Anybody got helpful hints on how to avoid/calm them? );

I should start trying to stop being a coffee addict for one, I think... ;;

Unfortunately no, I had one only once and that was enough for me.
Maybe try a way to slow the bloodflow in your head?

i would wager that not using your phone/laptop as much would be the number one way to lessen their frequency

I've always taken excedrin migraine. I don't get migraines, but I do get bad headaches though. Other than that though, I don't know what to suggest. :c

Ibuprofen with a glass of ice cold coke. And a nap. Works every time.

Eh. I sleep through them. No harm done, I suppose. Occasional drinks of ice water works too.

I just had a really nasty one this past weekend. They're really not pleasant. Unfortunately, the only thing that helps me is migraine strength pain reliever. I still haven't figured out where they come from or how to avoid them :(

They're unavoidable for me during that time of the month, a migraine is always guaranteed. :c Sometimes two, one on the first day and one on the last.

I can't sleep them away - I've tried to just wait for them to pass because I really don't want to rely on pain medication, but when an actual migraine comes on it just doesn't go away no matter what until I take Tylenol. What really worries me is lately one Tylenol doesn't seem to do it, I always have to take two now. :s Which I'm sure is terrible for my liver, but they just don't go away otherwise.

I hear migraines are hereditary and I think that's the case for me, since my mom gets them quite frequently as well.

sweetie ;; I share your pain.
Two Motrin, 30 minutes of eyes closed listening to various rain sounds on YouTube, gets rid of even the worst headache.
I did listen to various new agey "migraine relief" sounds and imagined that it helped some.

Chamomile tea is good for some people to help with anxiety, stomach pains, and not sleeping.
I might try that!

@Juno aww, terrible, but at least you know when they're likely to show up?
Also there are some proper migraine meds that don't just dull the ache but actually combats the ache physically in your brain. I'll get some (talked to a nurse yesterday).

As a long-time sufferer of migraines, there are a few strategies that I've found that works for them.

For one thing, to prevent them, you should follow the stretches described in this reddit thread. When I remembered to do these stretches every morning, it kept the headaches away.

If you already have a terrible migraine, there's one food that you should eat that helps. It's really weird, but it works for both me and my mother. We both eat a can of tomato soup when we have a migraine, and it's the only thing that settles the stomach and takes the edge off the migraine. Which is really bizarre, because apparently tomatoes are a common migraine trigger?

I'm actually already doing that kind if stretches daily :D my masseuse taught me them. Golden.

Tomato soup hm? Maybe I'll try next time xD

I used to get migraines all of the time. No medicine would ever help mine 8( The only thing I could ever do to shake them would be to drink a glass of coke, tea, or anything with high amounts of caffeine.
Unfortunately I've decided to try to cut down on caffeine haha. I'm sure that the migraines and the cutting down are not related though, as I decided only a few days ago, after the attack. But yea I guess, if I had an attack, it would be perfectly ok to chug down caffeine drinks as medicine.
