The Bug-Catching Contest is a competition held every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday in Johto's National Park. The Bug-Catching Contest was introduced in Gold, Silver, and Crystal. To compete, Trainers must catch the single best Bug-type Pokémon they can find. To do this, Trainers are given twenty Park Balls, and they are only allowed to use a single Pokémon from their party. The rest of a Trainer's Pokémon and all of their items remain with the contest officials until the competition is over.

What did you think of this contest? Which Pokémon did you end up catching? Did you ever get first place?

I loved the Bug Catching Contest, it was such a cool idea and was fun to do as a little mini-game every now and again. I remember once I played it loads cause I really wanted a Scyther, it took a while, but I eventually managed to catch one :)

I loved the Bug Catching Contest, I used to do it whenever I could. I remember often feeling confused when someone won with a Pokemon like Kakuna or Venonat when I had caught a Pinsir, but all the same I did win quite frequently. It was pretty stressful being only able to use one Pokemon but I managed, and catching those Scyther was sweet when it finally happened.
