Hi there,

In Fire Red, after the player loses a battle, he or she is warped to the last visited PokeCenter. Immediately following, Nurse Joy takes the player's PokeBalls and places them in the healing machine, wishing you good luck. This sequence is not in a level script. Is there any information on how to remove this sequence all together? My goal is to simply cut out the Nurse Joy script and just leave the player standing there after death.

I don't know what you mean by 'level script' seeing as I'm new to scripting, but have you looked at the script on Nurse Joy's in Advanced Map? Surely you could just edit it so she doesn't heal your Pokemon and instead takes them from you.

You misunderstand. The goal is to free the player immediately after death along with his or her fully healed party. To do this, I'd just need to cut the visual "healing sequence" out.

The method you described does not have anything to do with scripting. I believe the sequence is tied to the feature of death itself, hence my asking if there is some research on it, seeing as how it would probably be done through hex editing.

there is one here that prevents loss (aka the whiteout sequence) and just returns the player to the overworld.

I did misunderstand and I am sorry, I re-read the original post and came to realise you just want your Pokemon healed if they die in battle. It sounds like a good feature to have, although I'm not sure why you would want it (kind of defeats the point of battling if you can just try again with little effort) but perhaps for a certain event it would be very useful. FBI obviously has the answer, so I hope that helps seeing as I have no knowledge of ASM routines at the moment.

Perfect! Thank you for doing the nitty griddy work for us! I find that these things tend to go unapplauded.

It's perfectly fine! Yes the feature may seem a bit strange at first, but my hack is based off of a Mystery Dungeon-ish design with regards to fainting and no humans, so having the Nurse Joy sequence wouldn't make much sense.
