Spoiler:

The most amazing thing about Pokestops is that you can set a Lure Module inside of it, and every kind of Pokemon will come along for you to capture it. No matter how common or rare. The more lures are set off in Pokestops, the more chances that a rare Pokemon will appear. These lures last for 30 minutes, and it is said that with an incense, it doubles the power of luring a rare Pokemon.

How often do you set them off if you have one to spare? Have you encountered a super rare Pokemon within a lure module? Share your experience and discuss! I'd like to hear some of your stuff.

They don't seem to work IMO. In the city square where I live they always have about 6 or 7 going and I hardly see anything Rare
Are you constantly moving? They work better if you stay there for a while.

That is completely wrong. Incense works completely different, and works best when moving.

For lure modules, it makes absolutely no difference if you move or not as long as you are in range.

Lure modules will spawn new pokemon under them, around one every 5 minutes, these are new spawns that every player in range gets. The spawns are related to the pokemon that normally spawn in the area. When the next one spawns, the last one despawns (unless you caught it or it ran away). It is most effective to have 3 or 4 pokestops with lure models in range, and a larger number of players so that only a few people need to use a lure occasionally to keep it going.

Incense attracts nearby pokemon, only you get them, noone else, they have smoke around them. These spawn a pokemon every 5 minutes or every 200 meters, so using incense while not moving gives you the absolute minimum in effectivity, on a bike at the right speed you can get a lot out of it, like one pokemon every 2 minutes.

In short:
So lures are good for hanging out at pokestops with a group, everyone gets the benefits. Incense is good for moving around alone. Noone else gets the benefits, they only work properly when you move.

I'm just saying that I know a few people that tried the Lure Module with a Lure Incense, and they have spawned several Pokemon within their range. Which resulted that a rare Pokemon would spawn on random. This was based on experience, though. They caught Dragonite and Lapras that way.

Anyways, I'm actually under a lure right now and so far I have caught a maxed CP Pidgeotto in which I have plans to evolve into a Pidgeot once I get enough candy.

Sure. A lure module gives you around 1 pokemon every 5 minutes. Not from the nearby list, new spawn.

And a incense give you one pokemon every 5 minutes if you do not move. From the nearby list. Random spawns if the nearby list is empty, which is really great on a cruise ship or in antarctical.

So hooray, anecdotal evidence says that doubles it to two every 5 minutes. That is technically correct but very misleading.

If you use incense for walking, you get one every 1-2 minutes if you are a fast walker. Or use a bike. That is like 3 pokemon every 5 minutes for just an incense and no module. More results for an investment that is 100 coins cheaper because you are not even using a module.

There is no such thing as "half wrong" if it causes you to make real mistakes, like using incense while not moving or using incense when you nearby-list looks boring. That is a real mistake, so i rate a statement leading to this as completely wrong and misleading instead of accepting it as half wrong.

I don't understand what you're trying to say here?

It's the same as saying the more lottery tickets you have, the more opportunities you have in winning a jackpot.

Anyway, as for the topic, I never use my own lure if I'm by myself. There are countless of others in the area who will be more than willing to continously dump theirs. I only use mine if I'm with friends and family, which is more like the equivalent of treating them and buying rounds in a bar.

The Pokemon that spawn from lures follow the same spawning rules just makes Pokemon definately spawn regularly. If your lure brings in large numbers of people then more rare Pokemon will spawn. That's why it's more effective to use more lures if lots of Pokemon are close because people playing the game will see that and be drawn to it bringing more traffic to the game therefore better spawns

Earlier this month one of my brothers and I set off a couple of lures at a park we went to. The lures were quite useful, considering the fact we both ended up catching Venomoth that day.

I've only ever used a lure 2 or 3 times and one of the times it only lured 1 or 2 Pokemon to it and I already had them all. I found it so frustrating to get a Psyduck (I only needed 1 more for a Golduck) so I put lures down and they never appeared but I finally hatched another one and got my Golduck a few days ago.

Not in my city, but in anoter one I go often, there is some spot with many lure than spawn many good Pokemon... I saw Primeape, Omastar, starters, Vulpix, Growlithe, Ponyta, and many more Pokemon. Almost never a rodent or a bug.

But the thing with the incense, I tried and didn't saw any difference...

Lures don't spawn Pokemon independent of area, by the way.

The other night I was sitting at the overlapping of two Lures for a good two hours, and about 85% of the pokemon coming by were Drowzee. A local confirmed that Drowzee are indeed the most common thing that spawns in the wild around those parts.

ive noticed that even with 3 lure modules running, i dont see so many pokemons if there are only a few players around. when there were 75~100 players with 2 lure modules running at the same spot, so many pokemons were popping up and i was having a hard time trying to catch them all.
the (supposedly improved) incenses havent impressed at all however.

Living on a school campus is great. Lures get set up all the time. In between classes or on my open days I head to one. That seems to be the only way to catch water Pokemon on campus, as well. Also it was a great way to meet people! I've used some a few times from leveling up to see what I can get.

oh ok..what about this what is the max level your trainer can reach
The level cap is 40.

Hitting level 40 is very, very difficult. Pokémon Go's leveling system seriously stretches out the XP needed to climb higher from around level 30 onwards.

Between levels 39 and 40, you need a whopping 5m XP - a tenth of the full amount it takes to go from zero to 40.

Actually its 15 million experience from 1 to 39, and another 5 million from 39 to 40. 20 million total. So its a ridiculous 25% of the total.

By comparison, one million experience gets you to level 26. Two million experience should get you to level 31 or 32 or something. Then it just goes crazy, 18 more million to get from 31 or 32 to 40.

Do the best of both. Go somewhere with a bunch of Poke stops that have lures on them in close proximity. Activate the incense. Walk between the poke stops and catch the interesting things that appear.

I haven't used any, I didn't really know how to use them and usually I can find one going somewhere.

Usually the same Pokemon that spawn anytime spawn in lures though. I don't think I've caught any new Pokemon at a lure. To be honest I don't really see a point in them as rarer Pokemon seem to spawn randomly in places without lures or pokestops. For example Clefairy have started to spawn in our complex after not spawning ever.

I haven't used any of my lures myself either but there's usually enough around to mooch off of.

I swear one of the malls around here is cursed though - every time I go, the fountain PokéStop is lured, and every time I sit there, only Rattata and Pidgey show up. It's kind of incredible how consistently garbage that area is. :')

Lures are affected by the surroundings. Maybe that mall only has common Pokemon. Try luring somewhere else~!
