I know some of you might find this to be a bit premature giving that, as of this posting, we're expecting some more news regarding S/M in a few days and there is a good chance what I say could be completely wrong. But right now I feel it's high time we a had thread regarding who, or what, these Ultra Beasts are so here is my personal theory about them and where they came from.

First off, based on what I have read on the forum so far, the general consensus is that they are human/pokemon hybrids secretly created by the Aether Foundation in order to change the environment for their needs. Now this is based around another theory that said foundation is actually the villains of the S/M and not Team Skull. Personally, I do not buy into this theory, but that's a discussion for another time. That said, just because I find the foundation itself not evil doesn't mean the people who work there are inherently good.

Let's say there was a scientist who once worked there, let's say said scientist proposed a project involving creating these human/pokemon hybrids to further the foundations goals but was rejected because of how unethical such a project would be. Angered and frustrated, the scientist quietly took their plans and found a place to create his hybrids in secret (presumably in another dimension, given how the beasts appear in the game), and plot their revenge on the foundation for their "short-sightedness." As for who this rogue scientist is, well I don't want to call out any names without proof, but let's just say that it might not be who people think it is. In other words, if this were Bleach, one of the known scientists at the foundation would be Aizen. (And the Ultra Beasts would be the Arrancars, but that's besides the point)

Now the other question is how many of these beasts are there? Assuming these are the hybrids people believe they are, we would have to assume that each beast would be representative of each pokemon typing. If that's the case, then we could them surmise that UB-02A and UB-02B would both represent bug-type pokemon (and possess the ability to fuse together into a singular, more powerful beast, but that is besides the point) and while we don't know that much about UB-01, we might be able to assume that it either represents normal or water-type pokemon based on it's appearance and/or abilities (leaning towards normal-type myself). So with all that, we could be looking at a total of 18 Ultra Beasts created.

TL:DR There's an Aizen working in the Foundation and they made the Ultra Beasts

So there's my thoughts on the Ultra Beasts, feel free to share your thoughts on them below.

Thank you

It's worth noting what Ultra Beasts are named after.

Ultraterrestrial:
A superior, non-human entity of natural or supernatural origin that is indigenous to planet Earth.

If this is the case, being humans doesn't make sense for the Ultra Beasts.

I'm really just not sure how to feel about them to be honest. I have pretty mixed feelings about the whole

“We do have a lot in common.
The same air, the same Earth, the same sky.
Maybe if we started looking at
what's the same instead of
always looking at what's different,

...well, who knows?”

They look like American comic book characters rather than American Cartoons @janejane

Anyways, I like the concept, well, what we know of it thus far ^^

Here is something to ask yall. What if the True Dragon is a Ultra Beast?

We know Ultra Beasts are not from Earth and I really don't think they are humans.

The True Dragon, I mean what Zekrom, Reshiram, and Kyreum were before they divided. I think it was confirmed that the True Dragon was not from Earth and it fell from the sky. Unless this was retconned in BW2. I can't remember.

I doubt we will ever be able to own the True Dragon, but wonder if we fight it? The color of them kinda match the Ultra Beasts, and imagining it, I think it will be as powerful as an Ultra Beast.

You know, I really do wonder whether or not UB-01 and UB-02 are the only two Ultra Beasts we're going to encounter. Kind of interesting that we haven't seen any others yet. Of course, this is assuming that the upcoming trailer isn't going to show another Ultra Beast and whatnot.
I was thinking the same thing as well. I know that UB-01 resembles Lillie while UB-02 Beauty and Absorption's designs seem to be resemble Lusamine and Gladion. That's just people with their theories, but maybe we could get one more Ultra Beast revealed and then hold off on revealing more until after release.

I was thinking that too recently, then I thought even if we don't see anymore Ultra Beasts in S/M, GF could be playing a longer game and would be revealing them in later gens

I just realized: Pokemon Sun and Moon, which have Ultra Beasts, come out the same day as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them...
Might as well call that Sun and Moon arc, "Fantastic Ultra Beasts and Where to Find Them":)

Aside from that little tidbit, who's your favorite Ultra Beast so far? Or opinions in general?

Of the three officially shown on Serebii, UB-01 is my favorite.

What do you guys think they will be type wise? It is extremely hard for me to tell. But right now I think this.

UB01 - Fairy
UB02: Absorb - Bug/Fighting
UB02: Beaut - Bug/Psychic (Really not sure on type)
Black and White UB with hair like stuff - Electric/Dark
Solid Black UB - Dark/Steel
Black and Yellow UB - Dragon/Bug
Green UB - Steel/Ghost
The UB that looks like the Kalos Elec Badge - Electric/Flying

I wouldn't go ahead taking that as the gospel, because a "Nintendo rep" told them.

"Nintendo reps" have done this countless times and often get stuff wrong. Not sure if anyone remembers or cares, but at E3 last year with the "amazing" game known as Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival, Josh Thomas from TBB said that a Nintendo Rep @ E3 told him "the game would be free to purchase on the eShop, you just need to buy an amiibo to play the game" - which didn't turn out to be true. But since he said he got told by a Nintendo rep, every single media outlet went along with it as if it were true, and then when it didn't, it call came back on him.

Even Alison Rapp has since commented it after she was fired from Nintendo and said it was total BS.

I know Polygon is more "reliable" than a YouTuber, and I'm not saying this information is right or wrong (and it looks to be right based on the data mine because why else would UB's have shiny models), but I still wouldn't report something spoken by a "Nintendo rep" as fact.

They are catchable, yay! :D. Then technically aren't the Ultra Beasts Pokemon?

A funny thought occured to me; What if the UBs were "???"-type.

At least there'd be an actua legitimate use for such a thing.

I'd actually like that idea. :)

In that case, I'm gonna take what Polygon said with a grain of salt until I hear otherwise. If true however, I'm not sure how I'd feel if could catch what are suppose to be threatening Alola, and perhaps the world as well.

That'd be interesting. Not falling into any known typing, yet (in my mind anyway) representing the different pokemon types. And based on what I've seen in the leaks, that could very well be the case and may confirm my belief that we might be seeing 18 UBs (19 if you count UB-02A and UB-02B as separate UBs) over the next few games, if not in S/M.

I guess so, even if it did make me feel a bit disappointed. But the fun part is we can speculate on any possible types or abilities that they might have.

I thought that it was explicitly stated elsewhere that the UB are not Pokemon at all. So, I'm kinda... huh?

The "shared secret" with Rockruff and the starter evos was another claim that was lost in translation, but I guess we'll see how it pans out. They do have shiny sprites after all, indicating that they would be catchable.
