I don't get why customers complain to me about prices, and ask why things are priced the way they are. It doesn't even matter to some people that we match prices with our competitors- it's my personal fault that our product is more expensive.

Also, it's not my fault that we don't have a certain product in stock. If our supplier doesn't send us enough of a sale item or something, I can't just make more magically appear like you expect me to.

Ah, retail. As fun as chit-chatting with customers and getting a smile on their faces, it was also a disaster for my fate in humanity. It wasn't as bad as waiting tables though.

The store I worked at is known for it's large discounts so the people shopping at ours were always hunting everything that they could get for less. You always had people who didn't read the conditions of the discount properly and then blamed you for information not being given to them on a silver platter - upon which they would also force you to give them the discount anyways. That left me frustrated too often.

When I worked at GameStop, this lady came in the store getting mad at me bc she didn't take the five seconds it takes to Google basic info on a PS4 before making such a major purchase the night before (which I wasn't even present for so WHY would you come at me as if I know). Otherwise, she could have spared herself coming in and whining about how "you mean people have to buy HD tvs just to play on a PS4?" Well. No. They don't. Because in 2016, people were buying PS4's to play on the HD tvs they've already had since 2010.

A few years ago I was working in a theme park's merchandise shop and a customer came in asking when one of the Roller Coasters would be working again.

I said I did not know and the customer said I should go and fix it. I politely informed them I was not a mechanic.

I don't work in retail, but food service is close enough, right?

I had a lady complain to me for ten minutes how we didn't have the salad dressing she wanted, and then she put in a formal complaint with my manager about how she was too rich to put up with this.

You spend 4 hours in your department, alone, trying to clean and tidy up the mess the shift before didn't get done while also working the cash register, and when you finally finish cleaning someone comes in and unfolds like 50 things, spills coffee on the floor, and tries to open up the packaging on stuff without buying it first. Then they get mad that you're not at the register to help them because you're cleaning up the mess they made.

From what I hear it's worse.

Some customer argued with me that she didn't have to buy the three items listed for the sale (but two, get a special discount on one). I had to keep pointing out where the parenthesis were in the sentence describing the sale, and that "AND" meant that yes, she had to buy tartar sauce "AND" mayonnaise to get a discount on fish.

Of course, with my job in the store, I also get to deal with my coworkers. They don't understand that if they don't punch in for their shifts, they don't get paid correctly. And somehow, that is also my fault.
