we got Mega Evolutions in Gen 6, and now in Gen 7 we got Z-Moves; is this a trend that's gonna continue, do you think? what major additions to the battling system do you think we could be getting in the future?

it certainly seems like Z-Moves and Mega Evolutions have been such a prominent feature of the new generations that it'd feel weird to not have a similar feature introduced in future versions, haha.

They really need to not. It's poor game design.

They need to stick to what they have and refine it instead of throwing it on like a salad topping and then abandoning it next Gen. Z-Moves and Megas together already feel too messy and poorly designed.

I've started getting a serious craving for the older gens where battles weren't so wrapped around a specific gimmick.

I really hope there isn't major new battle mechanics every generation, it would end up making things really confusing and, personally, I can't see Game Freak thinking of something like Z-Moves or Mega Evolutions every new Gen, I mean there's only so much you can do in a battle.

These are pretty much my thoughts. :/ I do like Mega Evolution, but not a fan of Game Freak's habit of designing a cool mechanic and then ditching it for a new one. When they do that they don't have enough time to flesh out mechanics over several generations.

Yeah Mega Evolutions were pretty cool, their downfall was Game Freak not sticking with them.

Although thinking on this I've thought of some less focused "battle mechanics" that have popped up over the gens, that being the Alola Forms and Form Changes.

I really like that path, where if Game Freak would just focus on taking Pokemon and making them "fresh" in new ways that can also affect battles. I wish they'd focus on that, but Z-Moves kinda throws a wrench in all of that.
