I don't know what brought this on, but I was thinking about how we have 721 Pokemon to date through 6 generations and was wondering if there were 21 Pokemon I would cut out of the Pokedex in order to make the total 700. The reason I wanted 700 is so that each generation would AVERAGE 100 Pokemon. So I got to looking through the whole Pokedex and found 21 Pokemon I felt that we could do without. Click here if you want to see the whole Pokedex.

Gen 1
Diglett
Dugtrio
Doduo
Dodrio
Voltorb
Electrode

The Diglett and Doduo line fall victim to Gen 1's serious overuse of just adding another head or something to a Pokemon's design and calling it an evolution. Voltorb and Electrode are just super lazy designs imo.

Gen 2
Ledyba
Ledian
Unown
Delibird
Hitmontop

I always thought Ledian looked pretty cool, but the whole evolution line is very weak and unneeded. I remember thinking that Unown was a really cool idea whenever Gen 2 first came out, but it's actually kind of lame now. Delibird should be self-explanatory. I've never been a fan of Hitmontop.

Gen 3
Volbeat
Illumise
Chimecho
Luvdisc

Volbeat and Illumise are decent Pokemon in their own right, but I really dislike their designs. Chimecho is pretty useless, and Luvdisc is super lazy design-wise.

Gen 4
Kricketot
Kricketune
Phione
Manaphy
Regigigas

Kricketune looks alright, but its line is pretty worthless. Gen 4 has a ton of legendaries, and I've always thought that Phione and Manaphy, although powerful, aren't really needed. Also, Regigigas looks like crap and has the worst ability in the game.

Gen 5
Heatmor

I just really dislike this guy's design; always have.

So what Pokemon would you all cut?

couple things that need to go. managed to get it down to 700.

Gen 1
Meowth/Persian - big in the anime obv but totally uninteresting in the games.
Lickitung - how did anyone ever think this was a good idea

Gen 2
Chinchou/Lanturn - pretty forgettable
Pineco/Forretress - ^
Dunsparce - I've never even seen one ever
Delibird - Santa Bird needs to go
Phanphy/Donphan - irrelevant
Hitmontop - 2 was enough ok

Gen III
Surskit/Masquerain - again, super forgettable
Gulpin/Swalot - I don't want a pile of slime pls. At least, not another one.
Luvdisc - duh

Gen VI

Ambipom - second hand = evolution?
Lickilicky - WHO APPROVED THIS MUK GTFO
Phione - literally only exists for that dumb movie

Gen VI
Audino - less cute chansey clone

it's actually funny - a while ago I really thought that the Pokémon from newer generations were significantly worse, but going through the Pokédex and composing this list has made me realize that most of then are just as good as the originals. It's easy to fall into the trap of being a Genwunner, haha.

I'd cut the following Pokemon:

Gen 1:
Farfetch'd
Goldeen and Seaking

Gen 2:
Unown
Stantler

Gen 3:
Volbeat and Illumise
Spinda
Luvdisc

Gen 4:
Chingling
Phione
Arceus

Gen 5:
Patrat and Watchog
The Pidove line
Basculin
Trubbish and Garbodor
Emolga
The Klink line
Stunfisk
Cryogonal

Gen 6:
Furfrou
Binacle

Spoiler:
If we really need 700 Pokemon, we could give evolutions to Jynx, Dunsparce, Corsola, Chimecho, Chatot, and male Combee, and make Kangaskhan's baby its own Pokemon. Maybe we could also bring back Basculin along with an evolution for it, give Lunatone and Solrock evolutions, and cut the Snubbull and Voltorb lines in their places.
