ICE ULTIMATE - Kalos - Part 1
So, let’s begin! I kind of wanted to do the regions in order, but decided to start with X since it’s been a long time since I played through Kalos.

THE PLOT
Spoiler:

-Picked Fennekin as starter…. obviously can’t use it after the Fossil Lab, but it’ll help me get through the first gym
-Murdered a Chespin with Ember
-Got through Route 2, Santalune Forest, and Route 3
-Beat the Roller Skater blocking the gym

THE TEAM
Spoiler:

Fennekin - “Taylor”

Lv. 11
Ability - Overheat
Nature - Hasty
Item - None
Moves:
Scratch
Tail Whip
Ember
Howl

Name: Annabelle

Part 3: Heating Up

Spoiler:
- Blew past most of Route 112 and Route 113 without much difficulty.
- Arrive at Fallabor, stuff is happening.
- Route 114 had a little bit of a minor challenge, but was nothing severe.
- Heart Scale. I drop everything and teach Masticar Iron Head.
- Arrive at the Meteor Falls, and defeat Tabitha and Generic Grunt.
- I head to Mauville, then drop the beatdown on Team Magma on Mt. Chimney.
Important Battle 6: Vs. Magma Leader Maxie
His Mightyena and Camerupt fell rather quickly, but I wanted to beat the Golbat with Hyla. But being frail defensively didn't help, and she fainted. I then switched in another team member (I forgot who) and took it out.
- Jagged Pass was OK. I might need to go back in the future.
- Arrive at Lavaridge and enter the gym. I attempted to evolve Hyla, but it didn't work out and she was level 29 before the fight.
Important Battle 7: Vs. Gym Leader Flannery
OHKO Slugma. Possibly OHKO Numel.
Kirlia with one Calm Mind can survive an Overheat from Torkoal. But not Body Slam. What I did worked though, as the set sun was able to be stalled out. I then fainted it with Conejito.
- I then began to level for Norman on Route 111 and Route 115.
- Hyla evolves into a Gardevoir
- I beat the trainers of the Petalburg Gym with ease.
Important Battle 8: Vs. Gym Leader/Father Norman
I was worried as this tends to be one of the harder gyms in Hoenn. I lead with Masticar to activate Intimidate, and was able to KO the first Slaking with Masticar and Conejito. I then defeat Slaking with Hyla. The last Slaking was intimidated again, nullifying it's Retaliate, and I managed to KO it with Conejito.
- Get surf and charge Route 115
- Take on a couple more trainers, and catch my last team member, Melee the Jigglypuff!
- I began (and am still in the middle of) grind Melee to catch the rest of my team!
- Shoutout to the second HM Slave, Joggers the Zigzagoon.

  • Defeated Koga. Nothing to write home about.
  • Defeated Sabrina. Tbh, I had more trouble with one of the Channelers in her gym than her.
  • Defeated Blaine. He was harder than the other two, but not terribly so - for some strange reason, he spent more time trying to heal his Pokemon than attacking me.

Ultimate Normal Monotype - Blue - Update #6 - FINAL

Progress
Spoiler:
  • Defeated Giovanni. It was a bit harder than the previous Gym Leaders, but I managed pretty well, mostly thanks to Chansey. :)
  • Beat Rival on Route 22. I'm kind of surprised by how quickly his level spiked - I was almost 10 levels lower than his Venusaur. But despite that, I had no trouble beating him.
  • Defeated the Elite 4. I would've wrote individual comments for each one, but really, all of the battles went pretty much the same - they were pretty difficult because of how underlevelled I was! The easiest was Bruno, and the hardest of course, was Lance - he OHKO'd my Chansey on the first turn, yo.
  • Defeated Rival. This was the hardest battle of all, as you can imagine. Especially that Alakazam. In the end though, I came out victorious, and became the new Pokemon League Champion!

Final Team

Progress
Spoiler:
  • Received Chikorita as my starter, retrieved the Mystery Egg from Mr. Pokemon, and defeated Rival in Cherrygrove City. Usual beginning of the game stuff. :P
  • Caught Hoothoot on Route 29.
  • Defeated all of the monks in Sprout Tower.
  • Defeated Falkner. Even though I was a bit above his level, he was still pretty hard. I think the reason I was able to get through him as well as I did was because I used an X Defend lol.
  • Received the Egg from Professor Elm's assistant.

  • Defeated Team Rocket at Slowpoke Well.
  • Defeated Bugsy. I almost lost, but thankfully, I was able to use Hypnosis on Scyther to stop its Fury Cutter.
  • Beat Rival in Azalea Town. I'm not going to lie, it was REALLY difficult. It took me a few tries...
  • Hoothoot evolved into Noctowl.
  • Beat Whitney. I was really scared of her, but it actually was pretty easy. Hypnosis + Nightmare is a very deadly combo.

Progress
Spoiler:
  • Caught Miltank on Route 38.
  • Caught Snubbull on Route 38.
  • Defeated Rival in Burned Tower. This battle went a lot better than the last one thanks to Miltank's Rollout.
  • Defeated Morty. I had a hard time against his Gengar, but Hypnosis + Nightmare ended up being incredibly effective again. I think this is going to become a running trend...
  • Snubbull evolved into Granbull.
  • Beat Chuck. I was pretty scared of him, and his gym did give me difficulties... Noctowl came through for me in the end, though. :)
  • Beat Jasmine. It took me a bunch of tries to get through it, mainly because I kept attempting to use Togepi against her for some reason and kept resetting lol. I was able to beat her though... Using Hypnosis + Nightmare again...... That combo is really broken.

I didn't post here before, so when I say completed, I did a monotype of the adjacent game beforehand. I might redo them eventually.

Username: Zero-G
Game: Polished Crystal 3.0 beta (Crystal base)
Type: Water (completed), Electric

Username: Zero-G
Game: Pokemon Dark Rising 1 (Kaizo), 2, Origins (all three FireRed base)

Username: Zero-G

Starting off with the Fighting mono on Emerald. I need some kind of relaxation after beating Vega, lol. Will keep the post updated somewhat regularly.

This part took awhile. I wanted to get both Winona and Tate & Liza, but a lot of the late game routes are padded with big walking segments and a load of trainers, with some back and forth stuff.

Part 4: Jungle Buddies
Spoiler:
- Got Toxic TM for Melee
- Entered the left side of Route 118, and did the Latios/Latias quest, giving me the Mega Bracelet
*I don't intend to use megas in the playthrough.
- Got the Dazzling Gleam TM for Melee. Melee's moveset is 100% TMs somehow.
- Began the Route 119 trek, which is actually a jungle somehow, and evolve Melee into Wigglytuff, and grind it in the "Mimic circle".
- Slowly get through Route 119, and arrive at the weather institute.
- Clear it out, get a Castform. Box it. Excitement. Yay.
- May shows up and challenges me. I would enter the "Important Battle" tag if it wasn't a sweep.
- Arrive at Fortree. The ladders are annoying.
I need to mention this, who decided to flood the later routes with Bird Keepers. Yes, we get Swellow and Pelipper exist, but these things were the some of FIRST trainers you faced in GSC. I don't get it.
- Go to Route 120 and grab the Devon Scope.
- Enter and beat the Fortree gym trainers.
Important Battle 9: Vs. Gym Leader Winona
This was a pretty easy battle, even without a majority of the super effective types most people have at the battle (Electric and Rock). I thought the Skarmory was my one tough foe, but Conejito 2HKOed it with ease.
- Completed the rest of Route 120, and went to Route 121, where I beat most of that route's trainers as well.
- Arrived at Lilycove. For some reason, I can't use the ferry for Slateport - Lilycove transportation as it is... saved for the post game.
Important Battle 10: Vs. May
This one wasn't that hard either, but it wasn't an instant sweep. I think most of her team was 2HKOed however.
- Get two more TMs at the Department Store for Melee, and then head to Mt. Pyre. Beat the trainers and head to the top.
- Get to the top and face Team Magma. 4 easy battles
- Head to the Slateport dock, and then defeat the two magma grunts there.
NEXT TIME: The rest of the Team Magma Arc, as well as the Mossdeep and hopefully Sootopolis Gyms.

Spoiler:
  • Caught Teddiursa on Route 45.
  • Teddiursa evolved into Ursaring.
  • Defeated Clair. It was really hard, mainly because I was underleveled. But, unsurprisingly, I was able to use Hypnosis + Nightmare on her Kingdra.
  • Defeated Rival in Victory Road. It wasn't too difficult, though I'm still feeling the effects of being underleveled.
  • Defeated the Elite 4. Since I didn't feel like doing much grinding, it was pretty difficult, Will and Bruno especially. But, all things considered, the Elite 4 felt like a cakewalk because...
  • With much difficulty, I defeated Lance. Oh my god, this battle was tough, and not just because I was underleveled. He runs Hyper Beam on EVERYTHING, so I spent most of the battle just healing and attacking on his recharge turns. In the end, Ursaring was my real MVP - since she was the only one with a decent Ice move, she was able to wipe out the Dragonites pretty easily.

  • Caught Taillow on Route 104.
  • Caught Slakoth in Petalburg Woods.
  • Beat the Team Magma Grunt in Petalburg Woods. It was kind of hard - Slakoth really sucks at this level, lol.
  • Caught Whismur on Route 116.
  • Somehow managed to beat Roxanne. It required a combination of overleveling, 6 Double Teams, Focus Energy, 6 X Attacks, and lots of Super Potions. Thank God that's over with.

  • Delivered the Letter to Steven, defeated Team Magma at the Oceanic Museum, and delivered the Devon Goods to Captain Stern.
  • Slakoth evolved into Vigoroth.
  • Beat Brawly. It was a LOT easier than I expected... He wasn't even able to attack me, Taillow just kept smacking him with Wing Attack.
  • Whismur evolved into Loudred.
  • Defeated May on Route 110. This battle is usually really difficult for me, but it actually wasn't this time. Probably because Grovyle is weak to Taillow.
  • Taillow evolved into Swellow.
  • Completely demolished Wally in Mauville. I'm going to be honest, I felt really bad about it.
  • Defeated Wattson. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be... But I was only able to win because I taught two of my Pokemon Rock Smash. I have a feeling I'm going to regret that later, lol....

Part 5: How to save an entire region.
Spoiler:
- Started by entering an invading the Magma Base in Lilycove.
- Bash grunts and get important items, like the Master Ball
- The wild Maxie got away...
- Backtrack, and head to Mossdeep City
- After healing and checking out the city, I head south and check out most of the ocean routes between Mossdeep and Pacifidlog, and then continue onto Slateport, in an effort to grind a couple of levels.
- I then fly back to Mossdeep to challenge the gym
- Gym Trainers were easy, as I trained Hyla and Masticar, so I could not overlevel my doubles team for
Important Battle 11: Vs. Gym Leaders Tate & Liza
It was tougher, but because I made it a little tough. I used Melee and Conejito, and set up Toxic on the Lunatone. I then slowly began to chip at the Light Screen + Sunny Day'd Solrock. Fire Blast managed to burn it, and then I managed to KO the Solrock. The Lunatone (now at about 1/2 HP) then went down easily afterwards. Tate & Liza was the first gym I wasn't close to even 50% autopilot, and thought it through since Wattson.
- I exit to serenity. Ahhh.
- "Nope" said a big laser that CAME FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN.
- I get Dive from Steven and go chase it.
- I sweep the 5 grunts in the Seafloor Cavern and solve the puzzles before
Important Battle 12: Vs. Magma Leader Maxie
I OHKOed everything except the Mightyena, that didn't even have Intimidate. Pretty average, but the battle theme was sick.
- He wasn't foiled and did it the thing with the Red Orb anyways.
- Instead of slapping it out of his hand, my player just watches things happen. Groudon leaves.
-
- At least he had emotion (I think).
- Onward to Sootopolis to save the world.
- Not now Jaylon, the sky is melting everyone.
- His level 39 Tentacruel provided more challenge than Maxie.
- Enter Sootopolis
- Cutscene with emotions.
- Enter the Cave Of Origin and JUMP ON THE GROUDON'S BACK. seems right. And speaking of Groudon...
Important Battle 13: Primal Groudon
I used Hyla, and actually almost 2HKOed it, but it lived on a sliver of HP and used Rest of all things. Groudon, this isn't the GSC OU. (He didn't even know Sleep Talk). It fell shortly after.
- Cutscene.
Everybody complains about SM cutscenes and forgot these blockbuster behemoths exist.
- ahem... Onward to wallace.
Important Battle 14: Vs. Gym Leader Wallace
Dude uses a Luvdisc. The battle wasn't that hard, so nothing really major to report. I did toxic stall the Milotic though, so that was a fun thing that happened.

Next, onwards and upwards to the Elite Four, and the Throne of the champion.

RECLAIMING MY GYM
A GROUND TYPE CHALLENGE
on Ruby

EPISODE III: RETURN OF THE MASTER
Spoiler:

I arrive in a little town called Littleroot, in a region called Hoenn. I've never been here before, so I'm anxious to find out what kind of Pokémon linger around here.

Why am I here? I'm here because there are some people causing havoc around the region, calling themselves Team Magma. Apparently, they want to expand the landmass of the region by awakening a legendary Pokémon called Groudon. A rivaling group of people called Team Aqua has asked Professor Birch, a local Pokémon researcher, to find some help. Birch talked to Professor Oak, who reached out to me, the new Champion of the Indigo League and Master of the Ground-type. So basically, I'm a consultant!

Unfortunately, my Pokémon don't fly well, not even on planes, so I had to leave them behind in Pallet Town. Professor Birch didn't have any Ground type Pokémon to offer me, but guaranteed me that I would become very fond of Mudkip, my new partner.

They've given me very little information to go on, and basically I should just go travel around the region to find Team Magma and try to stop them using whatever means necessary...

The first meeting with a member from Team Magma was in the Petalburg Woods. He was up to no good, so Mudkip beat the hell out of him!

In Rustboro City I find that there's Gyms in this region as well, and decide to challenge Roxanne. I have a massive type advantage, and Mudkip evolves in a Marshtomp. Which turns out to be a Ground Pokémon! Marshtomp happy, I happy, everybody happy.

I bump into the same Team Magma Grunt again, who started making trouble in the neighbourhood. I beat him again, and talk to the president of a big local company called the Devon Corporation. He asked me to go to Dewford Town to deliver a letter to his son, and to Slateport City to drop off a parcel to a captain.

In Dewford I deliver the letter and beat the local Gymleader. I then set sail to Slateport, deliver the parcel and fight with Team Magma, who where trying to steal the package. Hmm... there's definitely something fishy going on...

Team Magma fled and I head north to Mauville, where I battle Watson. Of course this isn't a problem for the high-leveled Marshtomp. After the battle, I continue north and find a small donkey-like Pokémon, Numel, and catch it.

The next time I run into Team Magma is in a cave with a waterfall, called the Meteor Falls, but I didn't get to fight them. It looks like they stole some kind of meteorite and ran off when Team Aqua came marching in. I talk briefly with their leader, Archie, who thanks me for helping out, and then go Mt. Chimney to chase after Team Magma. Here I find their leader, a wicked bloke named Maxie who wants to erupt the volcano, and fight him. We win, and Numel evolves in a Camerupt!

Hoenn is saved and I can finally take it easy. I climb down from the volcano and arrive in a small town called Lavaridge, where I beat the fire type Gymleader with ease.

Not far from Lavaridge is a small desert. Since there's no more time pressure, I spend some time here, enjoying myself and catching two new teammembers: Trapinch and Baltoy.

And now I'm stuck. I don't know where to go since I can't Surf yet. So I retrace all my steps and remember a gym in Petalburg City. I go here and indeed, the leader is ready for a battle. It isn't too hard though, and after I win, Marshtomp evolves in a Swampert and Trapinch in a Vibrava!

Now I can finally surf! And with 5 Hoenn Badges in my pocket and Team Magma defeated, nothing can stop me from becoming the Champion in this region too. Right?

“You know,” said Arthur, “it’s at times like this, when I’m trapped in a Vogon airlock with a man from Betelgeuse, and about to die of asphyxiation in deep space, that I really wish I’d listened to what my mother told me when I was young.”
“Why, what did she tell you?”
“I don’t know, I didn’t listen.”

A GROUND TYPE CHALLENGE

EPISODE IV: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RED ORB
Spoiler:

My travels take me to a large building called the Weather Institute. At first I thought my eyes deceived me, but then it became clear: Team Magma Grunts everywhere, taking the scientists hostage! And I thought we defeated them?

Oh well, guess we just have to fight them again. We beat all of the Grunts and an Admin and free the scientists. It seems like Team Magma hasn't given up yet, and are searching for Groudon, the Legendary Ground Pokmon. And where is Team Aqua? Aren't they supposed to help out?

We reach the next town and the next gym. Winona is quite tough, but we manage, and Baltoy evolves in a Claydol!
When we get close to Lilycove City, I spy a few Magma Grunt, heading for Mt. Pyre. Naturally, I follow them. On top of the mountain we find Maxie, stealing on of the two Orbs that are being kept and protected here. Maxie and his Grunts flee before I can stop them, and the elder guardians hand me the other Orb, for the Orbs should never be apart...

And so I start searching for Maxie once more. I find their hideout in Lilycove, but he's not there. A Grunt however accidentally tells me he's off stealing a submarine in Slateport!

I fly to Slateport, but I'm too late. The submarine is gone. Quickly we fly back to the hideout, beat up all the Grunts I find in my path, but again, Maxie slips through my fingers.

I set chase on the big ocean, hoping to find a sign of Team Magma, but I will never find them without some kind of diving equipment. I do however stumble upon an inhabited island. Here's a space station and, even better, a Gym! The owners of the Gym, Liza and Tate, challenge me for a double battle. They didn't stand a change... But, now I can use a skill called Dive, and we can chase after Team Magma again.

I find the submarine and Team Magma in an underwater grotto, and am just in time to find Maxie awakening Groudon with the Orb he stole. Or did it react to mine? Anyway, Groudon suddenly disappeared and (finally!) Team Aqua shows up to tell Maxie he's a bad boy and the world is in danger. Of course it's up to me to save it.

It takes me ages, but I find a hidden village surrounded by mountains in the middle of the ocean, called Sootopolis. Here's a cave, called the Cave of Origins, where I find Groudon. I beat him, and the region is safe!

There's a gym in Sootopolis, the last test before the E4. It's leader, Wallace, uses Water-types. It was a long and hard battle, but we did manage to win and earned our free passage to Victory Road and the Hoenn League!

At the Victory Road we did a lot of training. To become the champion of this region, we need to be stronger than ever. We don't know much about our opponents, so we just have to rely on our own strength. And as a result of our hard training, Vibrava evolved in a Flygon.

The battles against the Elite Four were fierce. Each fight asked the most out of me and my Pokmon, but we did win. And the final battle, against Champion Steven, was one I'll never forget. Strength, strategy, healing, all was necessary to win. And we did! We are officially the new Champions of Hoenn!!
