It would be nice, if we would get the possibility to have our names changed.
And the restriction is ok too.
What would we do about people's old accounts then?
Delete them? Merge them?

I miss my low UserID sooo much :/

So members having to make new accounts, sacrificing hard-earned post count and join date, not to mention that cluttering up the forums with random double accounts, is your style over here?

What's the big deal with "style" anyways? A good idea is a good idea. And it's not like having one thing like SPPf will make it a clone of SPPf. This place already has its own identity.
All I hear is "SPPF", "SPPF lets us change names" "SPPF has a name change thread", SPPF this, SPPF that. We are not SPPF. Does everything with this name change stuff have to do with SPPF?

You say "sacrificing hard-earned post count". But I ask, when was the last time SPPF had post count? You say "hard-earned post count" but SPPF has no post count. Where is the hard-earned post count on SPPF?

And what might go good for SPPF might not work for PC. Joe doesn't want rejoins because of the sever. Steve doesn't care for rejoins because his sever isn't as bad.
What I'm saying is PC and SPPF are not the same. If you can't see that then you need to open your eyes. We are not SPPF. Our ways are different then SPPF's ways. You can't just say "Well SPPF lets name changes so PC should do the same because I don't want to give up a post count and join date", that's not how it goes. It's always been "if you want a new user name then rejoin". It's been like that longer then 99% of you been members. Yes things change, but I really don't see a point in changing this (it's been fine for over 2 and a half years, if it's not broke don't fix it). If you want a name change then trade in your post count and join date and you'll get a new name that you want. And before anyone says "email" then how long does it take to set up a new email? I bet no more then 5-10 mins. You had to put some though into a new name, so why not a new email to go with that new name.

I'm going to have to say no. Honestly, I think it's a fair trade to give up your post count and join date to get a new name. Besides, the admins at SPPf hardly ever check on the username change thread (some people just got their names changed today, but they've been waiting for nearly a month).

Also, just because SPPf does it, doesn't mean that PC should. SPPf's moderators don't get colourful names and hold presidential elections, so does that mean PC shouldn't? I didn't think so. =P

I'd be more intune with a once every 6 months or once every year thing though.
That'd sound more reasonable. New username in return for having to stick with it for six months. Fair trade, ne?
And because of that, if you consider name changing on the future, you should also consider pruning inactive accounts. That way, if someone, wether for a name change of a newbie registering, he/she can get his/her desired name. Besides, some accounts here haven't been active since the forum's beginnings, looking at their last activity dates.
We don't usually prune inactive accounts. Often times, you'll have members leaving for a certain period, and then returning. Doing that makes it harder to keep track of that member, posts made by them, and such.

Although, I'm pretty sure Steve prunes accounts with 0 posts that haven't visited since they joined every few months or so.
And what might go good for SPPF might not work for PC. Joe doesn't want rejoins because of the sever. Steve doesn't care for rejoins because his sever isn't as bad.
That doesn't really change anything. It's like saying, "PC's server can handle multiple accounts, so go make lots of accounts, and push the server to its limits."
So basically, you're saying that name changes aren't allowed just because SPPf does them?
And before anyone says "email" then how long does it take to set up a new email? I bet no more then 5-10 mins. You had to put some though into a new name, so why not a new email to go with that new name.
But email addresses have nothing to do with PC, so why should PC members be forced to do that just for a new username?

Both of those statements have been made before in this thread, and both have been contradicted.

You don't have to make a new email, because you can change your email in the User CP.

Basically, people change their username when they lose interest in what inspired their username. Re-registering means they would lose, not just their postcount, but all their posts in general, all the reputation they recieved for their posts (yes, some rep is deserved... XD), their join date, and soforth. It also means they'll have to make another e-mail account, which can be quite a nuisance. x.x;
God, you make it seem like such a serious thing. It's not like your posts will be deleted when you make a new account, so what's the big deal? If you want people to know you made those posts so badly, then tell them who you previously were in your signature. Also, your rep will still be there too, and also everything else you mentioned.

And yeah, it takes like 2 minutes to make an email account, big deal. If people want a new name that badly, then they'll do it.

This has already been discussed. Telling people who you WERE in your sig is just not the same as being able to retain your previous info. Not everyone's gonna know who the person was before.

That's like saying that the USA uses computers, and we want to be different than the USA, therefore we shouldn't use computers.

A good idea is a good idea, no matter who else uses it.

I'll ask here instead

Just out of curiousity, is it possible for one member to request a name change on two separate accounts? For example, if a member with the username Swablu made a new account named Altaria (before the name changes began) and posted with both usernames, but then wanted their original account's name changed to Altaria, would they also be able to get their Altaria account's name changed to allow this?

It sounds more like a personal request to me. If my two cents make any difference, I think it should be allowed though.
