as you've posed in your argument..
The 10 of us who do have access cannot be on all the time due to other responsibilities outside of PC, especially when you consider that the number is cut due to limited time to visit by other admins.
Maybe the staff should hire a few people dedicated to changing names and see how this goes, just give it a try.

Hey, I've got to agree with Ty & COM. I've been a sub-admin at another forums and changing user names is pretty easy. We should give that option to members who have atleast 500 posts. Also you can have a price. For Changing Names, you lose 100 posts and 500 Rep or something like that.

Imakuni:It would be a heavy security breech to hire people just to change names >.<
You could just give them permission to edit usernames. make a custom usergroup.

I think this would be good if someone made a mistake in there name and then tha admins could change it for them cuz theres no use starting with a new name XD

We do edit names Kimi. If someone joined and made a typo in their username then we do edit user names (if you did "rika_chan" where it should have been "Rika-Chan" we will edit it).

I voted no. o.o;; As already mentioned, if Admins decided to start changing peoples names instead of them re-registering, then 99% of PC would be pestering the Admins constantly begging for a name change. ~.~; Admins do enough work as it is. Besides, its not that hard to just re-register. o.o;;; If you're concerned about rep and post count, then dont be. ^^; They're just a bunch of numbers and stuff, and they dont really mean a thing. Just earn them back~ o.o

It's not only rep and postcount, it's your posts in general, and join date.

We could enable usernotes for all members, and then have staff post in it when the member has a change. Easier to keep track of that way. It would also help when it comes to deciding bans/warnings/promotions for that particular member, instead of having to run an IP check, which might result in mistaking that member for somebody else. x.x;

That would be an answer to keeping track, but the enormous thought of having to deal with so many changes. Even if they are only every 6 months, imagine how many people would want a change from the start? We do a lot of work anyway, and the thought of having to change usernames just for the sake of people not having to leave their old username in their sig is really not much of a deal ^^;
There are 8,126 members. Even if half were active, that would still be 4000. Even if only half wanted some kind of change that would be 2000 people @[email protected] for the sake of leaving an old username in a sig, it would save us so much more work given that we do have other commitments and not all admincp accessors are as active as others..

I have a idea. Would it be a good idea to do something like first come, first served. Like you will do name changes for like the first 50 members who ask once every 6 months. Would that work.

That wouldn't work because it wouldn't be fair to the 51st person and after.

Not even 1/10th of PC members visit on a regular basis. ^^;

Basically, people change their username when they lose interest in what inspired their username. Re-registering means they would lose, not just their postcount, but all their posts in general, all the reputation they recieved for their posts (yes, some rep is deserved... XD), their join date, and soforth. It also means they'll have to make another e-mail account, which can be quite a nuisance. x.x;

As much as I would love to vote on this, theres no answer appropriate for what I feel. I believe there should be name changes, but only if theyre justified, such as spelling errors.

I have mixed opinions on this...
I agree with Andy, a person should put thought into their name, so they wind up keeping it. Should you become so attached to your name you don't want to give it up, there's no problem.
Allowing name changes would only cause more work for the admins, as it's been said many times before, and the last thing they need is more work from something as small as a name change.
Of course, for some people, losing rep and post count etc..is bad, and some may even feel as if all the work they put into their first name will mean nothing if they reregister, but that's not true either. Think about it, unless your account was deleted or something, it would still be under the members list and you could still stare in awe of it all. Changing names is not as bad as some people say it is.
Sure, you do have to get a new email, but considering how easy it is now, 2-3 minutes should be worth your time. Supposing of course, you want the name change as bad as you say. You can't expect the Admins to just change your name for you if you can't be expected to take 3 minutes to get a new email and reregister here at PC It's not hard.

~I made no sense whatsoever, and I accept that. I'm done rambling now ^^;;
I got bored today, during my computer lit class, and began to wonder....who are you people!!??Then it hit me....you're you!
So if you're you, and I'm me, what happens to the people on Santa's knee? Which brings me to point number two, Santa Claus. For years this man has evaded my questioning, using the excuse of resting for the holidays, or
preparing for X-Mas, but now I know the truth. Tne reason Santa Claus avoids
my questioning lies in the one person who has complete control over him.....
RUDOLPH THE RED NOSE REINDEER!!!!
Who else could dominate Santa Claus like that!? Not many...not many *nods*
In conclusion, the elephant in my brain dances like a monkey on a sugar
high, while the squirrels eat the nuts they spent July gathering, the kitties go BOOM BOOM!!!, and all the little boys and girls of the world sleep a heavenly sleep...
*light fades and shines on me*
Thank you for joining me here on my daily insanity bit...

il say yes i want to change mine name to loony a very long time on all the other forums i go now i use loony:Pi would say a name change every six months.
that would still mean admincp access, and the ability to change any details on the persons username, so it's still a breech ^^;
i am a admin at a other forum and its not so much you can edit meh ava ,sig ,user title.and some more:P. and if that guy do something with that power and abuse you could ban him....meh i could be a name changer. i have vacation now and so the time and i am so bored :dead:. so that will do the starting boost that people that want to change there name:P.and it not that hard to keep the names and dates yust keep a draft in your gmail and you can search for the name and the date whitch he has changed his name voil.see not that hard :P .also if you guys make this usergroup this guy would need a big pm box o.o so if a someone whant to change there name yust pm a name changer with there new name they whant. :classic: and done:P

edit: ohyeah to not confuse with the names. they have to keep formely was .... in there sig for a week.so it wouldn't confuse people with the names:P

edit again: maybe a format how to post il yust take mine:P.
subject:name change
name: (space) mr_loonytik date: 1 may name whanted to change to: (space) loony

that will be pretty easy to keep it up yust copy and paste and place it in your gmail draft. :classic:

edit againXD: i think 2 or 1 name changers would be enough. in the start it would be a little hard but after that it isn't hard anymore.:Pif there are 2 name changers then is one name changer for females and one for males that will cutt the work through half :classic:
Im to Sexy For My Shorts
its a dare XD

Ya, i agree with what rudy and andy have said :3 for the sake of putting effort into your name, and losing posts and a join date when you can just leave the name of your old account in your sig, given that it would be your choice to change names rather than stay under the current ones, it is so much easier to leave things be and saves the admins a lot more work ^^;

Loonytik, giving people on pc access to parts of the admin cp for the sake of changing some usernames really isn't worth the security risk ^^;
