Protip: If you appraise a pokemon, and it has 2 stats ATK OR DEF and HP that are IV15, do a little more research. everyone is searching for the perfect 15-15-15 out there, but there is a great niche subset of pokemon, something like 15-0-15, that would be a BETTER gym attacker than a 15-15-15. Assuming movesets are equal, 15-0-15 will be a better gym attacker, because its CP will be lower. this will allow that mon to seemingly punch above his weigh class. same goes for gym defenders with IV 0-15-15. They appear to be weaker than they truly are... these are extreme cases, where IV are highly skewed like this. but it gives you an idea of what you may find during appraisal. many don't like to spend time to investigate/appraise every pokemon. i totally understand that. but just something to think about.

all bad info, so i have editted to strikethrough. :( thanks for clearing that up for me.

Or have higher defense and take a few more hits. CP differentials will only affect experience gained. If I'm fighting a gym, my priority is to use as few Pokémon as necessary and take down all the opposing Pokémon in as little time as possible.

Are you sure that's correct? From what I've read when you attacking a gym it's your attac stat against their defence stat but the defender uses their attack stat against your defence stat.
There are many forces in this world.
Some are good, some are bad.
Some we can see and some we can't.
Some we know about and others we are yet to discover.
Don't let anyone tell you anything is impossible.
For there is no one in this world you can truly know for sure.

This is correct. It's attack vs defense with stamina as padding.

^Best way to do it (only if you have a coordinated team) is to prepare a Pokémon with barely any IVS, low base stamina, and horrific DPS attacks... say around CP1000, then throw a CP500 Hyper Beam Chansey at it.

Or if you somehow have a sub CP100 Pokémon capable of fighting a CP200 Magikarp.

Either way you'll need competent teammates around since they need to prepare the punching bag and load up on defenders while you're working on leveling.
