So, I've been trying to use the Pokemon Gen III Rom Hacking Suite on MrDollSteak's Decap. and Attack Rombase, but despite following the instructions outlined, I've been encountering some problems.
As I understand it, you're supposed to patch your FireRed ROM and then change the header to MrDS. Then you should be able to open it in G3HS, provided you replaced G3HS's ini with the one provided in DollSteak's download. I did all this, with varying results.
Sometimes all of the moves and types in the application simply say '/x', and other times the moves are fine but the types are messed up. In general though, it doesn't seem to be working properly, and I always get two errors.
"At rom offset 0xfffffe there is an unknown rom id. This means that your rom has a number at the offset of the rom id that is not in the ini. Would you like to overwrite this number with a new one? Please note that this could result in data loss, if, for example, there was an image at that location causing the issue. If no, this program will close."
So I press yes, and the application starts up with the screwed up typing or the /x problem. I close and to open the rom again, and I get this:
"The game code of this rom is MrDS however its rom id, 0000, tells me that the I should load a section of ini with gamecode BPRE. Logically, if these don't match, I will be trying to load from the wrong offsets. Would you like to continue loading? Click 'yes' if you know that the gamecode should be different since you changed it yourself. Clock 'no' to reset the rom id and create a new ini section for this rom."
At first I clicked yes, but the result was the same. Then I tried no, still the same result. Well, now, anyway.
At one point I actually succeeding in getting it working, but that was on a test ROM. I repeated this exact process on a different ROM (just a copy -- it was a clean FireRed ROM patched with the rombase) and it started failing again. Haven't gotten it working since -- the closest I've gotten was getting the moves to at least display properly, and all I did was try this over and over until I got that result.
Am I doing something wrong, is the tool buggy, or what? Help would be greatly appreciated.
