Here are some dragon pics..

I also wrote an essay on dragons...i'll post it here

The Lizard Files
Dragons & Reptiles: Do dragons really exist?
Do dragons really exist? Do creatures weve thought never existed for so long really walk the earth? Maybe....

Characteristics of dragons
-Life cycle
Dragons are reptiles (cold-blooded)
Dragons are long-lived
Dragons lay eggs
-Behavior
Classical dragons are known for eating people
Chinese dragons are kind, benevolent and wise
All dragons (excluding Chinese) hoard
Sometimes dragons are much like cats (or anacondas), eating a large meal once in a while and then sleeping it off
Sometimes dragons are very active and go outside daily
-Appearance
Dragons [dont always] have wings
Dragons can be spiny
Most dragons are at least three feet long
All dragons have teeth and claws (excluding Ampitheres)
Dragons are scaly

So what dragons are there?

The Classical dragon
The Good-luck Chinese dragon
The wormlike dragon
Ampitheres
The wingless dragon

The Classical Dragon
This is the type of dragon that most everyone knows. Flying through the skies
With fiery breath, this maiden-eater and knight-killer is truly the dragon of most
imaginations and stories. Classical dragons have a taste for riddles.

The Chinese Dragon
This dragon is said in China to bring good luck, prosperity and happiness. There
were river dragons, dragons in the air, earth dragons and dragons that made the
rain. These long, snaky dragons were usually blue, red, green or yellow depending
on what type of dragon they were. They had manes and special pearls they carried with them. To see one of these dragons was a sign of many good things to come.

Wormlike Dragons
These snaky little dragons, called knuckers or worms, lived in Europe and usually had their lair in wells or knucker holes. They preferred marshy, swampy places, bogs and other damp and gloomy areas. Sometimes they had tiny wings.

Ampitheres
These beautiful winged serpents are usually a stunning blue, blue-green, azure or dark green. They had long, beautiful feathers on the tip of their tails and large, feathered wings which were so beautiful they almost glittered. Ampitheres look a lot like the winged serpent form of the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl.

Wingless Dragons
Wingless dragons are a lot like the classic dragon, except they are, of course, wingless and sometimes breathe fire. Sometimes they have a poisonous bite or breath. Like the classical dragon, most enjoy riddle games.

Weve just seen the dragons of myth and legends, the dragons that terrorize farms and bring rain. Now lets check out the dragons of reality. Do YOU think dragons are real?

And here we have the real dragons:

That most famous of all lizards, the Komodo Dragon
The Paradise Flying Dragon (preyed upon by the Paradise Tree Snake)
The Paradise Tree Snake, otherwise known as the flying snake
The fearsome-looking but quite harmless (to humans) Frilled Lizard
Another scary-looking lizard, the Bearded Dragon

The Bearded Dragon & Frilled Lizard
These two lizards specialize in being very scary. The bearded Dragon is not a monitor lizard, but has a frightening beard of spikes, which it can puff out to startle things. Likewise, the Frilled Lizard of Australia has a large collar of skin which it puffs out to scare its prey.

The Paradise Flying Dragon
Its very easy to see where this little lizard got its name. Like the flying squirrel, this lizard has flaps of skin that it spreads in order to glide from tree to tree. The Paradise Flying Dragon does not actually fly. It glides.

The Paradise Tree Snake
Had this critter evolved with wings, it would be a dragon called an Ampithere. This snake flattens its body to glide from tree to tree, much like the Paradise Flying Dragon mentioned earlier.

The Komodo Dragon
The name says it all. This huge lizard can grow up to ten feet or more. Its huge claws are perfect for ripping and tearing. Every one of its little teeth is like a razor blade. Like sharks, Komodos grow new teeth all their life, new ones replacing the old ones when an old one is broken or rots. These huge, muscular lizards can run very quickly if they are in the mood. Every year at least five people are attacked by dragons. Most survive without a scrape by either scaring the dragons away somehow or managing to escape, but some are eaten. The Komodo has a poisonous bite, too. Its mouth harbors four kinds of rare and deadly bacteria.

Skinks
Skinks are long, very snaky lizards with short, stumpy legs.

Turtles
Turtles are very long-lived. They are slow-moving and some live partly in the water. Turtles have heavy, cumbersome shells on their backs (also do not have wings) and so cannot fly.

The proof is in the [prehistoric] pudding
Maybe there are no modern-day dragons.........but were there dragons 65 million years ago? Think of the Pterodactyls, soaring through prehistoric skies. They were reptiles. They flew. Some were predators. Or have dragons existed through the ages, starting with the Pterodactyls and going up to the monitor lizards?

What do all dragons have in common? They are all reptiles.

And so, in conclusion..I will answer the question than humankind has asked ever since the idea was invented:
Do dragons exist?

And the answer is.
Maybe. Not just in our imaginations, but in the Pterodactyls soaring through the skies, in the flying tree snakes and in the Komodo Dragons. Dragons can exist today, in the way some reptiles have evolved. And in our imaginations.

Do dragons really exist?

You decide.

Great pic Brookes! ^_^ *saves it*
Hmph, I've played an' finished Warcraft III an' its expansion an' I must say my fav units are tha Red Drakes an' Red Dragons, too bad they ain't available for any race. >_<
Well I like their Roar an' their green eyes go very well with their red scales. ^_^
Also, as a Dagon name, I liked tha name Searinox, it was a Black Dragon in tha human campaign, tch, st00pid humans don't care about tha Dragon's feelings, they have a heart too ya know, but all those murderous humans wanted was heart as an item an' so I obviously skipped that side quest. ^^;;
Yeh, Frost Wyrms are my favourite untis from campaigns, second are tha Wyverns, which also look like Dragons but don't have front limbs.
Oh, an' jhgghyu, that was a very nice summary of Dragons ya made in that essay, tch, I knew some o' that stuff but thanx for the extra details -- ya can never know too much about Dragons. ^^
An' yesh, tha Komodo Dragon is my 3rd fav creature in tha world(1st=Western Dragon, 2nd=Eastern Dragon). ^_^
Yay! They've made Frost Wyrm damage Magical in Frozen Throne. ^_^
*sigh* Chimaeras an' all, W3 offers such a great variety of Dragons... OH! I almost forgot! I saw this Warcraft mini-novel "Day Of The Dragon", I caught a glimpse of it at some random store an year ago, it was one of tha beacons that led me ta start a life here at PC! ^_^ ...err, it's a long story. ^^;;
