....but as for the actual thread topic, I wouldn't really say I'm the type to explicitly make and use the word "promise". It's like what Meyneth said in that it can be hard to keep a promise long-term. We're not clairvoyants, how can we know we'll
always be able to keep it?
So then you try and be clever when you use the term "promise". Use it when there is a finite goal in sight.
Don't do: "I promise we will be friends forever <3"
Do: "I promise I will return the favour"
At least in the latter case, you may actually return that favour. In the former case, you are bound until your dying breath.
I'm a bit like this when making promises but I have yolo'd on some occasions on promises which I believe have worked out haha. I was in an online YGO tournament and I promised I would avenge my friend and I did. Even though there was no guarantee I would defeat that opponent >___>
