1) Fat loss and getting into shape: Okay, so I'm still 17 and probably have like an inch or two I can grow, so I dont necessarily have to lose weight because I can "grow into it" so to speak.

I haven't weighed myself recently, but I think I'm probably like 210 lbs. Im currently a little over 6'3.

My goal is just to lose fat and get into shape. Ill wager that something like 190-200 lbs at 6'4 would be good. But I'm not great at biology, nor have i researched this. So if anyone knows anything, that would be awesome!

So this will entail regular exercise and eating healthy. I tend to eat a lot (I think i get this characteristic from my dad lol) and eat lots of treats.

2) Getting homework done early and effectively: Will help goals 1 and 3

3) Breeding Pokemon and making competitive teams: I gotta do something fun, right? Also, I want to go to an official tournament sometime.

According to google (yeah i know right), you're actually in a healthy range for your height. Not a nutritionist, but I'd say probably just focus on getting fit first instead of focusing on losing weight. Obviously it doesn't hurt to have healthy eating habits anyways though, so try and eat better foods instead of like eating less I would think.

I feel like everyone has issues with time management, I wish I knew some better advice for it. I guess maybe describe how you get your homework done normally?

I have fat I dont like... and as a teenager, I probably shouldn't really have this much. Like relatively to other fat teens my age, I'm good. Regardless, I think you are right- getting fit is what I should focus on. And eating healthier or less (i tend to overeat) would definitely be beneficial.

As for time management, Im a lot better now. But its really the distractions I need help with.

If getting fit is your goal, then remember to focus on cardio exercise and not things like weights. Simple things like going for regular walks, walking/cycling instead of driving or jogging won't cost you any money and are perfect ways to improve your fitness. You can help yourself stick to it by joining an existing exercise group or doing it with a friend. Another alternative would be to take up a sport.

When it comes to competitive teams I think the best way to learn is to practice. Build teams, get a feel for the meta, get your ass kicked a lot and eventually you'll start to build a better understanding. It's also a good idea to read up on good movesets and to talk with more experienced or skilled battlers. I got a lot better by talking to Anti, Aurora and Dragon and battling a fair bit with the latter two. Visit the battling section here more and spend some time on our showdown server.

Can't help you with time management though. I'm even mukter at it than you. xD

Whats wrong with jogging? I like doing sprints instead of jogging because I would rather go super fast and get super tired short-term than have to pace myself and push through. Maybe I'm just being lazy. xD

Nothing, read jogging as a separate thing not a mode of transport. Sprints don't develop fitness nearly as well as jogging does.

I don't but if you ask around you'll probably find someone who does.

It's a universal problem with humanity.

Thanks! I prefer VGC, but it doesnt seem to be as popular as Smogon, although Smogon rules' popularity is deserving. VGC just seems to have a way of balancing itself out and singles can't, with exceptions of course.

If you wan't to get "fit and into shape" with cardio, any kind of cardio that causes you to work hard is fine. Brisk walking, jogging, long distance running, sprint work. They're all good, and should all be done instead of just focusing one thing at a time. Doing things like swimming, riding a bike, boxing etc. are also fantastic forms of cardio. Push ups, sit ups (on an exercise ball to make sure you get full spine rotation and flex, otherwise you'll damage your back), squats, skipping, planks etc are all good for building the core muscles.

Joining a gym and doing weight training, as long as you are continuously challenging yourself (so trying to pump out extra reps, doing an extra set, stuff like that) can also be classed as cardio as it will cause your heart rate to go up, make you work hard, increase your breathing rate and so on. With weights of course you can get strong without getting massive (I guess you could call it "in shape" or "lean") would certainly focus on proper form and repetition instead of trying to lift the heaviest stuff you can, and then doing 3524067384 different types of protein and supps (unless you want to get into that)

Hope that helps with some fitness side of things!

And of course with eating, Don't be afraid of carbs, eat plenty of greens, plenty of fruit, lean meat and try not to snack and you'll be fine

Thank you for the advice! Oh, I'm certainly not afraid of carbs! I love them... too much.

Update: I haven't really done much exercise due to some time constraints and getting sick. I hope to start back up though. This week is crazy for me. :/

NEW GOAL

So im a waiter for a catering company and I was contracted for the first time outside the company for $15/hour. The event is in a month or so. If I preform well, then ill have a good amount of people that could want me to work their events and ill receive good recommendations.

I have the proper assets: dress shoes, tuxedo waiting pants, proper white button down shirt, cumber-bun, and snazzy bowtie. I do not believe transportation to be an issue.

Any tips for growing this "business?" I put it in quotes because its hardly fair to even call it that. Will business cards help? How expensive are they? Is this type of thing even possible? Im seriously doubting it.

I know I can work hard and well, but my problem is my age. Its illegal for me to mix alcohol, so ill be outcompeted if I ever serve events outside of word-of-mouth. I would like to learn new skills to compensate, such as being able to beautify place settings by cutting vegetables into pretty shapes to replace flowers, which are more expensive. What other skills will be helpful to learn?

Currently my fee is $15/hour, and so through experience and the acquiring of new skills, I hope to work up to $25/hour. $15/hour is cheap for this type of work, but it is still better than what I am paid by the catering company, which is why I would rather be "self-employed."

How can this sort of deal be listed in a college application? Employment by a company is easier to list, but I dont quite understand how I would put it on an application.

Okay so I'm reading through this thread and seeing a lot of advice about your fitness that frankly is misconstrued.

First and foremost, I recommend calculating your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expedentire) using one of the many calculators online to determine how many calories you should be consuming a day. This is based on your activity level, weight, height, age, sex. Losing fat is all about calories. You cannot lose fat without losing weight, realistically. To lose fat, you need to be consuming less calories than you are releasing. All the cardio in the world won't help you if you consume more calories than you put out. Everything you consume consists of calories, which I'm sure you know. Depending on how much weight you want to lose decides how many calories you should cut from your diet that day. It's all a numbers game.

Keep track of the calories you consume and exercise some self control, and you'll reach your goals. Many people recommend using an app like MyFitnessPal to track your caloric intake, but you can keep notes all the same if you prefer. As you begin, just focus on cutting things like soda from your diet. Soda is about 250 calories per normal size glass. Those add up if you consume multiple glasses a day. The only thing I recommend drinking is water. Eat clean. No sugars, no junk food, etc. Generally avoid greasy fatty foods. Note when I say "fatty" foods I do not mean the macronutrient fat. I mean things like French fries and onion rings. Chances are if you consume something and you can honestly feel the grease being extracted from the pores on your face, you should avoid those foods. Eat clean. Chicken, salmon, turkey breast, vegetables (go green), fruits.

These are all things I recommend focusing on when you get more serious. As you begin, you don't need to immediately make these changes. You're more likely to stick to this if you do it gradually. First just focus on your calories that you consume from a numerical standpoint. Then as you start to notice changes, make these changes over time. Also, look at this as a lifestyle change. Not a diet.

Get yourself into the gym. Cardio isn't exactly necessary, though it does help you extract calories from your body which creates the deficit you are looking for with your caloric intake. Roughly 1 mile of running at a moderate speed burns about 100 calories for most people. My advise is to focus on weightlifting and building strength first and foremost, because you extract quite a bit of calories from lifting weights. The website bodybuilding.com has a gold mine of information for all of this information, including calories and diet (I'm saying this word as in what you are putting into your body, not "diet" like what people say "I'm on a diet."). They have a database of exercises including instructions and videos on how to perform these exercises. It's imperative that you follow he proper form not only to optimize results but also reduce injury risks. Also utilize the fitness world of YouTube. And i don't mean those "Six Pack Ab Shortcut" video ads you see. Look up AthleanX, Mike Harmen Fitness, Jason Wittrock, and Matt Ogus. Find a program and stick to it. When it comes to muscle building, consistency is key, and it's about the journey of reaching your goal rather than finding shortcuts to make your goal come faster. If you keep this in mind and take it to heart and find the discipline (do not rely on motivation as it is fleeting) to meet your goals, they will be met.

Beginners generally see results very quickly and as a beginner you are expected to grow rapidly in the gym. During this time, you will gain muscle as well as lose fat. As your body adapts to weight training, which will probably take about six months, you will likely need to focus on one or the other for the quickest results, but there are ways of training and eating that will allow you to cut weight and gain muscle all year round. They are generally substantially harder lifestyles to adapt to and not recommended for beginners based on how challenging they can be.
