I know this is wishful thinking, but I'd like to see the Battle Tree be revamped to be more like the World Tournament from B2/W2. We already have Red/Blue and some returning trainers... but what I'd like to see is all the past Gym Leaders and Elite Four from Gens I - VI (including Giovanni) and maybe even the evil team Leaders make an appearance in the Battle Tree, kinda similar to the World Tournament.

Does anyone think this is a possible, or just a pipe dream?
Honestly, I think this is a pipe dream - at least this gen - but it's something I would absolutely love to see and it's just about the only circumstance in which I would consider the Battle Tree as a worthwhile feature and genuine postgame draw. That said...for the 20th anniversary, I would have thought this would have made sense, and if USUM isn't tied to Kanto fan pandering the way SM was...who knows? It could be a thing.

If only something like that could happen. But I'd still like to see it become a full-fledged idea.

I'm on the side that doubts it as well, considering that the Battle Frontier was all but confirmed dead by Masuda. That's what happens when the support was too small for it.

A World Tournament style Battle facility would be nice but is highly unlikely in USUM. I can see a few extra trainers like Lance and N being added.

The World Tournament is likely going to stay exclusive to the Unova sequels.

But this is PWT not Battle Frontier; they're completely different.

Where do you get the "small support" from? And why does BF's lack of support relate to PWT? It seems like the game makers are leaning towards just battle tower/tree type facilities, which is exactly what the PWT was. Plus the title didn't say "add the PWT facility" it said "making the Battle Tree more like PWT" which is likely just adding famous characters; this is entirely possible!

The reason why Battle Frontier has been brought up more is because PWT is likely going to stay a B2/W2 thing.

I remember Masuda releasing a statement on why the Battle Frontier hasn't been a thing in most recent games, and that was because it didn't have a large enough following by the target audience due to being viewed as too difficult.

But why? People keep saying these things for absolutely no reason. Its not like adding more famous characters is making it THE PWT, it is making the tree LIKE the PWT. The name is just coincidentally used.

If I said "Do you think they will add more characters to the Battle Tree?" I don't think people would have reflex kicked "no pwt is exclusive (even though I don't work for Nintendo so i don't know for sure)" immediately.

I think/hope we can expect something entirely new. The Battle Frontier was a third game thing, and the PWT was a B2W2 thing. As I've said, the only reason we didn't get something better in Kalos was because Kalos only got one game, and the base games are always lacking when it comes to these kinds of facilities. I doubt it'll be the Battle Frontier/PWT overhaul that some people are hoping for, but I also doubt that it'll be the same thing just with a few more meaningless cameos.

...if they do nothing at all, that would be unbelievably scummy, though.

Kalos had two games - X and Y. If you meant one pair of games with no follow up then yes.

As for battle facility, i hope they tone down the difficulty of it. They made the battle tree impossible in SM.

I haven't heard of any reasons concerning popularity/demand as to why BF didn't appear in ORAS; only thing I heard about was there being too little time to build and implement it.

I will still hope for a BF-esque extension of the Battle Tree, meaning that there are different kinds of battle styles or tournament forms. Of course, that's merely a dream. It's more likely that more special trainers will be added.

I personally feel like I missed the World Tournament Aspect of B2W2 because I mostly stopped playing after the E4.

I wish I had the full experience, and hope that it returns in a better way than the lackluster Battle Tree.

Thinking on it, I wonder what sort of priority enhanced battle facilities would take, actually - given that GF are pushing story-driven titles now, and opted for the Delta Episode rather than the Battle Frontier (because I think it safe to say we probably would have had it had we not had extra story content) with SM being as focused on that as they were, I wonder if USUM will forgo a battle facility - or at least an expanded one - in favour of something like the Delta Episode.

Just speculation, but there would have been nothing preventing them from putting the Battle Frontier in ORAS, and it would have been a very popular move by the sound of it. I wonder if their priorities have changed. If they haven't then I fully expect better facilities this time around, but if they have I think it's going to disappoint a lot of people.

Interesting point you brought up. Ever since B/W, the story of Pokemon games has been taking more darker and serious tones, and maybe the positive reception of B/W's main story may have inspired Game Freak to focus more on serious stories, which in the case of OR/AS was a major postgame feature and likely could have been prioritized over the Battle Frontier.

I can see where the developers are coming from with the Battle Frontier. Whilst breeding high IV Pokemon is now much easier than it was back then most people won't have time to go through five facilities especially when 1 is down to luck (Pike) and one is a odd idea where Pokemon battle on nature which seems entirely luck based.

Whilst the PWT had an element of luck too on you couldn't possibly have a team to face every single world tournament trainer it was fun and the only facility I have completed in its entirety.

I'm with Gardy. The Hoenn Battle Frontier had two facilities based entirely on luck, which means you really have no control over what happens and that can easily put a huge amount of frustration.

Even the PWT has elements of a luck-based mission in that it's very difficult to have enough coverage for all the opponents out of a team of only three Pokemon. Battle Tree is already near-impossible without the right stuff, and adding sheer luck to that can make it even more frustrating to the point no one wants a battle facility anymore.

The thing about battle facilities as postgame - because I think it really is one or the other - is that they're not universally appealing. More people are likely to bother with actual postgame content like the Delta Episode (which you were also thrown immediately into upon the credits, which was a good way of drawing attention to it) than with optional battle facilities that are, as has been stated, geared more towards competitive players. They're not inclusive in quite the same fashion, which is completely out of keeping with GF's general mindset of making Pokemon something for everyone.

Just want to point out the the Pike and Palace were part of a seven facility Battle Frontier (not five which was what the Gen IV one had).

Lol, and yet Gen VI and VII's post game leaves the player with nothing to do but wi-fi battles and a remodeled Battle Tower-like facility, leaving them feeling like battle simulators...

That's always the way with first instalments in a new gen though, no? That's nothing new.
Right, true. But it feels stronger today than before... Perhaps it's because I'm not into competitive as much anymore :/.

I hope for something we can do 6v6 battles with. Not sure why it hasn't been implemented. I know that VGC is essentially doubles due to time potentially being a factor, so maybe that was a concern, but people spend hours and 1,000s of battles in these facilities anyway, and if you don't want it, I'm sure they'd have 3v3 still.

Or it could be due more to the way the more recent battle facilities have been structured - SM's Battle Tree is very clearly designed with competitive Pokemon in mind, whilst the PWT and Battle Maison kinda weren't, at least not from my perspective.

What I find interesting is that a few people who aren't interested in competetive Pokemon are clamouring for features designed to incorporate that in-game, at least as much as possible with such limited AI. xD

If they would do something like that I at least hope they change when you fight a "super important battle". Like how you fight the Battle Legend at 50 in S/M but if i'ts 6v6 it becomes 25 or something to make things shorter.

And hopefully they'd add that to Battle Spot as well...
