honestly the day itself is going to be the most chill day of the five surrounding it on either side

i'm just gonna... wake up at my aunt's house, help make some breakfast, open presents, do up a nice lunch and later dinner. just hangin out all day. :>

gonna open presents at my house, have breakfast, have family round for a couple of hours, go visit more family, come back home for a nice roast, and then pass out from eating and drinking too much.

I'm heading over to my parents place after work on Christmas Eve, spending the night there, then having Christmas dinner there, opening presents, all the usual Christmas shizzle, then coming back home in time to start work again on Boxing Day.

This Christmas will be much more chill than the last probably since there'll be less people here but it's basically the same formula.

1. Wake up
2. Presents with my mum and sister
3. Sweet FA interupted by phone calls with my Dad and Grandmother on the other side of the country
4. People will get here for dinner
5. More presents
6. Dinner will be eaten
7. Sweet FA

I and others have been been invited over by family to "help make dinner" that day. So it'll be basically wake up, go to church like any other sunday, go home and go out to help make a dinner, then have said dinner.

I'm not entirely sure if presents will be opened that day, or the night before. Last year it was the night before, but we were also gone to somewhere else christmas day last year, and this year that won't be happening until the day after soooo I dunno.

I'm Mexican, so we open presents at midnight Christmas eve.

Christmas Day is just a chill day so we just spend the day messing with the gifts we got as well as eat leftovers.

Going to a family friend's house! They make the best Christmas dinners. Also my cousin from Seattle texted yesterday to ask if he and his fiancée can come spend Christmas with us, which I'm really excited about since I haven't seen them in ages (Seattle is like 2 hours away but they spent a lot of time in Singapore recently and just returned home, got a new place, etc).

- let my dog open his gifts first so he isn't distracted with the wrapping paper
Can I just say it really pleases me my family aren't the only weird lot who buy presents for their pets.

And here's me thinking you were being witty.

- Wake up way too early (like 9am)
- Open presents
- Sweet FA (TM gimmepie)
- Collect grandparents
- Eat lunch
- Bit more family time
- Sweet FA.

(For those concerned about the grandparents, someone else takes them back.)

buildup to christmas
  • clean the house to the point of it being inhospitable to life
  • get the usual 'just because they're pricks it doesn't mean they're not family' speech
  • pick up relatives two days before christmas - they always fly here, they'd neeever fly us out to france instead.
  • begin day one of many days of copious wine inhalation

christmas day
  • wake at 6am bc i have three siblings younger than me who want to open their presents immediately
  • go back to sleep for three or so hours
  • start preparing food for whenever the family want to eat, some years i may even experience the christmas miracle of getting help
  • eat for like an hour
  • laze around for another two or so hours
  • The Big Gifts where all the extended family swap presents and whatever and we all see who got mashed potatoes or other muk gifts as well as the good ones
  • laze around again and drink considerable amounts of wine
  • obligatory madeline mccann discussion
  • muktalking our fake aunt who none of us ever warmed to
  • option a) fall asleep where we're sitting b) watch a movie and laugh until we pass out

boxing day to new years
  • rinse, lather, repeat
  • more discussions about famous murders
  • probably at least one political argument
  • wine
  • talk to my aunt about how much i love her and miss having her around the place
  • eat even more

jan 2nd
  • send matriarch pierre and everyone else on their merry psyducking way
