I was toying around on my FR verion trying to get HP [Flying for Gyarados, so I ught it HP, and I belive it is HP grass or Electric, it did very little to a Parasect, and Magnaton, normal damage to a Machoke, and to a Primape, and a super effective hit to a Psyduck, and Poliwag. Was I correct in asuming it was HP grass or Electric. Could they work on Gayra as a sub to Hp Flying?

I only lhave trould understanding IV's and how to calculate them ingame, and how they effect HP's type, if anyone could explain it too me it would be a big help. I'm so used to NB, it's not even funny. Thanks in advanced.

The odds of getting an HP:Flying, or any specific HP are 1 in 16. The odds of getting one better that the Swift equivalent (AA, Shock Wave, Magical Leaf, ...) are 1 in 64, since HP damage ranges from base 30 to 70. To calculate your HP's type, you take the 'ones bits' from four of your IVs (I think they're the two Defenses and two Attacks), and use them to make a new 4-bit number. That nunber corresponds to a type. (You can have an easier time using a calculator) You can solve for your IVs if you have a bunch of Rare Candies. I use the calculator at Pokéfor, though some people say they've been able to use netbattle to do it.

That helps a lot but how do you find out which IVs you have, considering that NB has them all at max IVs?:D

One is 16 for the certain HP... Then another 1/31 chance for the swift equivalent... but not the type you want.... so

1/16 * 1/31 = 1/496 chance to get the type AND a power over 60.

In Ruby/Sapphire, there's an easy way to figure out your Pokemon's HP type: battle a Keckleon. It will change to the Hidden Power's type when you hit it with HP. For HP's power, you'll have to calculate IVs though.

It does change type when you hit it with hidden power. I do it myself all the time. Just remember to soft reset so you can save that Kecleon for future hidden power bludgeons.
